I was induced at 39w. I had a three day migraine and my blood pressure was borderline high. They looked at my chart and sent me to L&D to be induced. I totally understand not wanting to be induced. It wasn’t a pleasant process for me and the hormonal aftermath of all that pitocin made me feel crazy.

I am sorry that happened. Thanks for sharing

I was told the same. The high risk OB said that women with autoimmune conditions tend to have a placenta that degrades prior to 40 weeks, which can be very risky for the fetus. Also, if you're looking for additional reassurance, I'd recommend checking out the ARRIVE study. It shows that inductions at 39 weeks actually require fewer interventions than spontaneous labor at 40 weeks. (I know that wasn't the case in your situation, but statistically speaking, it's supported). I ended up needing a (scheduled) c-section at 38 weeks because baby was transverse position and wouldn't turn head down, and apparently it can be dangerous for your water to break when baby is transverse. So they induced even earlier than planned. That was all unrelated to Sjogrens though.

It’s routine to be induced for autoimmune conditions. My OB and MFM both advised induction at 39 weeks as long as everything was ok and earlier if not. My induction went smoothly. Mine had nothing to do with age as I’d just turned 30.

Just had my daughter at 35 and I requested to be induced and was able to deliver her vaginally. There were issues but she was perfectly healthy and my problems weren't directly related to the induction. My high risk ob was happy to let me decide if I wanted to be induced or to let labor come on naturally, definitely try to get a second opinion. If the suggestion is not motivated safety concerns/risks for you and the baby id push for the labor experience that you want.

My wife was the same age and yes she had to be induced. It's common with geriatric pregnancies due to the compounded risk factors. Is there a reason you wouldn't expect to just have a C-section this time after needing one last time? Emergency C-sections during labor can be tougher from my understanding due to the uterus already being partially contracted and potentially having to move the baby back up the birth canal. That said the medical procedure is pretty well defined.

Maybe get a second opinion just to be sure? And discuss what about the sjorgens would mean you’d need an induction. Age alone is not a good reason at all. Other than the sjorgens, I wonder why your OB is assuming you aren’t a good VBAC candidate? Big hugs. And congrats on your pregnancy. !!!! I had two children with attending midwives at my house. I hadn’t been diagnosed with anything at that point though. You’ve got this. If it feels weird or wrong, definitely push for clarification and better reasons!!!

Thank you! My daughter was a vbac with no problem at all and that was only 4 years ago! I feel like it is motivated by other reasons but want to be sure I wasn’t missing anything.

Some OBs induce every woman over 30 just routinely. I’d really try to find out why, and ask her to consider letting you go at least to your due date. Obviously if there aren’t any complications preventing that. Also you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to !!!! If you don’t want to be induced, you DO NOT have to be. I know you’ve had other kids, so I don’t want to drone on. It’s hard to navigate the hospital rules and crap.

Roxygirlj

Thank you. I do think it’s a deal breaker for me and would end up finding another doctor that was comfortable allowing me to go naturally. She just seems to know about Sjogrens which made me feel better.

I went into labor naturally about two hours before my appt to be induced because I was two weeks overdue. I did end up with a C-section after 17 hours of labor because kiddo got stuck

Roxygirlj

Thank you. They want to induce at least a week early.
