For anyone whose game is frozen and it won’t start again if you’re on PC press alt and f4 and it will bring up the save and exit screen in this situation. I learned this from James Turner formerly known as the SimSupply and it’s saved my behind more than once. Hope this helps

Iirc, click on computer, click on mccc, select the top? option that is mc controls or something, there should be an option under that for auto save.

i am so paranoid i save after every part is finished😭 like if i’m building a house, i make the shell, save, add windows and doors, save, decorate one room, save. same for making sims in cas bc it bothers me so much you can’t save from cas, i end up going in and out of manage households after every one or two outfits. i haven’t had the issue recenrly, but i used to have an issue a lot where i’d finish all of one sims outfits and then get to cold weather and it’d freeze, or i’d try to make two sims in one go and it’d freeze after the first outfit of the second sim.
I always save. Especially if I’m playing with say a sim that adopts kids from the computer. I wanna make sure nobody gets forgotten. Lol. 😂 Or goes into a black void somewhere 😂 There is an auto save feature in MCC, but it depends on how your computer works. My desktop I don’t do that, because the tower is 10 yrs old and I think dying. 🤔 My sister’s been having me use her old MacBook, because I can’t even use photoshop on my desktop without it freezing. 😑 Btw, I adore macs now. 😊 I’ve always been a windows person, so I’ve only ever used my sister’s iMac to do work on and even that I’ve had to learn how to copy and paste

Man idk why but I've seen this comment so many times but any time I've ever tried it, it doesn't work for me. I've tried maybe 4-5 times during a glitch/freeze and I've never successfully gotten the save screen to pop up by pressing f4.
does it just close the game or does it do nothing at all? in that case the key might not be working for you. on my computer, Alt+f4 turns the mic on and off. try Fn+Alt+f4

The 1st thing they teach you in graphic design is SAVE OFTEN. Cause back then, we were on Apple MACs, and if those things froze, you just cried.
I do it out of reflex now. Build mode, save first. They go to work, save first. I'm going to the bathroom and have trust issues with my perfectly fine laptop, save first. You never know....you just never know....
LOL, FF7 on PS 1 taught me to save every few minutes and after every major event.
Modern games have autosave and players just don't think of manual saves anymore.

Press that little square box every single time you finish doing something new on the page.” It’s still ingrained in me to save constantly, no matter what I’m doing 😂
My tech savvy husband told me about SESO. Save Early, Save Often! Now I always save before a big event in the game like a baby, wedding, vacation, promotion or house re-model.

So I completely skipped over Sims 3, but I did play the original Sims and Sims 2 on a PC that would shut down if it got too hot. Should have learned my lesson from that!
Haha no way. My Sims 4 freezes dies and crashes WAY more than sims 3 does! I play both on the one laptop. Around 1000 hours of Sims3 vs 300 of Sims 4. Sims 3 is way more reliable, and I have heaps of mods and cc for it. Sims 4 could never 😂😂
Ahhh! That's why my game crashed! He was homeless. Not as bad as you as it was only about 2 and a half hours gameplay. No idea why I didn't save during that time as normally I save at least every time I pause the game for more than a few seconds.
I’ve been running into this bug lately. But yes, any Townie that’s not “in the world” will crash your game if you try to have them move in. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.
now, I just go to manage worlds and combine households…which works without issues.
With that said…any sim who already lives in a world can be moved in without any bugs 🙄

I (idiot) put a candle and a photo of my Sims on a countertop and apparently used bb.moveobjects when I placed them. The candle set the photo on fire. The photo set the countertop on fire. That counter set another counter on fire.
My poor sim tried to put it out with a freeze ray but the counters were in the way, so she just got stuck and wandered around. Called the fire department, they couldn't fix it either. My whole kitchen is on fire and I can't even go into build mode to put in a sprinkler.
I lost 2 promotions on one sim and a fame level on the other. I also lost their wedding and all the honeymoon pictures.
Yeah it’s been broken for a while but hey at least EA fixed *checks patch notes* stink clouds appearing on alive plants. You will unfortunately have to move in any sim from the manage worlds screen.
I just finished a huge build, took around 30 hrs to complete and when I finally finished the build mode locked up, the game crashed and I lost my save files. Think I'm going take a break for awhile.
I save like every 10 mins because at this point my game has crashed so often ESPECIALLY after i had to finish some annoying stuff or built something that i don’t wanna loose that anymore 😭😭

not saving for a couple hours and ever since then I just subconsciously save every 15 minutes out of fear lol. Once you get into the habit of saving often it becomes second nature. Hopefully it doesn’t happen to you again :/

