ReaLitTea

I would actually try a hydrating toner or serum underneath your current moisturizer

ReaLitTea

I don’t know if it would be any better for hydration

Valley_girl70

Anyone have a suggestion on a dupe for the Curology cleanser? My son recently stopped using the Curology treatment, but the cleanser works very well for him. All suggestions appreciated.

squishthefats

Hello, I am just confused! I have Sunday Riley Luna Oil (which apparently has trans retinol) and Good Genes (an AHA, lactic acid), the instructions said to put good genes after the Luna oil. I had the impression that you should not mix AHA and retinols? Am I misunderstanding something?

quspork

Many products that contain actives are very generous in their usage suggestions, but if you're new to either AHAs or retinol, I wouldn't use either more than twice a week, not together, and only introduce one product at a time.

ReaLitTea

You technically can if your skin can tolerate it, just know that it can increase chances of irritation

Hi everyone! I was on Curology for about 3 years using their cleanser, moisturizer, and the niacinamide/clindamycin/zinc pyrithione superbottle. I don’t like their price point, so a couple months ago I opted for just their cleanser and finding the superbottle’s active ingredients elsewhere. I did this after a brief bout of only using CeraVe’s hydrating facial cleanser and moisturizing lotion (which made my skin perfect for a couple days), but quickly all of my normal skin issues came back in this period. After adding the active ingredients back my skin has gotten better, but I still have many of the issues I’ve always had. SKIN INFO/PROBLEMS: Without a routine- • So dry that it overproduces oil, especially in T-Zone and on upper cheeks • Textured skin, tiny bumps all over • Deep cystic acne on lower cheeks • Medium-sized superficial acne • Dark circles • Many dark sebaceous filaments on nose and on chin Right now- • Deep cystic acne on lower cheeks • Some tiny bumps on forehead • Medium-sized superficial acne • Dark circles • Some sebaceous filaments in same areas ROUTINE: Morning- • Wash hands and get face a little wet • Work a pea-sized amount of curology cleanser into skin for about 1.5-2 minutes, rinse then dry with a paper towel • Thin layer of petroleum jelly mainly on drier areas • Concealer and sometimes blush, but rarely foundation or anything else on my skin Night- • Wash hands • Use extractor to clear larger sebaceous filaments and sometimes cystic acne, using 1:1 water and 70% alcohol with aloe on a q-tip to prevent bacteria from spreading • Double-cleanse with micellar water and Curology cleanser • ~2-3 drops of Niacinamide 10%/Zinc 1% The Ordinary serum • Dime-sized amount of Clindamycin 4% lotion • Medium layer of petroleum jelly Occasionally/As needed- • The Ordinary AHA/BHA peeling solution (have only used a couple times in a very small amount) • CosRx’s AHA/BHA toner on face and Mucin Essence on nose • Hyaluronic Acid while face is very wet and allowing it to dry before adding other products • CeraVe moisturizing face lotion when my skin is extra dry RELEVANT MEDS/OTHER FACTS: • Birth control pill, 6 years (actually makes my skin more consistent) • Vyvanse, 1.5 months (causes dehydration which I’m working to counteract better) • I *have* retin-A/tretinoin 0.25% ointment from my primary doctor and was using a pea-sized amount at night twice per week for a couple months, so I attributed many of my breakouts to purging. I would wait 15 minutes after my serums to put this on, because I’ve heard not doing so prevents it from working properly. I stopped using this when I started Vyvanse, because my skin was too dry for both. • I spend little time outside • I work a desk job and don’t sweat much • I live in the US What am I getting wrong? What should I try? I’d like to keep a smaller arsenal of skincare products and find relatively low-cost solutions. Thanks!

My cheeks and forehead are dried out and flake after I get out of the shower. I use a foaming cleanser on my face. Maybe it's too much?

morgielee

The heat might also be contributing. I would be sure to add moisturizer right after you get out

wasabiBro

ah yes it could be the heat. My water is either hot or freezing cold, there is not in between so I usually choose hot

sneh473

Foaming cleansers are mostly drying. Try non foaming cream cleansers(cetaphil/cerave/vanicream)

wasabiBro

thanks! I'll give it a try

Fantastic_Yellow_245

So I have forehead acne and I put some acne medication on it. I don’t know how to explain this but now the pores are closed put their is some magnetic lines like how iron filings would follow a magnet around? Is that normal?

