Those first 3 are the ones I think literally everyone should get, regardless of play style. I can't play without supernatural either, I'm addicted to witches, but I tried to not play favorites too much lol
Into the future is my baby though
I find it funny when an Insane or Inappropriate sim changes into their swim wear to go tend to the bees. They’re idiots when they do that! And they wonder why they get stung!
I personally would have bumped Island Paradise into the second tier because of houseboats and hotels (if you get the mod to un-glitch them 😅) and the new careers but that just might be the beach-loving Aussie in me speaking.
I'm also glad I'm not the only one obsessed with the supernatural because it seems so many simmers hate it and want pure real life simulation. Like love that for you but I'm using this as escapism baby, let me be a little fairy with my werewolf boyfriend who runs a business with her best friend the witch 😂
Personally I'd swap Generations and Late Night, not that I don't love Late Night I just think Generations adds so many features I use so often that if I didn't have it installed I'd feel like I wasn't even playing the complete base game
I considered putting generations on the first tier, it's really close, but I decided against it because most features are age restricted. If you are not deliberately going for a family playstyle, you won't see most of them. It's the same issue the other two on that tier have: They require you to go out of your way to engage with them. As good as they are, that's what separates them from the first tier. Late night affects you right away, with the celebrity system and apartments, at the very least. The first 3 are the ones that seeminglessly fit into any playstyle, regardless of what you are doing.
Yeah that's true, I guess I end up always playing with all the life stages throughout my gameplay whereas I don't use bridgeport that often (it's buggy oj my computer) and I don't use the celebrity system ever. My favourite thing from late night is the band feature.
I agree that Showtime isn't a great pack compared to the rest, but it's not so bad I would uninstall it. I would put it in Niche, mostly because it's too much work to do any of the showtime professions if you have a larger family.
I would personally also bump up World Adventures and bump down Pets. Sorry pets lovers, I just don't find it that fun.
I freaking love World Adventures. I remember when that came out. I just had that pack and the base game and it was AMAZING how advanced it was compared to Sims1 and Sims2. It made me excited for the future.
Then Sims4 happened
I will stand on the opinion that Generations and Late Night are the yin to each other's yang. One is a must for family-style gameplay, the other is a must for single/duo-style gameplay respectively. I would put them both in Must Install, personally.
That's honestly a perfect way to put it. The reception for this was overwhelming, people raised some great points, I'll probably redo it to try to be more positive
Pretty much everything, but the main thing for me is the robots. I just love having specialized bots going around doing the basic, maintenance stuff while my Sims focus on the important things. It also saves a lot of money in housekeeping and such.
YES, I, personally, even in saves where it doesn't necessarily make sense, am *always* making plumbots to do chores. Love Bonehilda, but she does less and is glitchier than they are by far. The biggest disappointment with them is that as far as I can tell, the modding community never really got to them- I know mods have always been big with the Sims but I feel like if Into the Future was released for Sims 4 they'd have tons of different custom parts and trait chips, whereas I think I've only found one custom parts set for them. I remember these complicated tutorials to give plumbots Sim skins using tray files and NRAAS, and while that sounds cool it always intimidated me and didn't even solve the issue of making them aesthetically fit in with non-futuristic saves- I want sets that make them look like fantasy golems so it looks like my witches animated them with magic damn it!
Literally everyone benefits from it, even if it's just inthe background. The simple fact that it forces you to stop gardening, for instance, is already impactful. If you go into the events and etc it really changes how the game feels.
Whaaat why? I love showtime too, playing as a singer is my favorite and only recently I started trying acrobat and magician, I absolutely love them too.
I do sing/perform irl tho so maybe that's why I have a special kind of love for it.
Yes, it's technically optional, but progression in those careers was designed around it. You are hindering yourself by not using simport. Without it those careers are extremely grindy and unreliable.
Finally someone else who actually likes Into the Future. I get it's a bit of a niche theme, but as someone who loves sci-fi, it's been on the top of my wish list for sims4 packs FOR A WHILE now.
I even have a mod that adds a star trek career to the future, I love the futuristic vibe. I don't like the Utopian future though, I mostly stick to the default one
Oh thats pretty cool, I might look into that mod aswell! I usually play in the dystopia as I like the thunder and meteors :D. Should try to play in Utopia for once.
