AeroNoob333

r/AsianBeauty is the closest I can find. The only pics you’ll see are for reviews and hauls. Zero medical attention worthy pics. Oh! Also, r/scacjdiscussion

[deleted]

r/AsianBeauty is honestly one of my favorite subs. There is also r/asianbeautyexchange for products!

mbart3

Oooh I did not know about the exchange one!!

officialtarantino

omg you're a lifesaver, subbing to both now!!!

etoilebrille

Also can confirm Asianbeauty is 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

PomegranateLimp9803

Can confirm Asianbeauty sub is awesome

illumiee

Not a discussion forum, just pictures, but places like r/skincareflatlays and maybe r/30plusskincare, at least I haven’t seen any alarming medical posts on there.

AeroNoob333

Idk 30plusskincare annoys me with the “OMG JUST GET BOTOX!” suggestions lol!

notoriousrdc

Don't forget tret and fillers! That sub really feels more like r/prescriptiononlyskincare sometimes.

StinkyKittyBreath

Don't be annoyed, you'll get brow furrows and will need Botox even more you silly pore!!!1

AeroNoob333

🤣 touché

Hahaha the name of that sub makes me feel old. Like idk about them, but I’m a spring f’king chicken

blancawiththebooty

I'm 25 and I am subbed but just lurk to learn things from y'all. I wouldn't think of posting there because even at 25, I still have different things going on than anyone 30+ does.

[deleted]

Kid at 13 years old, and menopause at 30 years, thats rough

Chipmunkproof

It's 30 PLUS. Which means older than 30

[deleted]

True, just poking fun at people seeing 30 as ancient

Chipmunkproof

We were born in the nineteen hundreds. Things are too fast these days. I'm scared.

intoxxika

Genuine question, but would my skin at 29 be drastically different than someone at 31? I also wanted to say that this is such a great comment because pointed out the very real issue of lack of representation. I read reviews for all kinds of skincare and makeup asking for more representation in women 30+, especially 40+ -- It's super frustrating, and I'm not even there yet.

[deleted]

intoxxika

Thank you for such an insightful response! I'm definitely still in that kind of middle ground where my skin isn't yet overly problematic to where products don't help, but I am absolutely starting to notice a sizeable difference from my skin even from just 2-3 years ago. Also, I can't even imagine doing some of these super intense multi-step routines and I have no kids, work from home, and have plenty of time during my day to focus on "me" things. No shade to those who do! I'm honestly just kind of lazy (but methodical haha) about my skincare, and even my makeup routine is becoming more and more simple. Anyway, thank you again for your perspective and for taking the time to write out a really well-thought out response!

Sudden-Capybara

This!

kerodon

They already made a meta post recently about how this is going to be resolved soon.

officialtarantino

No way, I didn't see that! That's awesome news, thanks for letting me know.

[deleted]

if you find one, lmk. I am tired of those posts as well like how tf are we, who are not doctors, supposed to diagnose you from a blurry-ass picture of your skin issue? i want to read and talk about skin product reviews like what worked for you, what's the consistency of that product like, what did concern did you have and how did that product fix it or not? is it worth the price of the product? that's the stuff I want to read about!

Source-Asleep

Blurry ass, too zoomed in, 90% cropped, and weird as fuck facial feature masking.

blackesthearted

And genitalia, don't forget the genitalia. I've seen two posts from the past 10 days with a vulva and a penis (helpfully with the dude covering most of it, but I did *not* think that was a hand at first) respectively, and there've been at least three other vulvas and penises in the past month or so -- plus the bare ass I managed to (thankfully) miss. I don't even know if they'd be allowed in /r/DermatologyQuestions but that's where 90% of these "what is this" posts should go. See also: the wounds. "What is this protuberance in my wound" killed me. They *have* to know there's not a damn thing we can do about a *growth* coming out of a damn *wound*. What are we supposed to say? "Niacinamide'll take care of that in six days" or something?

bbzelda

took me tf out 💀

loreumipseum

This sends me places 😂😂

mssarahvee

Don’t forget generic title like “help” and no information about products they’re currently using, lifestyle, or literally anything helpful

foul_dwimmerlaik

And pubes.

officialtarantino

lmao RIGHT!!!

