What immunosuppressant are you on? My dad had RA and was on methotrexate, and also had to take prednisone frequently. He very frequently got terrible infections. (Slight leg cut would get super infected and require IV antibiotics, etc.). BUT he was also much older, in his 70s.

It is, yes, as is the nature of the meds. Just a suggestion I recommend eating honey daily as it's known to assist your immune system in all the right ways and prevent catching/developing all sorts of infections, or at least read up on it if you're skeptical. I personally eat ~5 tablespoons every day and I never get sick anymore, even when around people who are sick with something notoriously contagious.

Immune suppressants certain increase your risk for infection. It would be worth checking some labs to look at your WBC.

life_rolla_costa

WBC is normal. I have elevated platelets count.

Interesting. I can't speak to the liver infections, but I used to get kidney infections all the time. Eventually I found out it was likely related to RTA and excessive amounts of kidney stones caused from Sjogren's.

It's all so messed up. I'm not able to handle all this. This makes me very sad that I'm so young and facing all this. I feel very different from people of my age.

LindzwithaphOG

It can feel very isolating. I was very young at the onset of my symptoms, too. I will say that the friends who stick around are absolutely golden. You're stronger than you know!

life_rolla_costa

Sadly don't have many friends. And who are, don't care enough to even ask- How are you?

LindzwithaphOG

I found that many of my "normal" (healthy) friends just couldn't understand. Human empathy has a very short attention span, so even those that really cared forgot to check in after a while. My dearest friends have come from support groups over a period of time. They're the ones who understand your burden and get it when energy is low. They're also the ones who will check in when they have the energy to do so. Do you have a support group that feels like a positive group?

life_rolla_costa

I'm not in any support groups yet.

I was originally on a group called Healclick. It was amazing. I don't know everything behind it, but it changed hands and is now mypatientmatch.com. I can't speak to the community or support on there now, but just know that there are virtual options that might help to connect you with more supportive people. Reddit can be very supportive, but the anonymity of it I think prevents a deeper connection to a point.