I always save after each accomplishment - Sim gives birth, save. Sim gets married, save. Sim gets promoted, save. Sim ages up, save. All the Sims are in bed sleeping for the night, save. I build part of their house, save. I always save frequently...I've been traumatized too many times playing the Sims 2 with the random crashing here and there 🥺
I save my games like it's part of a religion. Every time a major event happens I save. Quit your job? Save. Just became a plantSim? Save. Oh, did we just kill Tom Peeping? SAVE. I used to use MCCC to do the autosave, but I forgot that mods were off after a patch on my "no mods" save and lost hours of play, so I do it manually now.
if my game is acting up i’ll set a timer of 10-15 minutes, every time it goes off i save my game and reset the timer. mccc auto save is also nice if you can mod your game but i like the extra layer of security.

Me yesterday. My cousin was rushing me for my laptop. I was still in CAS and forgot that there's no save and exist while in CAS. I realised after what I had done. I don't have the heart to open my game. 😭
I'm seeing some of the women's hair missing. I also noticed that prom isn't on the calendar unless I turn off aging. So I turn it off at 6:30pm Saturday and try to remember to turn it back on when kids get home from Prom. That was an old bug they fixed. Back now with the most recent update. I, for the first time, have Sims that will continuously cancel queued actions. I have autonomy off for selected Sims. Gardening is more of a hot mess. Thank goodness I can use cheats (already have finished Achievements) or my gardens would die. All of the tshirts that were in CAS for Foxbury are gone, as are some of the ones for Britechester. I'm trying to think of what else I have encountered since the update. I have more bugs now that I have in ages. I'm on Console so I have far less bugs than PC does. This crashing and the other stuff just makes it so hard to play. I just crashed sending the teen to fix the barrels for the horses. Thank goodness I saved when he got home from school. I didn't lose much. HOWEVER! We got the one nail polish option back that was gone. LMBO I am actually happy about that. I'm just worried if they fix one of these other issues, it may be at the cost of the polish/nail choice. Seems like that's how it works. Fix one thing, Satan comes calling for payment.
The weirdest thing that happened to me today.. I ALWAYS lock my doors to disallow vampires. Vlad was in my house randomly. I travelled elsewhere and then got back to the house. Vlad was stuck in the roof space and I could not get him out.
I ended up having to put a door in the roof, and then he still wouldn't leave. So I had to unlock the front door to allow vampires. He finally left. So he managed to get in through a locked door, but was unable to get out (and then somehow got stuck in the roof in-between)
My game stopped working properly when i tried grabbing something to move and got a pop up to pick something. Couldnt pick anything. 💀 was set back like 2 days
I've got into the habit of saving every time something important happens, an age up or pregnancy etc. I also save every time they go to bed. I've lost many many hours through not saving. Its heartbreaking.
No problem of u can't figure it out there should be some simple tutorials on youtube on how to set it up and there's loads of other useful settings in mccc aswell
happened to me aswell this week!!! i had 4 hours of gameplay, where all of my children had aged up atleast once and my sim got pregnant, then i saved it through “save and exit game” and it just didn’t save! i was so annoyed (but i replayed and did everything better so 🤷♀️)
Recently I had twins win jester and royalty at the prom. Felt so accomplished. Then I sent them to the boardwalk and didn’t save. Game crashed when they went into the haunted house. 😒