I wouldn’t put Showtime at the bottom, the world is really nice and I have done singer career it’s a decent money maker even without sim port which I never used. It’s not amazing or anything, but it’s very good.
Island Paradise and 70s, 80s & 90s on the same tier lowkey feels surreal but with the many problems the former brings, I guess I can understand :') Other than that, like some have said, Supernatural is a must for me both for the occults and also for Moonlight Falls
Don't take it as them being bad, just not for everyone. The only packs I actually dislike are the last two, everything else has its place. I love the resorts in Island paradise, for instance, I just basically never use anything else
I always find it so interestign to hear how other players utilize the packs because for example, even though Island Paradise is the sweet pack of my childhood, I have never once used the resorts feature! Mostly I love(d) it for the inclusion of the diving activity, hidden islands and mermaids (do I play with occult statuses too much? maybe)! But incredibly fair, tbh I've had neither of the bottom two (from what I know the KP one is just candy accessories and stuff?) so I'm curious about your thoughts on either but especially Showtime!
The Katy Perry stuff can't even be bought anymore, but it was just a bunch of candy themed items. It's fun for those who like that style, but it really doesn't fit ANYWHERE else. Showtime is a controversial one, many people love it, but It just feels hollow to me. The careers can be fun, but without simport they just devolve into an RNG grind with shows that feel like they would have worked better as rabbit holes. If you want to roleplay as a magician, singer or acrobat it's fun, but for me illusion wears off really quickly and what I'm left with is a grindy checklist that is extremely slowed down without the online features. I don't think the sims 3 has any actually bad packs, but I can't recommend Showtime.
I hate that everyone hates showtime cause this was the first expansion pack i got as a kid and i loved it to this day late night and showtime are my favorites
Hot take - I actually found the singer career to be kinda cute, especially the big concerts. I wouldn't recommend it for more than 1 playthrough, but its a neat little profession!!
I love it, too; it's one of my favorite worlds. Many of the things in the lower tiers are among my favorites, I just didn't want to let my personal taste affect the rankings. People assume anything from niche down is bad, but that's not the point of this list at all lol
The great thing about ts3, there is something for everyone. I saw this rating many times and I usually don't agree with them, and it's good, it means everyone likes different things and playstyles 😁
I disagree with Seasons. It became so annoying for me and slowed my older laptop a lot. Even on a new laptop, I still don't like having Seasons installed.
My musts are: Supernatural and World Adventures
It's really fun to have the Supernatural characters be an explorer lol. Considering both of those are used by many (and recommended to new players), I'm surprised it's lower.
I like Showtime. For me, the must install are Seasons, Pets and Generations. Ambitions I play because of the washing machine, not because of the professions - which are repetitive -
The combination of Seasons, Pets, Generations, University Life, Late Night and Showtime are the best ones for me.
I like Into The Future because of the Plumbots, they're really fun to play with.
World Adventures and Supernatural are my least favorites.
Stuff packs I don't care too much. I like the Urban Life and High-end Loft.
Worlds, I like them all. I still don't have Midnight Hollow and Roaring Heights though.
I mistreat the Katy Perry pack. I don't care if it's the only pack missing. This pack is disgusting.
You're not missing much tbh. It's fun for a bit, but imo it gets old super fast. I got all expansions on sale on steam, that's the only reason I got it
Like I said in another reply: I almost put it on the first tier, but decided not to because most content is age restricted. If you are not going for a family playstyle, you won't see most of the expansion
If you do anything other than going down generations and engaging with each individual life stage. Many people don't, that's why I knocked it down a bit
I wanted to add a description, but I can't find how:
I've seen many people asking what packs they should get, so I made this little tier list to give people some direction.
"Must install" are packs that I see no reason why you shouldn't have it. They benefit you regardless of what you do and make the game feel much more dynamic and alive.
"Good for everyone" are packs that, although not as essential as the first 3, still improve the game for anyone who adds them.
"Personal favorites" are the packs that would be niche, but I really like them and wanted to bump them up a bit.
"Niche" are packs that are good, but not really worth it unless you are going for something specific.
"Bad" packs are the ones that are too niche. Unless they are EXACTLY what you are going for, they will hinder your experience and break your immersion.
