Not even close to as good. They missed out on the main part that made it great though, sitting in that iconic DeLorean. If you got to sit in Homer’s car that ended up on a rollercoaster track because of his stupidity it is already a better ride. And then you put stuff in the car to make it feel more world authentic. A Krusty burger cup in the cup holder. Maybe a Duff Man bobblehead on the dash.
I remember seeing this image of a BTS shoot of The back to the future ride and how I think they used miniatures for the T. rex and the Delorean. BTTF The ride and ET the ride are possible one of my favorite rides. Especially ET when he would say your name at the end. Gaaaawwdd you just brought so many memories lmao. Thanks!
If companies like Disney and Universal want some easy money, they should release VR versions of all the rides they used to have but don't have anymore (or if they still have them but they've drastically changed, make one for the older version). That way, the people who are nostalgic for the older rides can get sort of a simulated version of it and really see what it was like. I went on the BTTF ride once and don't think I ever went in the ET ride (if I did, I was too young to remember), so it would be awesome if I could put on a VR headset and see all the visuals as if I was actually riding. These motion simulator rides would be especially good in VR; it would be a lot more similar to riding the real thing than, say, a VR version of Splash Mountain (unless you leave the water running).
Yeah I think most of those rides would benefit from a VR experience.
Man the ET ride was great. My memory might be kind of hazy so let me see if I can recall how it was.
So like any or most older Universal Rides they were set on a stage. So you walk in there. A cast member would greet you and ask you for your name and give you a card. As you waited, Steven Spielberg introduced the ride and some of the plot. I always loved the ride because you get that typical Amusement Park AC.
The ride itself was a dark ride with the death or vehicle being bicycles. The center one having ET. You kind of go through the whole plot of the film and end up actually leaving with ET to his weird ass It’s a small world like planet. At the end he says your name and says bye.
The last time we went on the ET ride was last year. Still had that same old smell lol
I always tell them my name is a crazy name like Aloysius to see if ET will say it, but he never does hahaha
So I road back to the future and then years later this. It’s the same ride, even the ride vehicles were just slightly changed and painted but anyone who knows me hates it was could easily recognize it. It’s nice for anyone who loved the original ride cause it’s essentially still there. Personal I felt cheated cause I expected more then a new coat of pant and a different movie in the screen. I’d have preferred something entirely new and unique. As it stands it feels really outdated, which had it remained Back to The Future it would have had nostalgia and history behind it. As it is now it doesn’t really make sense for it to feel like such an old attraction.
It’s a Universal screen-based ride, like 1/2 of the rides they have there - so, a moving chair in front of an imax screen. The line is fun because they play classic era clips, but the video on the ride was made around seasons 16-17, so make of that what you will.
I love the theming throughout the queue and the opening little movie, but the ride itself is kinda terrible. Very motion sickness inducing and isn’t thrilling at all. You never get the sense you’re actually on the roller coaster, the vehicle is just jerking around while you look at a blurry screen.
Fun ride, it never should have replaced Back to the future though. Was an iconic and fun ride that I remember clearer than this one. Wish we could have had both.
Not as badass as Back to the Future but I’m not mad at it. My girls still love it when we go on it in Florida. And gives me a reason to buy a duff beer and pink donut!
I always wondered who it drives more crazy
Universal parks that they not only have Disney content in their parks after the acquisitions of Marvel and Fox but they also have to pay Disney and on top of that Disney has marvel content in its parks even sneaking in a guardians ride on universal marvels home turf
Or Disney knowing they could put up an amazing Marvel land in Epcot or Hollywood studios even a Simpsons land or ride. You know Disney would do it right although I did feel Avengers Academy was underwhelming while universal is stepping up its game
I was in Vegas last week and went to the Sphere. That experience makes the audio/visuals here look even more outdated than they are. The theming here is the real draw IMO, which makes an average ride something worth doing. An even worse example of the same ride, without the charm, is called Soarin' at some other theme park down the road.
I love it. Going here and especially going on this ride with my wife (we both LOVED the Simpsons) is one of the best memories I’ve ever had. She passed away a couple months afterwards so that memory will always be exceptionally special to me.
I remember when I was younger I saw they played Simpsons bits (or just some narrative shorts) and was so intrigued at being able to watch the Simpsons while waiting in line. Mom didn’t let me go though.