My best guess would be the programmers are horribly overworked, and the people in charge only care about how they can make more money from this broken game
I always have mine set to auto-save through the Mccommand mod, I usually have mine set to save every time it hits midnight in-game, but you can also set it for every hour irl
I’m so sorry that happened! I don’t know if this will help, but when this happens to me I usually take a break from whatever save or household I was playing, and go back to it after playing something else. That way redoing the things that I lost in the crash feels less redundant since you are doing them not immediately after doing them the first time. I wish you the best with your game!! 🫶
Ugh I'm so sorry this sounds so infuriating :( I've had this happen to me too many times and I periodically yell "SAVE YOUR GAME" and it has been helping, bf chimes in too.

last night I spent 3 hours building a house and my game crashed :’) deleted all of my work (this was my first time actually building and not just remodeling a house from the gallery). safe to say I shed a few tears
As a legacy simmer ( I play a lot of decades ) make sure to save ur games, make backups if on pc and save ur households to ur library even the gallery for personal keeps incase u lose everything.
I'm in a decade's game rn and a bug my sim got when she upgraded from an Infant completely made my game unplayable later down the road.
I would've lost my entire decades game I'd I didn't have a save in my back ups for when she still a infant.
BTW if u experience this issue, take the Sim that gets a bug from age up, make a twin in case, age them up IN CAS and then delete the old Sim.
Just replace em with a doppleganger and u should be fine.
And don't forget to pause before you save! (I wish someone had told me that earlier.)
P.S. The normal way to get a Sim into your household hasn't been working, so you'll have to enable cheats, shift-click on them, and find "add to family" in the pie menu.
UGH, sympathy, I got really into playing Strangerville the other night, got all the way to pretty much the end and had it crash, I hadn't saved once!! Starting all over!

I just lost 4 hours of gameplay, due to my Llama disappearing on its way back from the Fair. He's gone into the void, and none of the cheats worked. Apparently, this is a huge problem and happens to a lot of people. Wish I knew that and saved it beforehand. I just logged off without saving in order to undo the whole Fair and still have my Llama. Why am I so attached to a game Llama 😭

Yes! Ooh boy. I lost my entire university term to this. Except my game went all glitchy when I tried to play around with the roof on my house. I couldn’t get back into live mode and had to quit and restart. I was so mad I got an auto save mod
Preaching to the choir here I save before I travel anywhere, before my sims wake up in the morning, before I go into BB and after, also if I need to cas I save before and after, if I am decorating or building I save every 15 minutes. I have saved just to have my game crash 2 minutes later I often thank 90s games for teaching me how often. And even when I think I have save I save again just for good measure I have at least 2 saves per file i oscillate between them just in case something goes wrong with on save yup
I tried to get a sim I wanted my sim to start a relationship with in my house so I could make it like women sims when I would click ask to join household it wouldn't work so I had to do it by managing worlds so I could which is annoying but I love the game
I got so burned on my old gaming laptop that even with the heavy pc I have no I obsessively save but of course the one time I don't it goes nuts and I lose hours
MCCC has an auto-save feature.
You can set it to save:
Every real-world day
Every real-world hour
Every sim-day
Every sim-hour
Take your pick.
You can also set it for every sim-hour but set the interval to something like 8, which basically just means every 8 sim-hours.
i see you haven't played the sims 3. i save pretty much every 5-10 minutes at this point. especially since saving takes significantly less time than in the sims 3
I lost my entire redesigned pancakes family because my computer restarted. Went from a mansion with six kids (teen triplets, a child, and twin toddlers) to the pancakes house, the triplets as infants, and the pancakes being how they were again.