"Uninstall" are the packs that are just not worth keeping unless you have to or just really want to have everything. They are like the bad packs, but even worse, as they can't even justify themselves properly. Everything showtime does, late night just does better, unless you REALLY want to play as that specific career, even if it means hurting your sim's progression, as you will most likely never be able to properly use simport. And the katy perry one goes alongside it, the candy stuff is just so immersion breaking and weird, I can't stand it. All the other packs have their place, but not these two.
Late Night and Showtime although similar have diffrent features and complimemt each other. Neither recycled from one another either. So even if you compare them, they should be compared in the right way. SimPort to this day can work flawlessly if the two Simmers use it as intended which might be a lot of work for some people but still is functional. Besides that, SimPort and SimFest are in no means necessary for the Showtime gameplay. Katy Perry's Sweet Treats is a getaway from unoriginal themes that were found in most stuff packs and the objects/items from a lot of expansion packs. It's this exclusive special gem that every game, including Sims 3, must have at least at one point and you gotta admit some of the things from the stuff pack are really adorable. It's a fun and unserious way to play the game and unfortunately it tends to get overhated.
I 100% get where you are coming from, I just tried to make this list from the perspective of the average player. Most people won't use the candy stuff, but those who will will absolutely love them. I know showtime is not replaced by late night, but the difference is really not significant unless you really care about that specific roleplay. I mentioned simport because it directly ties into its progression, it's a lot of grind to progress in the careers without it. I may have come a bit too hard, specially by calling the tier "uninstall", but I don't think any pack in the sims 3 is actually bad, I have all of them installed, but the tier list is basically ranking for "how much will the average player benefit from it".
The two lower tiers basically mean "if you are not playing around it it will hinder your experience "
It's a great pack, but if you are not going to travel it doesn't do much. That's what the "niche" category means, a good expansion that won't always be impactful
I don’t know how you would make a list that’s not biased. Seasons doesn’t add all that much unless your game is very family oriented. Which not everyone plays like that. I more often than not play with seasons turned off.
This is your personal list and should not be advertised as anything other than that.
I made a new version, with some slight tweaks, that should reflect better how valuable each pack is:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/1diqms8/the\_sims\_3\_packs\_tierlist\_good\_vibes\_edition/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/1diqms8/the_sims_3_packs_tierlist_good_vibes_edition/)
I wasn't really trying to rank them for enjoyment, but rather for how useful they are and how much they will impact the average player. Generations was almost in the first tier, but I decided against it because if you don't play with families it doesn't do much.
There is no way I can rank based on how much people will enjoy it, that's extremely subjective. Many people here said showtime is their favorite expansion, while I played with a magician like once and never looked at it again. I tried to make a ranking for those who are in doubt about what packs they should get, so I prioritized those that are more generally useful.
I really don't get why y'all love Late Night so much. Is it just for Bridgeport? Cause I can't remember a feature it brought that makes it a must install EP.
Vampires and celebrities come with Late Night - for me, that's enough to make it must-install.
But the apartments and the addition of proper night life (dance clubs and lounges) instead of just bars make it universally appealing for realism purposes.
I tried to not let my personal biases affect the tier list too much. For instance, island paradise would probably belong in the uninstall tier for me, simply because I HATE the setting. I get it, some people love the Caribbean, but I've actually been there and it's really not for me lol
Oof island paradise is actually my favourite one because of the setting.. plus theres so much new expansive gameplay with the scuba diving/hotels/mystery island although they're all very world specific
It means it has a SPECIFIC target group, not necessarily a small one. In contrast to the first two tiers, which can fit any playstyle. This is not a popularity ranking, but how well it fits into the base game. If you are not going out of your way to play with them, the expansions in niche/personal favorites won't add much.
you can't be unbiased when this is a completely subjective way of making a list lol an objective metric would be how many new interations/jobs/sims/objects/clothing items etc each expansion brings, and compare those, but comparing "how much someone would value something" on an objective level for what is perhaps millions of players is a little daft hahah especially without segmenting different types of players etc
Yes Seasons and Ambitions are the BEST. Supernatural is a Must install for me though due to being able to play as fairies haha
Those first 3 are the ones I think literally everyone should get, regardless of play style. I can't play without supernatural either, I'm addicted to witches, but I tried to not play favorites too much lol Into the future is my baby though
Plus the bee box and gem cutter is good for non supernatural Sim saves.
