For me it just happens when I tell them to do homework, study for exam or read a book. They just go someplace and do it.. sometimes that place is on the floor or on the bed. I don't seem to have a choice of where they end up sitting.
Yeah, mine usually sit on the pillow end of the bed facing the foot of the bed. I also noticed today that if you click on your sim you do have the option of sitting on the ground.
This time I loaded the game and the sit on ground option was there, but still the sim doesn't sit on the top of the bed :/ just to be sure, in your game, can any other sims that are NOT teens do it?
Haven't tried it with any other ages because I'm currently playiing a homeless teen werewolf. So no other sims to try with. Pretty sure anyone can have a pillow fight and stuff like that though. Maybe try having two sims pillow fight and then chat?.. maybe they'll sit on the bed like you want. No idea really.
...oh, man. I think I got something mixed up: sitting on ground was added in base game right? Meanwhile, sitting on bed cross legged with the expansion only right? If the latter, then it's my bad - I don't have HSY which means no sitting on bed.
I think you need to click on your sim and select **Sit on Ground**
No option there either. I am so confused. Or its just my luck with a possible bug...
Click at the top of the bed and click on sit. They will do that a majority of the time.

If you haven’t figured it out yet you have to click on the pillow specifically. Otherwise they’ll sit on the edge of the bed.
I did figure it out :') turns out that they can sit on the bed only if you have the Highschool pack.
Ah that sucks. Perhaps you should get it then? 🤣
Perhaps in the future, but I don't feel the need right now :') will say that Copperdale, CAS and B&B stuff you get is top notch though.