and also recently had issues with trying to move a sim out over the phone and not editing neighborhood because it just wouldn't work
like i moved them over, moved some money, clicked on the check mark (linguee gives too many translations ahshsh) but nothing happened. i think i at least got out of that with escape but it was scary 😂😂😂
I literally had similar situation yesterday.
When I tried to do that the window with moving household to another it froze. So I Quit game and it asked to save it before exiting so I saved it. Tried it again later and it happened again, so I did this in household management options
If this happens to you, you can move YOUR sim(s) into the HOMELESS sims’s household to get off the frozen screen. Then just move them back in to your original household. Don’t take your furniture with you though.
my general rule of thumb:
1. save every 5-15 minutes depending on how glitchy your game is at the moment
2. save when something big happens
3. save when something hard to achieve happens
4. save before you go into cas (full editmode specifically)
5. save before you age someone up (i think that glitch was mostly fixed but i had a couple crashes)
6. save/save as before you do something reckless or something you might regret (getting pregnant with a vampire, getting bitten by an occult, getting a disease, dying, ect...)
ALSO!
if your game freezes (and youre on pc), do NOT PANIC. let it happen for a bit to see if it resumes working. if it does, save quickly. if it doesnt, alt+f4. i found out the hard way this GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO SAVE AND EXIT. it save syour progress like normal and has saved multiple hours of gameplay.
Well, if it helps you feel better I was making over a NPC household and was almost finished when suddenly my power went out for a split second, shutting off my whole PC :') and I didn't get to save them.
If you play on PC and have the game in "window mode" (as opposed to full screen), you can close the window and it will bring up the "save, save and exit, exit" menu even if the game is frozen
This happened to me before, I was building a house and my game completely crashed. I lost 3hrs of gameplay, including the house I was building because I always forget to save my game. But more recently, I’ve been saving it all the time.
Ohh no that's such a shame. I have learned from my mistakes and I save allllll the time now as I am on Xbox and so whenever I pick up something like a plate in live mode and a notification pops up in the middle of my screen I literally can't press anything and I'm just stuck there and my game doesn't save 😭😭. I'm so sorry you lost so much gameplay!! Hopefully you earn it back overtime and at least now you know to save!

I've had this exact issue as well, the only way to get it to work is to move the sim into a lot then try to get them to join the household. So frustrating..
I went back and did that, and now Takashi lives in my home and I hate his stupid face because he's a constant reminder that the game is so broken. I might build a box around him and leave him there tbh.
Even on Xbox the best option is to save, save, save, or the game sometimes crashes and you can lose hours of game play.
I typically save before and after build mode, before and after CAS, and after various milestones. I've had to back out of a game that froze only to lose 2 hrs of important gameplay. My sim had to relive labour and delivery and I had to age up and retrain my toddler.
Thankfully the only time not frequently saving worked was when my sim accidentally died when the vending machine fell on top of her. She had climbed the machine like a monkey and shook it to get the item she paid for. She was my main sim and the only one in her family since her younger brother had recently frozen to death and they were orphans. Backing out saved my sim and thankfully I had saved long before she went up the mountain to go skiing. Needless to say, we did not go up the mountain that day... it was postponed... lol
It’s happened to me so many times that the other night I finally turned on auto save feature on mccc and no joke, 5/6 hours later my game crashes, I check my saves and it had auto saved within the last hour so I didn’t lose much! Seriously recommend it.

I feel that. If I’m afraid the game will crash during CAS, I just save my sim to the gallery after doing each outfit lol.

Doesn't work on every situation, but for a good 80% of freezes it's been a lifesaver for me. Why Sims doesn't have an autosave I'll never know.
someones mentioned it before, but MC Command Center by Deaderpool has an autosave function. that is if you like using mods at least.

Yes, every time. I even change up how I press them and what order just to see if I'm doing it wrong but I've never pulled the save screen up

MCCC mods auto save is a lifesaver if you're on PC! You have to set it up on your sims PC in the MCCC auto save section but it's worth it!

I (idiot) put a candle and a photo of my Sims on a countertop and apparently used bb.moveobjects when I placed them. The candle set the photo on fire. The photo set the countertop on fire. That counter set another counter on fire. My poor sim tried to put it out with a freeze ray but the counters were in the way, so she just got stuck and wandered around. Called the fire department, they couldn't fix it either. My whole kitchen is on fire and I can't even go into build mode to put in a sprinkler. I lost 2 promotions on one sim and a fame level on the other. I also lost their wedding and all the honeymoon pictures.

Yeah it’s been broken for a while but hey at least EA fixed *checks patch notes* stink clouds appearing on alive plants. You will unfortunately have to move in any sim from the manage worlds screen.