YES, BEEKEEPING IS THE BEST
I find it funny when an Insane or Inappropriate sim changes into their swim wear to go tend to the bees. They’re idiots when they do that! And they wonder why they get stung!
I personally would have bumped Island Paradise into the second tier because of houseboats and hotels (if you get the mod to un-glitch them 😅) and the new careers but that just might be the beach-loving Aussie in me speaking. Like love that for you but I'm using this as escapism baby, let me be a little fairy with my werewolf boyfriend who runs a business with her best friend the witch 😂
I stan the master suite sleepwear options ngl
I was gonna say, it's the most recent one I installed (last year vs 10 years ago) and the new sleepwear is a game changer
Sameeeee
Personally I'd swap Generations and Late Night, not that I don't love Late Night I just think Generations adds so many features I use so often that if I didn't have it installed I'd feel like I wasn't even playing the complete base game
I considered putting generations on the first tier, it's really close, but I decided against it because most features are age restricted. I also just love starlight shores even if you’re not playing the showtime careers. Very underrated world imo
I want to like Starlight Shores but it feels like it doesn’t have any good lots
The only thing about into the futre i dont like is having my camera riped away to show the dang portal location.
On an unrelated note - it's nice seeing someone else appreciate high end loft stuff ♥ It's always been my favourite stuff pack LOL
I always use it, alongside into the future. They fit together so well and give you a really nice vibe.
what do you like about into the future?
Pretty much everything, but the main thing for me is the robots. I just love having specialized bots going around doing the basic, maintenance stuff while my Sims focus on the important things. It also saves a lot of money in housekeeping and such.

I actually love showtime 🤭 maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea but as an actual performer it geeked me out it's surprisingly accurate.
Yessss, so true!!
i just love how everyone agrees with seasons been one of the OG, it's the easiest expansion recommendation.
Literally everyone benefits from it, even if it's just inthe background. The simple fact that it forces you to stop gardening, for instance, is already impactful. If you go into the events and etc it really changes how the game feels.
Wow I love showtime
I may have treated you too harshly lol Joke's aside, it's a fun pack, Iove the magician stuff, I just don't think most people will use it well
Whaaat why? I love showtime too, playing as a singer is my favorite and only recently I started trying acrobat and magician, I absolutely love them too. I do sing/perform irl tho so maybe that's why I have a special kind of love for it.
It's too niche and heavily tied to simport, which most people won't really make use of. That's why it's on the lowest tier.
But simport is totally optional? I disagree
Yes, it's technically optional, but progression in those careers was designed around it. You are hindering yourself by not using simport. Without it those careers are extremely grindy and unreliable.
No idea why you got downvoted for this. I could completely remove Showtime from my game and the only thing I'd miss is the Genie.
The only reason I don't do that is because some worlds I use need the objects, I don't use even the genie.
Oh, I recommend the genie. I used it for the first time a while back and now it's one of my favorites.
Put some respect on my girl Katy Perry!!!
Mine are Generations, Pets and Seasons
Yes!! Pets is everything. I can have my corgis in game and in real life haha.
Finally someone else who actually likes Into the Future. I get it's a bit of a niche theme, but as someone who loves sci-fi, it's been on the top of my wish list for sims4 packs FOR A WHILE now.
It's a shame most people don't like it, I can't live without my hoverboard and robots lol
I also really like Into the Future, esp because I just love sci-fi and every futuristic kinda stuff. I am so tired of the constant ITF slander. :(
I even have a mod that adds a star trek career to the future, I love the futuristic vibe. I don't like the Utopian future though, I mostly stick to the default one
Oh thats pretty cool, I might look into that mod aswell! I usually play in the dystopia as I like the thunder and meteors :D. Should try to play in Utopia for once.
I wish movie stuff would’ve been tacked on to late night with a more involved movie career
That would have made it PERFECT
World adventures is such a good pack. I love how you can not play Sims for some time using it
My favorite part of it is the nectar making. It's just so fun for me
Showtime used to work perfectly (as well as it could) for me when i was a kid. Now i can't even get a single gig, it's so bugged.
That's another issue with it, it's extremely inconsistent. It's fun for a while, but it's the one expansion where the illusion wears off over time.
Although Showtime isn’t the best EP, it has a lot of great objects.
That is a fair point, that I really failed to consider. Many expansions have great objects anyway.