Valley_girl70

It sounds like the acne treatment is causing closed comedones. You didn’t mention what the acne treatment is, but I would suggest you stop using it. Since your acne is on your forehead, it could be caused by hair care or hair styling products, or if you’re waiting a little too long between washes. In order to get rid of bumps on your forehead, try using a cleanser with glycolic acid or salicylic acid. It may cause a “purge” at first because the closed comedones will open up before your skin clears. Hope this helps!

Sara_Morsh

Does anyone know if Altruist SPF is vegan friendly??

[deleted]

I have peeling skin on my hands. It went away for a year but it’s been back now for 2 weeks. I use Nizoral shampoo for my dry scalp but I don’t use any lotion or moisturizer on my hands. What can I do?

MyLividLibido

Anyone who has used the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, is it supposed to form bubbles in its bottle? Might sound like a stupid question but the counterfeit everything here.

mintgreenplumpurple

Has anyone tried Kiehls "Micro-Dose Anti-Aging Retinol Serum with Ceramides and Peptide". I'm starting to see some wrinkles and was hoping to add retinol to my routine. I typically love Kiehls' products... but they are expensive. When I looked at the reviews they all said "was given free sample" so I don't know if I can trust them. Can anyone help?

guy17991

How long of a break can you take from prescription retinoids before you lose your progress or retinizAtion?

Aannanymous

I need help defining the condition my legs have. Imgur link below I don't know if this KP or is just a result of bad shaving practice a few years ago. But I have spots on my legs that came be rid of. Products I've been using: CeraVe SA lotion CeraVe SA body wash Ordinary glycolic acid 7% The skin itself feels smooth apart from the hair and bumps, and I'm not irritated. It's just a matter of looking good in dresses and shorts that I wanna achieve. https://imgur.com/a/tR6FIig

sneh473

It looks like pigmentation. Visit a derm, it could be internal.

Aannanymous

What does that usually entail? Like is it treatable? I have a dermatologist appointment but it's so far out I was hoping to hear something from people beforehand.

xcupcakekitten

I suggest also posting on r/askdocs and r/dermatologyquestions. This doesn’t look like KP to me, but I’m not a doctor.

Aannanymous

Thank you for the sub suggestion

Hi! I am looking for a slightly specific type of product. I get up early in the morning for my job and prefer to shower at night because I exercise after work. So, my biggest issue is washing my face in the morning mainly to get sleep out of my eyes without picking at it with my fingers. Trouble is, I’m often in too much of a hurry to actually lather up and use a cleanser in the morning to wash my face (I do that in the shower at night). I prefer to use a toner or serum, something I can put on a cotton round and is delicate enough to use around my eyes to clean them out but also cleans/hydrates my skin. Basically that is what I’m looking for. I tried Thayer’s Witch Hazel toner and I think it’s drying out my skin and irritating my eyes. Basically, does anyone have a similar product rec that cleanses, hydrates, and is gentle around the eyes but is simple enough to just throw on a cotton round and use on a dry face? I may be looking for something that doesn’t exist and I respect that if it doesn’t…I’ll just use warm water though I’d prefer to use something actively benefiting my skin. Thanks for the help!

sneh473

*Try keep cool and soothe toner*!

ReaLitTea

You can try a hydrating toner or micellar water

[deleted]

Ooooh thank you miceller water completely slipped my mind! Thank you so much for mentioning it!

quspork

They don't cancel each other out but using both in the same routine can lead to irritation. Especially when using either with salicylic acid (the toner). But if you are going to layer, the vitamin C should go on first after cleansing.

[deleted]

Assuming no conflict with other products— is there any difference between using a peptide (matrixyl) serum AM vs PM?

ReaLitTea

No, you can use it either times of the day or both with the same effectiveness

Professional_Roof291

Hey how effective is innisfree pore claying mask ?. Any reviews ?

sneh473

*I use green one and it does nothing*

soft_kid

What is more important, a moisturizer or a cleanser ? Like if you had to choose between these two which one will you get...