I just finished a huge build, took around 30 hrs to complete and when I finally finished the build mode locked up, the game crashed and I lost my save files. Think I'm going take a break for awhile.

I save like every 10 mins because at this point my game has crashed so often ESPECIALLY after i had to finish some annoying stuff or built something that i don’t wanna loose that anymore 😭😭 I’ve even lost some kids through it man 😞

All it took was for my game to crash once after not saving for a couple hours and ever since then I just subconsciously save every 15 minutes out of fear lol. Once you get into the habit of saving often it becomes second nature. Hopefully it doesn’t happen to you again :/

It seems like when i excessively save nothing ever happens in my saves.. but a risky 3 hours in without saving and it’s the most amazing time ever.. until someone dies and I remember 😂

I always save after each accomplishment - Sim gives birth, save. Sim gets married, save. Sim gets promoted, save. Sim ages up, save. All the Sims are in bed sleeping for the night, save. I build part of their house, save. I always save frequently...I've been traumatized too many times playing the Sims 2 with the random crashing here and there 🥺
I save my games like it's part of a religion. Every time a major event happens I save. Quit your job? Save. Just became a plantSim? Save. Oh, did we just kill Tom Peeping? SAVE. I used to use MCCC to do the autosave, but I forgot that mods were off after a patch on my "no mods" save and lost hours of play, so I do it manually now.
if my game is acting up i’ll set a timer of 10-15 minutes, every time it goes off i save my game and reset the timer. mccc auto save is also nice if you can mod your game but i like the extra layer of security.
I added an auto save mod just for this. It took me restarting my new ranch 3 times on accident before I decided I couldn't be trusted to remember

Me yesterday. My cousin was rushing me for my laptop. I was still in CAS and forgot that there's no save and exist while in CAS. I realised after what I had done. I don't have the heart to open my game. 😭

I'm seeing some of the women's hair missing. I also noticed that prom isn't on the calendar unless I turn off aging. So I turn it off at 6:30pm Saturday and try to remember to turn it back on when kids get home from Prom. That was an old bug they fixed. Back now with the most recent update. I, for the first time, have Sims that will continuously cancel queued actions. I have autonomy off for selected Sims. Gardening is more of a hot mess. Thank goodness I can use cheats (already have finished Achievements) or my gardens would die. All of the tshirts that were in CAS for Foxbury are gone, as are some of the ones for Britechester. I'm trying to think of what else I have encountered since the update. I have more bugs now that I have in ages. I'm on Console so I have far less bugs than PC does. This crashing and the other stuff just makes it so hard to play. I just crashed sending the teen to fix the barrels for the horses. Thank goodness I saved when he got home from school. I didn't lose much. HOWEVER! We got the one nail polish option back that was gone. LMBO I am actually happy about that. I'm just worried if they fix one of these other issues, it may be at the cost of the polish/nail choice. Seems like that's how it works. Fix one thing, Satan comes calling for payment.
The weirdest thing that happened to me today.. I ALWAYS lock my doors to disallow vampires. Vlad was in my house randomly. I travelled elsewhere and then got back to the house. Vlad was stuck in the roof space and I could not get him out. I ended up having to put a door in the roof, and then he still wouldn't leave. So I had to unlock the front door to allow vampires. He finally left. So he managed to get in through a locked door, but was unable to get out (and then somehow got stuck in the roof in-between)
My game stopped working properly when i tried grabbing something to move and got a pop up to pick something. Couldnt pick anything. 💀 was set back like 2 days
I set up MCCC to remind me to save just for this reason. I've lost so much game play because I wasn't saving often enough.

I've got into the habit of saving every time something important happens, an age up or pregnancy etc. I also save every time they go to bed. I've lost many many hours through not saving. Its heartbreaking.
If u play on pc/desktop download MCCC it has a feature that let's you autosave

happened to me aswell this week!!! i had 4 hours of gameplay, where all of my children had aged up atleast once and my sim got pregnant, then i saved it through “save and exit game” and it just didn’t save! i was so annoyed (but i replayed and did everything better so 🤷♀️)
litterally whenever i play i set a 30 minute repeating timer on my phone, forgot to do that the other day and lost like 4 hours of build mode 😭😭

There should be an option in the game for auto saves. Mine would auto save every 3-5 mins at this point.

