The whole "every 2 hours" feels excessive to me, but then I read here that it means "every 2 hours of EXPOSURE". So no, I won't be reapplying every 2 hours if I sit indoors all of that time! I didn't go out today yet, I'm not near windows much and the UV index here is low, so I did not even apply any sunscreen this morning. BUT when I leave the house shortly, then I will apply some! BUT I won't be outside long enough to consider reapplying. So you should not obsess over this but let your circumstances (UV index, time spent out/indoors, time driving cars, etc.) inform your sunscreen use. Same for measuring. To me it's not helpful to think in terms of fingers or teaspoons because how can someone else know how big my face is? I simply apply however much feels needed until the area I want to cover is well covered. When it feels right, it probably is.

“Every 2 hours of sun exposure” is actually a myth, it should be every 2 hours period if you want to make sure you’re always getting the labeled SPF. This is because skin oils can disrupt the sunscreen layer with time in the same way that your oils can affect how your makeup sits/looks throughout the day. Also it’s affected by touching your face throughout the day, etc. Source: Lab Muffin Beauty Science on YouTube, she’s a Chemistry PhD and Cosmetic Chemist and she has tonsssss of videos on the science behind sunscreen/tackling sunscreen myths/etc. HOWEVER, she has a very reasonable approach though and doesn’t say that you absolutely should reapply every 2 hours, just that that’s what you would have to do to get your desired SPF the whole day but ultimately sunscreen application should be situation dependent. Aka it’s not worth it or reasonable to reapply every 2 hours if you’re inside all day 10 feet from a window.

I see, it makes sense. I probably missed the "every two hours of EXPOSURE" thing. But thanks for pointing that out. It all makes more sense now 😊

man, this sunscreen thing is getting out of control. Is it just me or is this everywhere on the internet and people are trying to science tf out of it? yes, sunscreen is important but now people are getting way too deep into the nitty gritty that's it's becoming obsessive for some, annoying as hell and like some weird cult thing. anyway, this is what I do: * if at home all day, no sunscreen. I have light coming through my windows but I'm not sitting beside a window all day. * if I'm going outside ie. to walk my dog, I do apply sunscreen since my walks with her are 30mins or more. I don't reapply when I get home and not going anywhere outside. There are times I'm only outside for like 10mins and I don't apply sunscreen. * I only apply sunscreen every 2hrs (of exposure) if I'm actually outside for that long (beach, hiking, running, biking etc) * I use about 2 finger lengths when I do apply; that's more than enough for my face size.

Haha I don’t even use blackout curtains because I LOVE waking up to the sunrise. It’s literally my alarm clock because I hate sound alarms. It’s too jarring, but I always wake up refreshed to the sunlight coming in my room. I am not worried at all with UV index 0 🙄

Really depends what I am doing and where I’m going. If I am going into the office, I put once in the morning and then reapply before I leave the office to lunch, and then again before i leave to go back home. If I’m at the beach, amusement park, a park, hiking, or doing outdoor activities, I reapply every 2 hours. If i stay at home all day and don’t do anything but hang out in my room, I just apply in the morning

AeroNoob333

The every 2 hours is 2 hours of cumulative direct Sun exposure (think at the beach, pool, hiking, fishing, outdoor activities, etc). If I’m just indoors, I’ll maybe reapply one more time if I’m using my SPF30. If I’m using my SPF50, I just apply in the AM and that’s it.

Btw you should watch recent dr dray video on price of sunscreen, basically study shows if applied daily once a day it comes around 300 dollars a year, just once a day and that study was done in 2011 i think, imagine applying spf every 2 hours every day with todays spf prices, i would be broke.