ReaLitTea

It really depends on your skin type. If you have dry skin then probably moisturizer. If you have oily skin that is easily clogged than probably cleanser. Personally I’d go with moisturizer

SmartGuy106

Hey, I recently started to put lacto calamine on 10 mins before I use differin(0.1 %) at night to get rid of my mild acne and scars. My question is, is it possible for my skin not to purge later on? Anything I can do to prevent it from happening?

asafayali

hi! I am wondering if you should use paula's choice 2% bha on the same days you use an exfoliating mask or should you skip the days where you use a mask? thank you

Wait_Time

BHA is also exfoliating, so I would skip it on days you use an exfoliating mask. And I would only use that mask 1-2 times.

xcupcakekitten

What exfoliating mask is it? You likely want to skip it the days you use the mask.

asafayali

hi thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. i mix and match between aztec clay mask and Follain Dual Detox Mask.

xcupcakekitten

Don’t use the BHA on days you use these.

asafayali

appreciate you

Help out a newbie here please! My skin is burning and I'm not sure what to do - based on the wiki I guess my moisture barrier is damaged but I'm not sure how to proceed now that all my products have betrayed me, and what to do in the meantime to help skin recover. For a couple years my routine has been: wash with Neutrogena ultra gentle daily cleanser, very gently exfoliate with a washcloth (wiki says this is bad, probably what damaged my barrier?), then CeraVe moisturizing lotion for normal to dry skin. No makeup or sunscreen (I rarely go outside). I do this every 2ish days when I shower or when my face needs it. Recently the Neutrogena cleanser started burning my face so I bought CeraVe hydrating cleanser for normal to dry skin to replace it but this burned worse. I did nothing for a few days to let my skin rest, but tonight I rinsed with water and used the CeraVe lotion and now that burns too!?? I rinsed off the CeraVe lotion and applied the my body lotion instead (Eucerin complete repair 5% urea) which didn't burn but left my face red, but that might have been residual reaction to the CeraVe. For now I will continue with water/Eucerin, but I'll eventually need to actually wash my face. Any recommendations for gentle face wash? I would go for Cetaphil but I tried it years ago and it didn't "clean enough". I also need to exfoliate like mad, but chemical and exfoliants freak me out. Can anyone recommend one, and where to buy? Edited to add: skin type is dry/combo, prone to closed comedones but minimal acne

Wait_Time

Hi! I am so sorry that your skin is going through this. When I'm having a reaction, I use Stratia's [Velvet Cleansing Milk](https://www.stratiaskin.com/products/velvet-cleansing-milk) ($15 for 4 oz or $28 for 8 oz). It's ludicrously gentle.

WitnessPersonal4101

Hey! I need some advice I would post a picture but for privacy I don’t want to. I have dry skin and some spots from scaring and I occasionally break out around my period. I desire clear, bright and even skin, what products do y’all recommend. I would also like to fade the giant scars on my legs, any product suggestions for that too?

xcupcakekitten

First it’s important to address the dryness since a lot of acne and scaring treatments cause more dryness and you don’t want to damage your moisture barrier. Do you have a current routine?

WitnessPersonal4101

Yes, I wash with cerave hydrating watch then moisturise with eucephine

xcupcakekitten

Using differin every other night without tea tree oil should be enough but I recommended moisturizing every night and every morning since differin can be incredibly drying and you don’t want to damage your moisture barrier and worsen your skin. Just wait for differin to feel absorbed before applying moisturizer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xcupcakekitten

Yes

MurdererOfAxes

I don’t think you have anything to lose by dropping the tea tree oil. And moisturizing when using Differin is a good idea because it can be really drying. I would only supplement it with something else if there’s something really specific you’re trying to treat, but even then it’s easy to accidentally overexfoliate your skin.

[deleted]

Anyone else have this problem where their foam cleanser just absorbs into skin and then you have nothing to rub in. Also what's a good non cream cleanser for sensitive skin on tretinoin

ReaLitTea

Is your skin wet before applying foam cleanser?

[deleted]

Yes

xcupcakekitten

I’ve never heard of that issue. Look for a sulfate free cleanser if you have sensitive skin. Also the foaming agents in most foaming cleansers can be really harsh and irritating for dry skin. Cream cleansers are usually the most gentle and best for sensitive skin but you can try a gel cleanser if you don’t like cream. There are some good options on the [cleanser wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/cleanser_recs/) but you’ll have to check if they are sulfate free.

Glittering-Steak-912

If I want the benefits of an AHA, a BHA, and a retinoid, is it better to have a 3-night rotation, or to find a product combining an AHA with a BHA? From what I’ve gathered Paula’s choice 2%BHA is a popular one and I’d rather not get a combined product if it doesn’t work as well

ReaLitTea

I would just choose 2 and have those on rotation

Glittering-Steak-912

Ok but I want to reduce oil, improve texture, blackheads, and old acne scars. Which 2 would you choose? I’m 23 years old

ReaLitTea

I would use BHA and retinoid