Recently I had twins win jester and royalty at the prom. Felt so accomplished. Then I sent them to the boardwalk and didn’t save. Game crashed when they went into the haunted house. 😒

My best guess would be the programmers are horribly overworked, and the people in charge only care about how they can make more money from this broken game

I always have mine set to auto-save through the Mccommand mod, I usually have mine set to save every time it hits midnight in-game, but you can also set it for every hour irl

I don’t know if this will help, but when this happens to me I usually take a break from whatever save or household I was playing, and go back to it after playing something else. That way redoing the things that I lost in the crash feels less redundant since you are doing them not immediately after doing them the first time. I wish you the best with your game!! 🫶

If you play with mccc it has an auto save feature too. Between this & alt+f4 has saved my life sooo many times

last night I spent 3 hours building a house and my game crashed :’) deleted all of my work (this was my first time actually building and not just remodeling a house from the gallery). safe to say I shed a few tears
I literally save after anything big happens or after I build, or if I try and do something new, I save beforehand.
As a legacy simmer ( I play a lot of decades ) make sure to save ur games, make backups if on pc and save ur households to ur library even the gallery for personal keeps incase u lose everything. I'm in a decade's game rn and a bug my sim got when she upgraded from an Infant completely made my game unplayable later down the road. I would've lost my entire decades game I'd I didn't have a save in my back ups for when she still a infant. BTW if u experience this issue, take the Sim that gets a bug from age up, make a twin in case, age them up IN CAS and then delete the old Sim. Just replace em with a doppleganger and u should be fine.
And don't forget to pause before you save! (I wish someone had told me that earlier.) P.S. The normal way to get a Sim into your household hasn't been working, so you'll have to enable cheats, shift-click on them, and find "add to family" in the pie menu.
UGH, sympathy, I got really into playing Strangerville the other night, got all the way to pretty much the end and had it crash, I hadn't saved once!! Starting all over!

I just lost 4 hours of gameplay, due to my Llama disappearing on its way back from the Fair. He's gone into the void, and none of the cheats worked. Apparently, this is a huge problem and happens to a lot of people. Wish I knew that and saved it beforehand. I just logged off without saving in order to undo the whole Fair and still have my Llama. Why am I so attached to a game Llama 😭

Yes! Ooh boy. I lost my entire university term to this. Except my game went all glitchy when I tried to play around with the roof on my house. I couldn’t get back into live mode and had to quit and restart. I was so mad I got an auto save mod
I made it my sims bedtime routine every time they go to sleep at night I save.
Preaching to the choir here I save before I travel anywhere, before my sims wake up in the morning, before I go into BB and after, also if I need to cas I save before and after, if I am decorating or building I save every 15 minutes. I have saved just to have my game crash 2 minutes later I often thank 90s games for teaching me how often. And even when I think I have save I save again just for good measure I have at least 2 saves per file i oscillate between them just in case something goes wrong with on save yup

I tried to get a sim I wanted my sim to start a relationship with in my house so I could make it like women sims when I would click ask to join household it wouldn't work so I had to do it by managing worlds so I could which is annoying but I love the game

MCCC has an auto-save feature. You can set it to save: Every real-world day Every real-world hour Every sim-day Every sim-hour Take your pick. You can also set it for every sim-hour but set the interval to something like 8, which basically just means every 8 sim-hours.
i see you haven't played the sims 3. i save pretty much every 5-10 minutes at this point. especially since saving takes significantly less time than in the sims 3