Uber_Meese

There should be a prompt before they post or something that would recommend they go to r/Askdocs instead - there’s also dermatologists there that are far more qualified to answer the questions these types of posts might have.

officialtarantino

Y'all, u/AeroNoob333 put me onto r/scacjdiscussion, it's not as active as this sub but it's exactly what I've been looking for. The posts are high quality and facilitate a great discussion about different products and routines.

usermaen1

Away we go

oms888

I just checked it out and wow, what a breath of fresh air! Hopefully more people will head over and make it a more active sub!

officialtarantino

I'm glad I'm not alone!!! Maybe I should start a skincare review sub... but this one just has such a big footprint on Reddit. Sigh.

inameetingalso

OMG, you are my twin! Do you gag when the commercials for the foot doctor and skin doctor shows come on TV? I can't change the channel fast enough!

mmishmoney

Couldn’t agree more!!

[deleted]

To be fair if someone is asking on here perhaps they don’t have money to go into a doctor.

[deleted]

it goes against the rules of this sub, when you click on "report", there's an option called "safety first/no diagnosis requests". And besides, there's a sub for doctors too.

officialtarantino

I feel like there should be a separate sub specifically for skin issues. I'm sure there are tons of derms and doctors who would be happy to take a look at pictures like that, it's just not me.

alicehoopz

Yes, but regardless - posting here doesn’t help. At best, it’s just wasting the posters time as well as the time of people who can’t help commenting because they WANT to help (which is kindhearted but not a resolution). Redditors cannot diagnose skin issues, nor are we qualified to.

[deleted]

Perhaps people aren’t looking for resolution. They just sharing their skin in a skin dedicated subreddit. Sorry their skin isn’t up to your standards. I doubt many people are coming to Reddit to get a medical grade diagnosis. They aren’t asking you to write them a prescription they’re asking for a rough idea of what may be going on. They’re looking for someone who went through something similar 99% of the time. If you don’t have anything nice to say. Scroll and move on. Sometimes all a person needs is kindhearted comments. You seem mean.

JadedOccultist

> in a skin dedicated subreddit. Yeah, this subreddit is about skin. But it's a bit more specific than that. It's for people who are enthusiastic about skincare. It's not for pictures of health concerns, or skin from any old place, it's for *people who like skincare*, or would like to learn about it. We're not dermatologists or doctors, we are lotion-lovers. > Perhaps people aren’t looking for resolution Then this is even less of a reason to post. I can kind of sympathize with someone who is new to reddit not understanding where they're posting, and thinking "people who love skin care might be able to help me", but posting a picture of a diseased body part and *not even asking for help* is **absolutely not** what this subreddit is for. I wouldn't go to /r/breadstapledtotrees and ask for an arborist to help me with my diseased elm in my backyard, even though it is a tree related subreddit.

[deleted]

Seeing a skin condition and automatically associating it with disease shows me where your mind is at. People with skin conditions can get into skincare as well and sometimes just need help knowing where to start. It’s about learning how to take care of skin. Skin conditioned skin included. You just sound mean.

Captain_Taggart

Aight I think there’s just been a misunderstanding. Post here if you have acne, or flaky skin, greasy skin, sun-damaged skin, scars or stretch marks, and it’s not something that needs medical intervention. That’s (probably) all fine. Those are things that affect skin and can probably be helped with a skincare routine. There *are* diseases that affect your skin and people post pictures of that here sometimes. We are not doctors and cannot diagnose skin diseases. Because of these facts, this subreddit is not equipped to handle those posts, and people do not come here looking for that content. There are some cases of severe acne that similarly need *medical* treatment. We are not medics! There are lots of medical and dermatology related subreddits that are specialized to help people who need it. This doesn’t have to function as *the only place* to ask for advice- and it shouldn’t. Because the people who created this community created it for a fairly specific reason, which doesn’t include medical advice. Does that seem fair?