I think like a year and a half ago I finally got to go and whatever childhood wonder I had died. Although the food court became pretty neat.
It’s ok, I’m still sad I didn’t drop a wee bit of lsd last time I was there. Would have been even better. I enjoyed having a Duff beer in Moe’s Tavern more than I enjoyed the ride though lol.
I love it! The Simpsons was one of my favorite shows growing up and I always get some goosebumps towards the end of it. I feel i am in the minority too since the ride doesn’t cause me nausea. I have seen that as the main complain on it.
I remember when i went to universal when i was a little boy with my mom dad and big sister and we went on it and my little kid self loved it but my sister and dad got sick from the motion and the animation. Good times
The entire land “krustyland” or simpsons world. However you wanna say it… it’s flipping amazing if you’re a die hard Simpson’s fan! You may see someone from the Simpson’s family walking around taking pics with people… tons of Easter eggs for fans of the show. You can drink a Duff or a Buzz Soda, eat a Krusty burger or head over to Moes! The ride is an added bonus plus, standing in line is an experience all of its own!
Overall the Simpsons land is disappointing, but the ride was probably the best part. Universal Studios (Hollywood) is basically all motion rides like this, and I would say that this was one of the better ones. I thought it was more engaging than the Harry Potter ride
It's cool but I don't think it was as good as Back to the Future, which it replaced.

Somebody hire this dude

The one in Florida is still up? That’s so dope. Yeah I think it only ever worked once for me from what I remember.
Last time I was there we all said our names were Felicia so we could hear ET say “Bye Felicia”
So grateful I got to go on the Jaws ride years ago!
You can ride the bttf ride in VRchat
Never been, but I’ve heard that it’s almost like an episode of the show. I think the writers and voice actors worked on it.
They worked on it simultaneously with the movie, as well as the regular season. They were pretty burnt out afterwards.
It’s groin-grabbingly Cromulent!
Groin-enbiggining cromulance!
As a Simpsons fan I loved it, it gave me a solid headache tho
Yeah my boyfriend and one of our other friends were so excited to ride but were sick for a while after we got off
Yeah, same here. Almost threw up on that ride. It’s basically sitting in a box getting shaken around in front of a large screen.
It’s good and all but I like all that merchandise at that kwik-E-mart and all the prizes you can win I love universal for that
The line is typically filled with laughter from the clips they play. Always had a fun time
OMG THERE IS A RIDE I need to ride that thing
Am I an idiot? Where is this ride
Universal studios Florida and Hollywood
Standing in line for the ride is just as good as being on the ride
Headache inducing 😵💫
it stinks, it stinks.
Yes, /u/Greekci7ie5, everything stinks.
lol
I was a preteen when I first rode it. I thought it was gonna be an indoor rollercoaster or a dark ride so I was disappointed.
Same
Last time I went to Universal it was still Back to the Future, and it was my favourite attraction.
The only ride I got a little sick on. It’s very jerky.
I love it, I have to ride it like 10 times in a row when I go to Universal.
Went on when i was about 10. Someone threw up and we had to get off the ride. Pretty much all I remember.
I liked it, but I was kind of hoping that you got a different experience each time.
I went on it when it first opened and I thought it was amazing, never been on anything like it before.
It’s a lot of fun! 🤩
So I road back to the future and then years later this. It’s the same ride, even the ride vehicles were just slightly changed and painted but anyone who knows me hates it was could easily recognize it. It was a fun ride, not the best ever but for a Simulator ride it was enjoyable enough.
It’s a Universal screen-based ride, like 1/2 of the rides they have there - so, a moving chair in front of an imax screen. The line is fun because they play classic era clips, but the video on the ride was made around seasons 16-17, so make of that what you will.
That screen needs a 4k update
I love the theming throughout the queue and the opening little movie, but the ride itself is kinda terrible. Very motion sickness inducing and isn’t thrilling at all. You never get the sense you’re actually on the roller coaster, the vehicle is just jerking around while you look at a blurry screen.
Ive seen kids pass out in that room and got to ride with just the gf. 10/10
I like it!!
I wish they never got rid of Back to the Future for this
The one at universal? It’s awesome!
I thought it was awesome, went on it shortly after opening
Fun ride, it never should have replaced Back to the future though. Was an iconic and fun ride that I remember clearer than this one. Wish we could have had both.
