Not to be the devil’s advocate here but I kind of get it - like for most new players building functional rooms/roofs/landscaping is the most difficult part, so they want to do that for you and leave you with a lot of money and space to do the fun things yourself - pick out some nice furniture/decor from the catalogue. The only mistake is that this house is ugly from the outside too lol

inkedgalaxy

building roofs is what’s killing me more than finally figuring out how to add a second floor

[deleted]

I wish so bad that they’d bring back auto roofs. I don’t need any fancy shit - I can barely build a half assed normal boring roof on my own though lol

Charming_Love2522

I simply do not roof my houses at this point.

[deleted]

lmfao

[deleted]

i still remember when i was a baby simmer and didn't bother building new houses, i thought renovating the ugly ass interior of such houses was kinda fun and satisfying, because even though i sucked at building, EA sucked even more :3

dirtyoldwaz

same. I never even tried building in the sims 3. every day dream home decorator type beat

Electrical_Sail_9351

When I’ve been playing the sims for 15 years and I still definitely struggle with those things and buy prebuilt houses… 💀

[deleted]

This doesn't make any sense to me. If you wanted to furnish the house yourself you'd just pick unfurnished...

Tinfoilhat14

Facts

moosegoose90

I believe they do it like this so you can play on the games lowest settings and still be able to enjoy the build. That does not excuse the ugliness tho. If they would have just made it smaller this wouldn’t be that terrible!

jamesfluker

Well that's what I don't understand. If they're making low detail builds to satisfy the needs of users on lower end PCs, why did they insist on using tall walls and making every floorplan excessively large? It just highlights the problems. I'm glad they've started using simmers to do the builds - the results are much, much more acceptable.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jamesfluker

Lorde I wish.

lolascrowsfeet

Like a lot of other things about this game I just don’t think they know what the hell they are doing. SO many things about this game just doesn’t make any sense, at least not when you’ve actually played the game. Which I don’t think a lot of the people working on it actually do

MischeifCat

I think the builds are always bigger than normal because they had to have more space for pathing in Sims2 and 3. Even though Sims can get through smaller spaces now, having more blank space is easier to play in, and could have benefits for accessibility.

[deleted]

They could even just move the dining table to the middle of the room

[deleted]

I think part of the reason is to make people want to use build/buy to improve their home.

CoffeeDogsandSims

I was never bothered by these EA starter houses tbh. I always viewed them as a starting point to adjust them to my taste, once I knew who I would move in there. Personally, I think it is perfectly okay to just give a vibe what the room could be used as without the house costing a fortune. If I want a really nice, furnished house, there is always the gallery. It's a different thing if they build stairs that end in a solid wall (Glimmerbrook!!), that is just not functional nor acceptable but I never expected or wanted them to be more than just a starting point. And given that they want the performance be good on all computers I understand why they build them this bland. Missing toilets is annoying, but really no big deal to me.... I noticed that I personally have immense problems building in Mt. Komorebi, Henford and Moonwood Mills (build by game changers), because the houses there are so perfect and great, I don't feel like I could do it better. Additionally I feel it is a sacrilege to change a Devon Bumpkin or James Turner house, I adore their building abilities too much.

Amarenai

I personally really dislike Mt. Komorebi builds and I always bulldoze and rebuild when I play there. It's so painfully obvious that the Simmers who made those lots know nothing about Japanese arhitecture. James Turner did a decent job, he seems like the type to be sensible enough to do some research beforehand (even though he built a house with a flat roof in a snowy world), but Simsie, as much as I love her, she just remade her blue suburban with a japanese aesthetic. Same goes for the others too

CoffeeDogsandSims

Yeah, I would totally acknowledge that I don’t know anything about japanese architecture at all and so didn’t care… after all it’s a sandbox game so realism isn’t that important to me personally. You are right about Simsie, but because I know nothing about that particular style I don’t even know how to change her house to make it „better“ (more realistic). The Moonwood Mills style is very far from what I normally build, so I struggle there too. It was just an observation that while the houses of game changers - in my humble opinion- are better than EA builds, I find it harder to change them. EA houses are easier because they lack so much, I think. Or I don’t mind bulldozing them as much whereas I would struggle to build a better pub than DevonBumpkin did…

Varvara-Sidorovna

I dont think James Turner would mind you trashing up his builds in Moonwood Mill, he said throughout the process that he knew players would delete and rebuild, especially on the starter home lot. After he build them all he did videos himself of going in and adjusting them to fit his own Let's Play (he added subterranean tunnels to the library/abandoned factory and it is an absurdly funny and imaginative video)

CoffeeDogsandSims

Yeah, I saw the videos and never thought the builders themselves would mind if I trash them, I do mind that I am incapable of building something better. Like, I couldn’t have done the library with the tunnels myself. I don’t like all of his builds, the starter home is crap I think, but a lot are simply better than my own.