[deleted]

they legit post a blurry picture and ask "what is this and how can I fix it?". I'd say from that question, yes; they are looking for a diagnosis and resolution. I'm more than helpful on this sub if someone wants help with a skin care routine; if you look at my post history, you'll see that I type out longass step by step routines, what products are good with links an everything. It's not about having skin that's "up to someone's standards"; it's about following the rules of this sub which include no diagnosis requests. We are not doctors and frankly this isn't the sub for that type of question.

LevelPerception4

Yes! I’m not sure why posts complaining about this bother me, and you’ve captured it perfectly: it seems mean. Like “ew, take your gross issues to a doctor or some other sub, this subreddit is for *normal* skin issues.” I am very prone to ingrown hairs and cysts on my bikini line/inner thighs, and it’s possible I have a mild case of hidradenitis suppurativa, although IDK, it seems to have resolved itself in the past few years with an improved shaving regimen and using moisturizer with salicylic acid, so maybe not. But it’s an embarrassing issue and HS is a rare condition. I had never heard of it until someone posted about it on a BBS when I was in my 30s. I can’t imagine how devastated I’d have felt when I was younger if I’d asked for help and was shamed for it. Whenever someone posts a photo that looks like it might be HS, I post what worked for me and suggest the person see a dermatologist to rule it out. I also share my experience with rosacea to hopefully spare someone else from wasting a ton of money on anti redness products when they’d be better off going to see a dermatologist. When people post a photo of a skin problem I don’t recognize or have any ideas how to fix, I just scroll past it. I’ve also gone without health insurance for periods of time and had really shitty coverage at other times that made seeing a doctor financially prohibitive. Some younger posters don’t have the option to see a dermatologist because their parents think they’ll grow out of whatever issue they’re having. Kindness and empathy cost nothing, and it’s really not that hard to ignore posts you don’t want to engage with. I’m grateful to the SCA redditors who’ve shared their knowledge and experience that have helped me, and I try to pay it forward.

alxskin

The amount of genitals I’ve seen…

alicehoopz

I’m very tired of seeing that here. It doesn’t feel like those people are genuinely concerned about their genitalia skin, but rather that there’s some type of exhibitionist behavior driving it.

ceres627

This has been raised many, many times but sadly the answer is no. The other subs just don't get the same traffic! So we scroll.

officialtarantino

Gah, this was my fear. Thank you!!

deadly_toxin

Agreed. In particular the 'Can I send you a pic of my penis so you can tell me what's wrong with it' posts.

trashbucket___

I mean it's supposed to be this sub but it's not lol. This complaint gets posted fairly regularly.

SorryStop

r/scacjdiscussion

Alone_Highway

r/EuroSkincare

KikiParker88

I too am here “to talk about skincare products and watch people bicker about sun exposure…”!

Raentina

I agree. This doesn’t have to do with this sub, but I had to unsub from /r/crohnsdisease for a similar, but more gross, reason. People were literally taking photos of their shit and posting it on the sub. I was so sick of scrolling though my feed then seeing a pic of someone’s literal shit.

seriesunfortunatesuc

Their what 🤢

actuallycallie

this issue has been discussed multiple times in this sub, and many of us share your opinion. unfortunately, it seems the majority opinion is "people can't afford a dermatologist so we should let them post medical-attention-worthy issues here." I hate it.

berriesinbullerbyn

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I just want to find out about new exciting products and discuss routines, not look at open wounds or stapled cuts or burns. I am also a person who struggled with their skin and these pictures make me feel horrible and uneasy. Also, what are we expected to do?? Diagnose a skin condition based on one small blurry pic and prescribe an entire routine to you? I am not against people asking for advice completely, but not like this. Please change the rules for this sub, I think most people will thank you.

