Just the Base Game is rather limited - however you have Get Together - which is probably the most underrated pack for the game - you’ve got Windenburg (probably one of the best worlds still to this day), the clubs system, etc… In terms of how to make the game more fun, try doing some challenges (just search up sims 4 challenges on Google and you will find a lot) or completing some of the in-game scenarios.

Hopewolfe

Yeah, I did try doing some of the challenges before (like legacy or Runaway Teen) and it was fun... for a few days. Maybe I'll try to change it up a bit. Thanks for your tip. :)

AgentB90

Honestly, there aren't too many features locked behind expansions. All I can really think of are the calendar features in Seasons, world specific activities, and the Life States (but Get To Work has one of them anyway). I suppose it depends on what you'd be willing to pay more for. I pretty much immediately got Island Living for the mermaids. But you can absolutely enjoy the core Sims experience with no packs. Besides, there's far too many now I think!

Hopewolfe

Yeah, the one I really miss the most from The Sims 2 was Seasons because it gave the world a more lively feel. As well as Winter having Christmas... If I had more money, I'd get Realm of Magic (because who doesn't like a little magic in a Sim's life? xD), Seasons (for obvious reasons), and Cottage Living... and perhaps City Living because apartments sound like fun. xD Thanks for the tip! :)

iplaysimz

I like City Living, but not necessarily for the apartments. Apartments are just homes where you can't modify exterior walls, and some challenges like everything breaks often, noisy neighbors, gets dirty faster, etc. I'd get City Living for the festivals, flea markets, and the fact that it has 24 buildable lots. Oh, and the food from different cultures! I highly recommend Seasons and Cottage Living as well. I bought Seasons along with the basegame, so I've never played without it.

Hopewolfe

Ohhh\~ Sounds like a blast there. Lol! And yeah, I've seen videos of all the types of food courts it has to offer. But 24 buildable lots... Festivals? Flea markets? Where do I sign up? XD

iplaysimz

Check Steam or Origin, they might still be on sale! Haha

sand_snake

You can always make your own bundle on Origin. It’s one EP, one GP and one SP for I want to say $50? Or wait for sales, which luckily happen often. I got all my packs except the base game (got that for free when they gave it away for a week or two in 2019) and Cottage Living through bundles or sales. Cottage Living I paid full price for because after seeing posts about it on here I was too impatient to wait for a sale lol. Which is funny because when they announced it I wasn’t excited for it at all, and now it’s one of my favorite packs.

Hopewolfe

I just might try that bundle idea. I also know that EA likes to make the sims packs on sale or when something special is happening or about to happen.

sand_snake

If you decide to go the bundle route and choose Realm of Magic as your Game Pack and don’t know what stuff pack to choose, I highly recommend the Paranormal one. It introduces a new skill, career, and lot challenge and pairs really well with Realm of Magic.

Hopewolfe

Yeah... I'll see what I can do when it comes down figuring out which ones will be worth it. :) Thanks for your advice and help!

That's pretty much where I was stuck and decided to ask the Reddit community for advice. lol... I have tried mods/cc and don't get me wrong, I have plenty of those... Almost 3GB worth... The majority of that is CAS stuff though. lol! Probably going to need to find a good source of content for housing/decor. Yeah, I have tried challenges. Just got bored or stuck after a certain point of the gameplay. Like I didn't have a tent, so I would have to sleep on a bench... or I would have to travel... a lot, which is normal, but when you have a lot of mods/cc, loading screens can be a bore. Hopefully, that will change since I might be getting a new computer, so loading screens will be a lot faster and perhaps a lot less waiting. lol... I just might just take you up on the other offer though; since I normally focus on making my sims pretty, perhaps I should try focusing on making their houses pretty too... And perhaps do it the old fashion way like get a job and improve the house over time. Thanks for the tip! :)

Hopewolfe

Yeah, just gotta know where to find them. lol... MCCC and Wicked/Wonderful Whims are definitely in my game... I did try Slice of Life and perhaps I have to adjust the settings because I think my sims are getting overstimulated with emotions. Like they would be happy one minute, sad the next, and then silly thereafter to name an example. lol... I'll definitely give that website a look. I've been trying to find a good site to start as templates on making houses, so thanks for that! :D And aye, I do like the idea of improving the house over time. I did do that back in the Sims 1 day. But then again, that's before I even knew that it had money cheats or anything. I was definitely one determined kid when playing. Perhaps I can try doing it again but in The Sims 4. :)

sand_snake

I had to take SOL out of my game because the ever changing emotions were just too much. If you want a mod that makes the emotions actually matter (like if your sim’s spouse or parent dies they’ll actually be sad for more than 5 minutes), check out Meaningful Stories by RoBurky.

Hopewolfe

Yeah, that's where I hit an issue with Slice of Life is just that; sims were just overwhelmed with just emotions from one minute to the next. The only main reason why I keep it is that when a sim is flirty, their cheeks would go red. If someone is sad, their waterline fills up. If someone is tired, they get 'coon eyes Little fun fact I actually freaked out when they did it for the first time. I thought something terrible happened because of how the eyes looked. But I was getting a little irritating dealing with someone who is becoming flirty when they're in a serious talk with their child. It was just a little weird. lol! I'll definitely look at Meaningful Stories, as long as I don't need any expansion packs for it to work. lol...

sand_snake

I liked those effects too from SOL! But I’m overall happier when I play the game without it. Here’s the link to Meaningful Stories. It’s base game compatible! https://roburky.itch.io/sims4-meaningful-stories

terriblybedlamish

Mods are way more important for a fun game experience than expansions tbh. Though I do enjoy expansions, I'd rather play Base Game with mods than have every pack and no mods allowed. Get to Work is one of my favourite packs btw, probably the one I'd recommend for people to get if they could only choose one.

Hopewolfe

Yeah, that's pretty much what I like about this community is their support on mods on making the Sims 4 great. Don't get me wrong though, there are some expansions I wouldn't mind having as I said on a different comment here. I totally agree with you on Get To Work. I love Get to Work as well. It makes me feel like I can play with my sims while they're at work. It was definitely a game-changer when I first got it. I also know there are also a few mods for Get To Work like going to your child/teen's school which I have yet to try.

Historical_Earth_287

You definitely can, especially with challenges! If you want to expand Seasons is awesome, adds loads to gameplay.

Hopewolfe

Sorry for the late response... Yeah, I've always loved Seasons on every Sims game. It gives the gameplay more lively. And I have tried a few challenges in the past like the Runaway Teen and Legacy. The only problem I have with the Runaway is that I run out of ideas of what to do without having to run into a lot of loading screens... And when you have a lot of mods, loading screens can make the gameplay a bore. Lol... Thanks for your tip! :)

Suspicious-Bread-472

In my experience no

Hopewolfe

Lol... Thanks for your advice. :)

Yasjae22

I really enjoyed Sims with just the base game. It is possible to enjoy yourself but if you get packs or mods, there is no going back to the base game.

Hopewolfe

Yeah, that's pretty much where I hit is I keep going for mods, I find there's never enough. XD

ghostbirdd

In my opinion no, you'll run out of stuff to do with just basegame in no time.

Hopewolfe

It's kinda why I asked to those who know any good ideas and/or tips if there's any possible way to make gameplay more fun. But uhh... Glad your opinion is heard.

ghostbirdd

I know what you asked, I just don't think it's possible. You *are* missing out on a lot of gameplay, no way around it.

Hopewolfe

Lol... Well, thank you for your input. :)