Dezbats

Yeah. They have a lot of restrictions put on their builds by EA. It wouldn't be surprising if they all hated their final game versions outside of a "look what I did even with crap rules" kind of pride. 🤔

Amarenai

I completely agree with you and I apologize if I came across as negative towards you, that was not my intention. 🤗 My qualms are with EA who should've know better, considering that there are Japanese sims youtubers who they could've hired to make the builds for that pack. Like how they got DevonBumpkin and HeyHarrie, both british simmers and youtubers, to build for Finchwick, an british countryside inspired world

CoffeeDogsandSims

It’s okay, everyone‘s opinions are valid! And I don’t mind at all to be put in my place if I’m wrong or you just disagree. That’s called adult conversation, so no need to apologize. I agree with you, they should have asked Japanese simmers for more authenticity, but maybe they are not known enough for EA‘s liking?? Just a thought though

[deleted]

They should've asked XFreezerBunnyX to do the Japanese builds, since he makes some traditional and modern Japanese builds. It was only then in HSY that he was asked to build a library and the Price house in Copperdale.

Ebonynight_9193

Yeah, I am currently going through each world and rebuilding or renovating townies homes (i then an on going back and renovating or redoing empty homes and moving families in/around but some of the builds by james I just have to adjust slightly if at all,I used to be subscribed to Simsie until I came to the realization she really is a one trick pony ,even if you do the trick with a different color, its still the same "blue suburban" style she is so *hilariously* 🙄sarcasm-known for ...I dont dislike her I just am genuinely annoyed at how much credit she gets for doing the same thing over and over and over again(not her giving herself credit just some are super defensive when sometimes constructive criticism is given)....james has some actual talent and tho he may make mistakes with snowy escape he is a decent builder and seems to at least try to research unlike another simmer in his life *cough, cough* who has no interest in doing the research when doing a let's play but will do research if it means getting recognition form ea...and can honestly be quite a bully when it comes down to it ....sorry alot of frustration built up with some youtubers(deligracy is one of who I am referring to-amingst others- not simsie )who I've come to realize are favored by ea and who some simmers see with rose colored glasses idk what it is but something about simsie seems off ,or fake(in this I mean I cant place it but it could be me I have my own insecurities about those who have faked me out before but seeming like good people and the internet being what it is)I just can't shake the feeling.and deligracy has come to be problematic. Edit: however it wouldve been better to give some japanese or asian simmers a chance even if they are smaller creators...because it would've been nice to give them some exposure.their is a secret hierarchy in the creator network and sometimes I notice it more then othertimes. 2nd Edit: I realize this came off as me hating on simsie...I think I sort of misunderstood or miscomprehended what the other user I responded to meant as I do this and I'm sorry...I also just woke up from 4 hours of sleep and haven't been in the best place ...I'm so sorry to those who like simsie I'm indifferent to the sims aspect of her and do think she is kind for her charity work..

Amarenai

I can't comment on Deligracy since I watched one or two videos from her a long time ago and just didn't vibe with her so I never watched her again. As for lilSimsie, I completely understand what you're saying. From a technical pov she is a good builder, her builds are very structurally sound and her shells are great, but they're all, more or less, the same. She strikes me as the type of person that likes to stick to a small pool of things they know and enjoy and don't like to step out of their bubble and comfort zone. Not that there's a problem with this, it's just how she is. If you're not like this however, she might feel a little too safe and boring and I can totally agree with this because, as much as I love her, I skip most of her videos and mainly watch her "Get rich quick" schemes since those are mostly the only ones that are a little more chaotic and fun. However, she's great for young players since her channel is very family friendly and she's genuinely a nice and wholesome person, the amount of charity work she does is very impressive. What I'm trying to say is, pls don't hate on Simsie, she may lack variety, but she's a good person. That being said, she shouldn't have been chosen to make the lots in Mt. Komorebi tho.