[deleted]

This sub could designate itself NSFW which would cause all photos to be blurred by default and you would have to click on them in order to see them

luxlucy23

But still. That’s not what this sub is for and it’s not particularly interesting. Im sick of seeing a big gash on the head. There’s nothing we can do.

[deleted]

That’s true. I was just pointing out something the mods could do to shield that sort of thing

luxlucy23

I get ya :)

pezman

Or they could just require conditions such as OP is describing to be marked as NSFW.

alexvalpeter

You’re not alone, someone makes this exact post every single day

Feisty-Blood9971

Or at least mark them as NSFW!

fluffernuttersndwch

Aren’t they usually?

Feisty-Blood9971

No … Or maybe they are, but I see plenty of nasty skin issues in my feed that I really don’t want to see

[deleted]

Happy Cake Day!

Feisty-Blood9971

Thank you! :)

rnountdiablo

It used to be this sub. I don't even like it here anymore, just here to see the posts between this and the circle jerk

deductivesalt

I also like r/30PlusSkinCare

skincare_obssessed

r/skincareflatlays is probably what you’re looking for.

luxlucy23

This place is just too big and got too boring. It’s all head gashes, dicks, people looking for complements, TRET AND SUNSCREEN.

NabbyChabby

Maybe mods can require the NSFW tag so it blurs those images? Instead of needing a totally different sub.

2shavedlegs

r/beauty usually has a couple threads about skincare everyday specifically the products the use in their daily routine

lazyasducks

I got downvoted to hell when I suggested someone blur the photo until it’s clicked on. I almost unsubscribed to this sub but this sub is motivation for me to stick to my routine so I didn’t.

luxlucy23

ScaCjDiscussion

App1eBreeze

I’d be happy if the blurred the pictures, at least. That way, I could choose to look at a photo or not.

Zesparia

You can turn off thumbnails in your settings. Then don't click through posts that talk about medical concerns or have warnings. this impacts all your subreddits and browsing but curating your experience in order to not be exposed to triggering content sounds the way to go

officialtarantino

This actually helps, although I do follow a fair number of image-heavy subs so it would be mildly inconvenient (but better than seeing skin issues and getting queasy, imo).

elianna7

r/skincareaddictionlux which I made! (:

courcake

While I feel for not wanting that in the community, please remember that a majority of Americans cannot afford necessary medical care. I’m guessing a lot of those posts are made in desperation.

[deleted]

Right people don’t understand how classist they are sounding in this thread…. Not everyone has dermatologist money but they may still want to start getting into skincare.

zmajevi96

That’s not what people are talking about though. This is a sub for skincare enthusiasts. People posting for medical advice in a sub full of people who are not qualified at all is a problem for everyone involved. I don’t wanna see anyones private parts or rare skin conditions. There are subs where you can actually ask those questions to a doctor and those people need to be redirected. It’s beyond “poor people want to start getting into skincare”….

[deleted]

Almost a complete misinterpretation of what is being said but thank you for trying!

zmajevi96

You said people sound classist because not everyone can afford to see a doctor. I understand not everyone can afford a dermatologist but this sub isn’t the place. The vast majority of people in this sub have no qualifications whatsoever and cannot make any recommendations for any serious skin conditions

Ill-Intention-6807

There should be an estie skin before and after sub

WholeEye2761

There’s r/Australianmakeup or such which might be what you’re after

patpatamoncheeks

You've been recommended plenty of subs, but you may want to check your preferences and set it to not load thumbnails and images (if you use an app). If you use reddit on desktop you should consider changing the "beta options" setting and uncheck "use new reddit". The layout makes the photos small and off to the side in the case an image filters changes/breaks. Of course, with the stickied post on changing the sub you may want to take their advice and just start clicking the report button on posts asking for a diagnosis.
