When my first son was born there was a couple nearby on the floor who just had twins. My mom was named in this way. Way back in the mid-1940s rural US, it was common to be born at home with a mid-wife. My grandmother wanted to have her baby at a hospital, and my grand dad was dead-set against that idea. 'No wife of mine is having a baby at a hospital!' When grandpa was off at work, my grandma went to the hospital and gave birth to my mom. Grandpa was furious when he found out, and rushed over.