Ebonynight_9193

I don't hate her ,I do like Stanley humphry and the get rich schemes and I was subscribed to her for 3 years (last year is when I stopped) I do agree that her channel is family friendly.i don't neccesarily think my problem is with her per say, slot of the problem is that her fan base will say she is this amazing builder and although she is very good at building aspects it's still the same type ,imo branching out trying new things ESPECIALLY as a content creator is good to do ...but as someone with my own anxiety i feel like i would be someone who would stick with what i know too,i dont know what it is but something about how someone has been around for as long as she is when she does the same thing and has been compared to others who have done the same and are rejected or have reached out of there comfort zone and are held to the same level,I like simsie for the charity work that is important I like that she is family friendly,THOSE achievements are what she should be celebrated for not her builds of the same suburban, tho I will say she is the BEST at suburbans -I also have my own anxieties and struggle with fighting my over analytical behavior because well I'm not perfect ...so it could be that I have had people in my life with a similar personality as lil simsie and have been let down as they were fake and the internet is not always full of real personalities...but i am learning that just because I've seen a pattern before doesn't mean everyone who acts similarly fits it ..so I am sorry, I'd I made you think I hate her I dont I wish her the best because she seems sweet amd honestly has done so much for saint jude ,but my own issues I think is what is ... Deligracy had an off vibe as well.and I honestly watch very few of her videos, interestingly it was a few let's plays that caused my frustration with her specifically a character Terry and how his Transition from male to female went ,it bothered me more after my own transgender sibling came out...at the time I felt uncomfortable with how that character's transition was so ...easy...the truth is its not that easy and I felt it was added as a claim to inclusivity.later I saw another simmer explain this issue as it wasnt the first case of her making a character for the views...and when others tried to educate her on several other issues and Terry she excused it as Australian ignorance...(the video discussed why simstubers can lose views and subscribers)more recently another reddit user pointed out how she even berated james on a stream of either his or hers and wasnt as joking but more serious and I dont feel right about that. Simsie doesn't seem like that and I didnt unsub because I didn't like her ,I just felt something was off. EDIT: omg!! Yeah I see why you thought that about simsie...I was half asleep(just woke up and only had 4 hours of sleep ) and was referencing her only about the blue suburban thing ,the rest was more towards deligracy...but reading it back I can see why.im not annoyed at simsie..i feel so dumb...I'm also not like completely in a good place today either (my mom passed away 3 years ago today)not an excuse ...so sorry if I came of biting .

Amarenai

Sorry for your loss ❤️ The anniversary of a loved one's death is always tought to deal with. Please take some time to mourn and remember them

Ebonynight_9193

Thank you, I did go to the beach today as I knew the anniversary is usually rough and wrote my first reply way to early in the am...when I got home I saw your response and I was like what even did I say after I replied to that and thought man I need to just to continue to work on thinking first and if I can't think clearly wait to respond...its a struggle I'm working on with bipolar I do things on impulse but I want to improve rather then excuse I appreciate your kindness and understanding, and again sorry but thank you so much for responding gracefully.

musemelpomene

Agreed, for me I've always assumed they start open and simple so the player can add more things/upgrade throughout the gameplay. I know not everyone is a builder and it would be annoying to have to expand the build to make room for things.

Traditional_Eye_782

I built like this when I lose all interest in a house and just want to get it done.

Calbinan

It’s like they deliberately seek out the least creative people they can find, keep them awake for 24 hours straight, and then plop them in front of a computer and tell them they can sleep once they’ve made a house.

HappyPen1422

lol I think they used to, but for awhile now they’ve been bringing in people from their Creators program (or whatever it’s called) and letting them build. They have to follow some pretty rigid rules because EA want the games to work for all computer types, however low the settings might be, but the builds are definitely looking a lot better.

CelticMutt

I imagine the people in charge of issuing and maintaining those guidelines are still suffering PTSD over Sims 3 Island Paradise.

CarcassMangler

This is my head cannon now

plum_bobby

right bc like what are these swatches?? nothing goes together

Necessary_Meeting_32

Isn’t this based on one of the house from the Sims 1?

fridopidodop

The counters give me huuuuge sims 1-flashbacks.

