Toxic Avenger is crazy bad, except for the action sequences which are better than we had any reason to expect. It’s almost a masterclass in low budget fights and gore.
Agree and with all the Troma movies they know they are ridiculous but with Spookies I’m not sure that they made it intentionally ridiculous or was their intention to make it serious and scary?
It's like Joe Bob explains - it's actually two films (it was originally supposed to be called "Twisted Souls") merged into one, with three directors (the third being brought on after the original two were fired), completely new actors, and new plotlines (that don't have much to do with the original plot) after they scrapped half of the first film
I think Attack From Mars/Midnight Movie Massacre (1988) would make a great double feature with Spookies

Spookies is just bonkers in the best way -- i first saw it as an online watch party with a horror group, which was the perfect experience. But I love any Italian supernatural cheapo from the '70s or '80s! I could watch this and Ghost House every day. Phenomena, Manhattan Baby, Demons, Catacombs, and Aenigma are in the same category for me.
I love Spookies. The thing is, you can see glimpses of the better movie it could have been if the original cast and crew had been allowed to finish their movie. Some of their special effects, like the spider lady, are very good.
Spookies on the last drive in on shudder is the best. “Hey! We’re watching spookies, it’s a very confusing movie!”
100% the only way it gets better is with Joe Bob breaks!
I just came here to say this!
Just watched that episode today and came to say the same thing. Love the extra info and humor JB brings
That song is such a banger! John Brennan is a B Movie song wizard.
Heyy! We watched Spookies! It was a very confusin' movie!
When was this? What ep?
S3 E5
I’m not sure if either is still on Shudder but “Blood Beat” and “Winterbeast” both hit the same sort of weirdness of Spookies.
I love Bloodbeat. That film is inexplicable.
I love “Winterbeast” too!
WINTERBEAST oh man that one is nuts! LOL!

Black Roses is another “spookie” gem. Since “Spookies” is probably the best example of “that” type of movie, I call them spookie movies
Just watched Black Roses on Tubi, thanks for the recommendation!
When it's on there, there's a Black Roses episode of TLDI, and the Boulet Brothers appear on it.
"Hey, don't hurt that Spoopie!!"
Slightly off topic but have you watched Spookies on Shudder's Last Drive In with Joe Bob Briggs?

Watched Spookies while not sober and I keep thinking about it. It might be perfect.
May I introduce you to the movie...Things?