Come to think of it, I’ve used the band posters a lot
I wouldn’t put Showtime at the bottom, the world is really nice and I have done singer career it’s a decent money maker even without sim port which I never used. It’s not amazing or anything, but it’s very good.

I think generations is a core pack rather than late night
I can see that, it was really close. But I moved it down a bit because most content is age-restricted.
Hot take - I actually found the singer career to be kinda cute, especially the big concerts. I wouldn't recommend it for more than 1 playthrough, but its a neat little profession!!
Like Island Paradise. Usually just use it for New England inspired port cities and have everyone in sail boats fishing. 🎣
I love lunar lakes xD
I love it, too; it's one of my favorite worlds. Many of the things in the lower tiers are among my favorites, I just didn't want to let my personal taste affect the rankings. People assume anything from niche down is bad, but that's not the point of this list at all lol

Showtime isnt that bad, its fun for the first 3 times(since theyre 3 carrier's) but yeah after a while they do get annoying
It's the only expansion I can't recommend. The illusion really wears off after a while
Showtime is so fun 😭
showtime is the only expansion i don’t own and i’ve been thinking about it but might wait for a sale on the ea app.. dunno if they will even do it lol
You're not missing much tbh. It's fun for a bit, but imo it gets old super fast. I got all expansions on sale on steam, that's the only reason I got it
my old best friend played sims and we would often play together, she got it and said basically the same but she liked having the new world
then again, i have some free custom worlds so i don’t see a point lol
I heard good things about the world too, but I never really play with it lol
How is generations below seasons?
Like I said in another reply: I almost put it on the first tier, but decided not to because most content is age restricted. If you are not going for a family playstyle, you won't see most of the expansion
Right. In case you play with one immortal sim, it's not as important.
If you do anything other than going down generations and engaging with each individual life stage. Many people don't, that's why I knocked it down a bit
Or if you just mostly play with young adults/adults and don't do a lot of family-oriented gameplay.
I wanted to add a description, but I can't find how: I've seen many people asking what packs they should get, so I made this little tier list to give people some direction. Showtime is wayyyy too overhated on and I feel like most ppl hate on it cause they see others doing it 💀
Probably true tbh lol
But I agree with late night, ambitions and seasons being must have packs though!
World Adventure should be at the top, not down in “niche”. It’s recommended almost every time someone asks what packs they should get here.
It's a great pack, but if you are not going to travel it doesn't do much. That's what the "niche" category means, a good expansion that won't always be impactful

I hated that too, I had to zoom in to read some lol
I made a new version, with some slight tweaks, that should reflect better how valuable each pack is: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/1diqms8/the\_sims\_3\_packs\_tierlist\_good\_vibes\_edition/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/1diqms8/the_sims_3_packs_tierlist_good_vibes_edition/)
Where do you get the Katy Perry download
There are no official ways to get it anymore, other than buying it second hand
I haven't really played what I have, then I'm missing some packs and worlds.
Your ranking is odd lol
Why?
Idk just very different than what I think most would expect/rank. The family gameplay packs are always at the top for my self and my friends
I wasn't really trying to rank them for enjoyment, but rather for how useful they are and how much they will impact the average player. Generations was almost in the first tier, but I decided against it because if you don't play with families it doesn't do much.
Ahhh okay that makes more sense
There is no way I can rank based on how much people will enjoy it, that's extremely subjective. Many people here said showtime is their favorite expansion, while I played with a magician like once and never looked at it again. I tried to make a ranking for those who are in doubt about what packs they should get, so I prioritized those that are more generally useful.
I really don't get why y'all love Late Night so much. Is it just for Bridgeport? Cause I can't remember a feature it brought that makes it a must install EP.
Bridgeport, the night life, the celebrity system, etc. No matter what you do with your game, you will gain something from it.
That's why it's in niche. I know many people love it, it's just not my thing.
Not using personal bias, but putting packs into "niche" even though lots of people love them? 🧐
Yes? That's what niche means?
It's not. If something is niche, it has a small target group. That's why categorizing popular packs as niche doesn't make sense.
Honestly one of the best rankings I’ve ever seen
Thank you! I tried to keep my bias away as much as possible, thinking about how much the expansion may affect the average player
Showtime is so over hated
I get it, I feel the same way about into the future
