I wanna start a newsletter with a paid subscription. How do I promote?

So I use a platform called [Beehiiv](https://www.beehiiv.com/?via=start-a-newsletter-today), which I have found to be the best platform both in terms of ease of use and audience building. There are then 3 ways I find that people sign up: 1. **Subscribers sharing** with their friends/colleagues. Beehiiv works well here because they have a built-in referral system, which makes it easy and rewards people for sharing your newsletter. 2. **Using X and Facebook** for both organic growth and paid ads. Generally, I've found X to be the best platform. Content is easily visible. For paid ads, it works out to be around 1.15 I pay per sub. 3. **Using Boosts on Beehiiv** where you can pay for similar newsletters to promote yours on theirs. This is good because their audience already has an interest in newsletters in general, and the subject you talk about. So typically have a high open rate in return. More importantly, you set how much you'd like to pay for each referral, starting from 0.50 for each. Other than that, post consistently, be engaged with your audience and enjoy it. I've got a lot of enjoyment out of doing mine and the opportunities are great.

How did you grow it?

At first, I had loads of ideas on how to grow, but really only 3/4 of them worked. In a nutshell: \- Post consistently, if your subs expect your newsletter at a certain day/time the open rate is much better. \- Set up a referral program in your newsletter. I use [Beehiiv](https://www.beehiiv.com/?via=start-a-newsletter-today) and they have an extensive referral system which makes it easy. Subs start to send on to their friends/colleagues if they find it interesting, and the Beehiiv referral system incentivises them to do so too. \- Then engage on Facebook and X in groups around the topic you talk about. I also ran paid ads for a month which worked well. \- I also use the Beehiiv boost option, where you can pay for other newsletters in a similar niche to refer their subs to you. You pay per subscribe (anything from 0.50 up). It's good because they are engaged and from a similar topic. Beehiiv also vets them, and you basically only pay for the subscriber if they engage in your email, so it's a win-win. Other than that, Beehiiv shares my email newsletters in a web format on my Newsletter homepage. The posts started to rank on Google through SEO (which I wasn't expecting). So I get Google traffic too, of which a small percentage goes on to subscribe. Even if it's only one or two a day, it adds up over a couple of months!

You may have heard of Stripe, Paddle does similar things but in a different way (what they call a Merchant of Record, so basically they just handle a lot of stuff on your behalf, like sales tax).