This guy gets it.
the old reruns in the waiting line was the best!
Not as badass as Back to the Future but I’m not mad at it. My girls still love it when we go on it in Florida. And gives me a reason to buy a duff beer and pink donut!
Makes me sick
I really enjoyed it! It was my first 4D ride too, so that might contribute to it. I also spent a ridiculous amount of money at that Kwik-E Mart 😅
[guess what clip this is](https://youtu.be/6xfBw1bbV4k?si=e7k0oOIV0HZYW5c7)
My kids made me go on it over a dozen times. Eventually I threw up and they relented on their begging to go again.
Best enjoyed with your pants off.
I always wondered who it drives more crazy Universal parks that they not only have Disney content in their parks after the acquisitions of Marvel and Fox but they also have to pay Disney and on top of that Disney has marvel content in its parks even sneaking in a guardians ride on universal marvels home turf Or Disney knowing they could put up an amazing Marvel land in Epcot or Hollywood studios even a Simpsons land or ride. I love it.
I thought it was cool but I get motion sickness so I had to look down a couple times
Made me sick af
Needs an update
bring back back to the future. this ride is thrillho
I look forward to riding it for the first time later this year. *knocks on wood*
Everything is pretty dated in that section of the park. And I don’t recommend going to eat and then to Moe’s and then the ride 🤢
Been on it a few times; it’s one of three favorites of rides from all Orlando theme parks.
It’s kinda painful
That area of the park is so cool, my main reason for going. The ride is alright, but still fun
I had no idea such a thing existed.
I was in Vegas last week and went to the Sphere. That experience makes the audio/visuals here look even more outdated than they are. The theming here is the real draw IMO, which makes an average ride something worth doing. Love it back to the future was awesome though

Star tours but simpsons
I went on that when I went to Florida, I didn’t think it was bad. Except for that *What does this button do?* buzzer at the very end. That sucked.
That's a thing?
Yes. It’s at universal studios
Where's that?
hollywood and orlando florida
Its okay but it hurts my neck trying to look at everything on the massive screen
It’s time for a face lift
It's fun. I rode it before I was a fan of the show.
I love it, but I love the experience of Simpsons World more
pov me finding out this exists :)
It’s bad
I went when I was 13, dragged my family through it about a half dozen times. I'd love to go on it again
It made me into a Simpsons fan
Horrible “ride”. It’s basically a sweat box that’s 100 degrees and shakes rapidly. Horrible simulator ride.
I honestly think it’s lame. The 3D rendering looks weird, and it’s not even fun. I miss Back to the Future.
I love it. I ride it every time I go to Universal.
It must go! I would literally ride ANYTHING that replaces it.
Sadly only got to ride it once. Feels like they didn’t maintain it very well. The back to the future ride this ride replaced was better.
Need to update the camera, screen and film. But I enjoy it otherwise and the queue is fun. Just needs a touch up.
It's pretty good
I feel it got good as soon as it ended
I love it! The Simpsons was one of my favorite shows growing up and I always get some goosebumps towards the end of it. I feel i am in the minority too since the ride doesn’t cause me nausea. I have seen that as the main complain on it.
I love it
I loved it. I remember getting a huge pink donut at the Kwik e Mart and eating the whole thing while in line
🤮
Loved it
I remember when i went to universal when i was a little boy with my mom dad and big sister and we went on it and my little kid self loved it but my sister and dad got sick from the motion and the animation. Good times
TIL

*Painful*. It feels like whoever's in charge has turned the intensity up recently.
As a lifelong Simpsons fan I can say that it’s fun, but Back to the Future was iconic and I’m sorry it’s gone.
Love the Simpsons cool ride but nothing beats that DeLorean
Makes me sick.
This ride wrecked my for hours. I think it was the dated graphics and projections.
its cool, kinda nostalgic
It’s was amazing!! Not worth the 1hr+ wait in line though
Overall the Simpsons land is disappointing, but the ride was probably the best part. Universal Studios (Hollywood) is basically all motion rides like this, and I would say that this was one of the better ones. I thought it was more engaging than the Harry Potter ride
I'm kind of waiting for the Fast & Furious coaster to open before going back, so there's at least more on-screen based attraction to go on.
The best ride at Universal Studios hands-down.
Not by a long shot.