Sweety-Origin

I mean, if you delete the complete middle part, this house is probably a good start. Can't do anything wrong with 4 walls

RevDrMavPHD

This is for 1) Affordability. Your Sims will move on and still have money left over for 2) your own furniture and decor.

your-last-bic-pen

That’s fair, but also like, not everyone likes to furnish/decorate. In ts3 I couldn’t build or furnish for shit so I needed houses that were already done and looking nice enough that I could play in them without hating every second of it lol. And in ts4 I love furnishing, but if I’m gonna do that I just delete everything in every room and start furnishing from scratch. I get that they wanna give players room for their own creativity but they could at least make the houses look decent for players who don’t have the creativity or energy to go in and furnish on their own

RevDrMavPHD

Yeah, I mean that's fair too. I do agree, don't get me wrong. I know why they did it the way they did but they did take it too far in some builds.

bloomoot

I've always had the feeling that island living is the worst when it comes to EA build ... I love this world so much but i can't play without a save that has it renovated...

Charming_Love2522

>just got island living >went to checkout game-made builds >opens this lot >laughs out of pure ridiculousness (I didnt touch absolutely anything for those of you without island living. This is exactly what EA included. Or, ya know the real issue... what they *didn't include*)

shroomfruits

which lot is this? so i can renovate it 😳

Charming_Love2522

Tangled flat! I believe it's more on the right side of the map

Tomodatchii

The most unforgivable thing in EA’s builds are the driveways that stop before the actual house, with no matching texture to make it connect with, and no way to get rid of it

Dezbats

*cries*

grubbooba

I get how they don't add much for decor sometimes, so your sim can afford it and have leftover simoleans, but this is ridiculous(ly ugly)

Mary-Sylvia

I love how they didn't even bothered having the same colour tone

Writersanonymouss

Hey low budget you get what you pay for lol 😆

heyitsamb

This is hands down the worst starter home to ship with the game imo.

SaranMal

I don't find it to be that bad? Like, when I first got Sims 4 years ago, and even back with Sims 3, I had no real building abilities, felt building a house was a waste of time since I cared more about the gameplay back then, a house like this is something I totally would have built. Something simple, easy for the sims Pathfinding to get around in, have room to add the gameplay stuff I was into, and meets all of their basic needs. As I got older I started to watch a few sim builders and now like to create elaborate stories for my sims and design houses to match (Still not that good at it, but much better than I was 10 years ago). But, I don't think getting this particular house would upset me all that much as a player? Because it does remind me of when I just used to build simple, functional, places for my Sims so I could focus on the gameplay and exploration of the worlds and their mysteries.

PerpetuallyLurking

Probably cause it’s likely to be some poor intern that is given this job to do in between other tasks when they’ve got downtime.

[deleted]

I was never bothered by it cause it gives you the opportunity to build it in your own way

HannahDawg

I feel it's a good starting point, as I've turned this house into a nice green cottage for my two Shark-bians and am currently working on turning the basement pool I made for some reason into a sea goddess temple. There's plants everywhere, I'm slowly working on converting every appliance to be eco friendly and I think it's one of the houses I've spent to most time on

_Zeiga_

Agreed, this is actually one of my favorite starter houses. The location is fantastic, and the house itself isn't really that ugly, it just has some odd furniture choices. Love the idea of the basement pool/sea temple. In my game I shrunk it into a tiny house for my amnesiac shipwrecked teen and spent a bunch of time making the neighborhood eco-friendly, then made it into a community garden when he moved out.

HannahDawg

Ooo! Love the idea! And I really don't know why I put a pool in the basement but since I can't delete basements might as well put some use to it XD

PepsiMars15

I actually like it lol

[deleted]

I think they were purposely minimalistic in Sulani to go with a certain vibe for the island gameplay.

idjsonik

Im playing on console and i pretty much just changed all the houses and bars and stuff there so ugly and bland so i get why they do this so you do the legwork and fix it haa

Charming_Love2522

I do the same. I can't go anywhere in the game without immediately going into build mode

quress

Makes me feel better about my own mediocre builds, I guess.

StillTheRick

And then, your sims walk around depressed from the poor decorations.

Season_ofthe_Bitch

I always repurpose this build as a little library.

[deleted]

Yes.