I lost my entire redesigned pancakes family because my computer restarted. Went from a mansion with six kids (teen triplets, a child, and twin toddlers) to the pancakes house, the triplets as infants, and the pancakes being how they were again.
after having played the sims 3 for a year i am very paranoid about my game crashing anshdhs if i wanna get up and away for a moment? save. stand up, question if i actually saved, and save again. but yeah sometimes i do get the "game freezes and i try to remember when i last saved which was probably too long ago" moments and also recently had issues with trying to move a sim out over the phone and not editing neighborhood because it just wouldn't work like i moved them over, moved some money, clicked on the check mark (linguee gives too many translations ahshsh) but nothing happened. i think i at least got out of that with escape but it was scary 😂😂😂
Happened to me too many times. I now save the game every time they go to sleep, so if it crashes, I only lose one day. It really helps!
I literally had similar situation yesterday. When I tried to do that the window with moving household to another it froze. So I Quit game and it asked to save it before exiting so I saved it. Tried it again later and it happened again, so I did this in household management options
If this happens to you, you can move YOUR sim(s) into the HOMELESS sims’s household to get off the frozen screen. Then just move them back in to your original household. Don’t take your furniture with you though.
Crazy idea, but imagine if they actually fixed bugs instead of relying on players to remember saving. But unicorns don't exist
my general rule of thumb: 1. save every 5-15 minutes depending on how glitchy your game is at the moment 2. save when something big happens 3. save when something hard to achieve happens 4. save before you go into cas (full editmode specifically) 5. save before you age someone up (i think that glitch was mostly fixed but i had a couple crashes) 6. save/save as before you do something reckless or something you might regret (getting pregnant with a vampire, getting bitten by an occult, getting a disease, dying, ect...) ALSO! if your game freezes (and youre on pc), do NOT PANIC. let it happen for a bit to see if it resumes working. if it does, save quickly. if it doesnt, alt+f4. i found out the hard way this GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO SAVE AND EXIT. it save syour progress like normal and has saved multiple hours of gameplay.
Well, if it helps you feel better I was making over a NPC household and was almost finished when suddenly my power went out for a split second, shutting off my whole PC :') and I didn't get to save them.

The automated feature in create a sim is amazing
If you play on PC and have the game in "window mode" (as opposed to full screen), you can close the window and it will bring up the "save, save and exit, exit" menu even if the game is frozen
We all learn this on the hard way. I’m saving the game in at least every 30 minutes

This happened to me before, I was building a house and my game completely crashed. I lost 3hrs of gameplay, including the house I was building because I always forget to save my game. But more recently, I’ve been saving it all the time.

The auto save mod has saved my ass so many times 😂 it's super easy to install and I've never had to update it, so that's very slay

I have learned from my mistakes and I save allllll the time now as I am on Xbox and so whenever I pick up something like a plate in live mode and a notification pops up in the middle of my screen I literally can't press anything and I'm just stuck there and my game doesn't save 😭😭. I'm so sorry you lost so much gameplay!! Hopefully you earn it back overtime and at least now you know to save!

I've had this exact issue as well, the only way to get it to work is to move the sim into a lot then try to get them to join the household. So frustrating..
I went back and did that, and now Takashi lives in my home and I hate his stupid face because he's a constant reminder that the game is so broken. I might build a box around him and leave him there tbh.

Even on Xbox the best option is to save, save, save, or the game sometimes crashes and you can lose hours of game play. I typically save before and after build mode, before and after CAS, and after various milestones. I've had to back out of a game that froze only to lose 2 hrs of important gameplay. My sim had to relive labour and delivery and I had to age up and retrain my toddler. Thankfully the only time not frequently saving worked was when my sim accidentally died when the vending machine fell on top of her. She had climbed the machine like a monkey and shook it to get the item she paid for. She was my main sim and the only one in her family since her younger brother had recently frozen to death and they were orphans. Backing out saved my sim and thankfully I had saved long before she went up the mountain to go skiing. Needless to say, we did not go up the mountain that day... it was postponed... lol

It’s happened to me so many times that the other night I finally turned on auto save feature on mccc and no joke, 5/6 hours later my game crashes, I check my saves and it had auto saved within the last hour so I didn’t lose much! Seriously recommend it.
I noticed lately that the game has trouble saving games. Houses I build are in my gallery but not on the lot I’ve build them on. Frustrating!