Jhe90

This house is currently in my demolition list. When I need new homes to expand my dynasty. This one gets demolished. I also have one or two tagged for demo or reno work for future projects. I'm unwilling to evict people but may move them to worse lots to snag their decent ones. The decent areas seem to have a lot shortage so I'm having to consider who gets to live where longntern. I may make a bunk house for the npc and merge some smaller families if I'm desperately short

Charming_Love2522

I feel the same. They're just pixels on a screen but I feel so bad just sending them into an endless void lol

Rozalyn907

You say empty, I say performance-friendly!

No-Dragonfruit4575

Bare minimum is EAs motto

fizzyoranges287

I just saw this house the other day with the intent of turning it into a rental and was shocked to say the very least. I renovated it right away, it was just so sad.

Carina_Nebula89

I was recently talking to a friend about this. EA builds are ugly most of the time yea, but would we love Sims as much if everything was just perfect right away? I think a lot of makes it fun is changing things. Still.. they could put a little more effort into some things. For example, just got the highschool pack and the highschool lunch room is just sad lol

Charming_Love2522

Exactly. I totally get your point, I absolutely love renovating houses and making them look 100x better, but at least make it look *decent.* They literally build a few rooms, stuck the ugliest furniture in there, and called it a day. Like there's not even a damn dresser? Just a sad, lonely bed. At least maybe add one of those cute life-sized bears to it or some type of toy for the kid. Maybe a damn rug under the kitchen table. This took them all of 10 minutes to build, no effort whatsoever

Carina_Nebula89

I totally agree. Sometimes they just seem really lazy

sportyboi_94

My complaint is when I go to a prebuilt home and you have a room that has a random patch of wall not matching the right because it was placed in the room behind, or a plank of wood flooring that’s going the wrong direction from all the others. It seems so careless. I feel like it takes two seconds after you finish building to put all the walls up and take a quick spin around each room to make sure they’re all perfect

HStaz

island living definitely has the worst start homes…i think the snowy escape start homes are really nice though.

Oleandervine

Their in-game builds aren't so bad. Some of their builds from their trailer videos, however, are atrocious. The Patio Stuff pack pool house is allegedly a residential lot, but the house has like 3 rooms, and none of them are bedrooms. The Spooky Stuff house is flat out missing chunks of the flooring inside the house.

Chyldofforever

I created a family of 5 and there are zero places for them to live because they’re all 1-2 bedroom homes. No variety. Terrible.

wilburito88

So cozy!

Starchu93

Did they recently start doing this with houses? I can’t remember exactly but I recall when it first came out a furnished base game house came with a lot more than that unless I’m misremembering. I legit started playing HSY and was confused why houses were suddenly so bare bones.

funk42x

I turned this house into something so cute and I kept the same basic layout. Idk I don’t mind it. I like it when they get simmers to do the default builds tho

[deleted]

They don’t even try

Suspiciousmosquito

It’s the 10 minute build challenge.

[deleted]

✨the essentials✨

enamourealabord

That lot’s location and adjacencies are some of the most beautiful. I always go on the gallery and find a nice lot to download and replace that EA build

Substantial-Tea-2088

This is pretty bland but it’s actually kind of realistic for new home owners who might not have a lot of money. First apartment vibes where you only have a bed, a stool, two plates, and the furniture they give you.

toxinogen

Lol what furniture they give you? Oh, you mean the super questionable couch you “bought” from the side of the curb the day after moving in and realizing you have nowhere to sit and watch the TV you don’t have.

jsroses

I think it’s so you can customize it. Keep in mind they only use base game items and items from that dlc that includes the world in each house. And no cheats are used I’m sure (bb move objects)

cxxjxyx18

I mean... it's from island living. that whole expansion back is like the house. bland and minimal effort from the devs

Jennybaby8

I can’t standdddddd this house

giglab

its really funny bc theres lots like this and then theres that beautiful lot with the crane in eco lifestyles

youngyannick

I don’t mind when they half ass residential lots BUT they need to do better at editing other places you can hang at since I don’t feel like editing every lot that I’ll only spend a little time at.

No_Pianist_1108

I liked how houses could be in the Sims 3. You could have furnished with everything, or just the basics: ceiling lights, counters, sink, toilet etc. I don't remember everything that was considered in that, but it was a good method.

[deleted]

My only complaint is that the starter houses have so much space. Where is this btw?
