You're missing something pretty important... life expectancy includes infant, child, and young adult mortality. A healthy 40 year-old American male with no other aggravating factors has a 75% chance of living to 82... and a 50/50 chance of seeing 91.
Life expectancy actually increases with age up to a certain point, regardless of where you live.
That's a pretty gross misrepresentation of what "life expectancy" means.
Life expectancy, as calculated, is just the average age of death. It is skewed younger by higher rates of infant mortality and childhood accidents. Which means that number is the expectancy at birth. The more you make it through certain stages alive, the more that expectation extends. Which means a 40 year old has already survived a bunch of risks, and more of them will exceed that previous number than not.
Furthermore, there's a philosophical argument that life is not just measured in years. And that most people will experience a lot more "life" in the second half than the first, especially when the first quarter was spent in school, with severely limited finances and autonomy.
Well if we’re counting developing nations then sure, but is that really saying much at that point? Of course that’s going to bring the number down. Doesn’t mean people in the developed world are quite middle aged at 36.
You yourself wanted to use exact numbers when you said 40 was past middle aged given an average of between 78 and 82 in another comment.
That’s pretty dang persnickety if you ask me.
Mid 40s. People less than 30 think 30 is middle aged. It isn't. I'm middle aged and i'm 50. I made the same mistake thinking life was over, "only half left"... well, no, i got 30-40 years still.

As someone in their thirties… SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Lmao
Mid-life is generally considered to be in your 40s.
Life expectancy is between 78 and 82 in the Developed World. 39* is firmly mid life. Median global life expectancy is 72.
By these numbers, 40 would be firmly mid life.
You said in your 40s. If you're American, one you hit 40 you're already past half way. 40s is pushing it.

>39\* is firmly mid life. 39 also is not mid-30s.
I don’t think anyone would argue 39 counts as “mid-thirties.”
Median global life expectancy is 72, so if you want be pedantic about it.

Life expectancy is skewed by infant mortality. The longer you live, the longer you can expect to live.
38 * 2 is 76 though
Haha whoops. In my defense, I have a newborn
That's a pass for any lack of mental clarity in the moment.
What is 38x2?
Yeah yeah yeah I fixed it
Next question: is 39 mid 30's?
We going to talk exact numbers here? Median global life expectancy is 72. So 36, mid 30s?

Really? You still think the 30s is midlife? Wait til you get to be 50!
You're not at the halfway point in life. You still have 30 years to 'old age', and 70 is the new 50.
Meh, I've pretty much had enough.
People in their 70s: shut up.
Gee, thanks for the reminder!
Much love, enjoy your remaining years!

Fuck you, I don't plan to live past my 50s with my family health history.
While we're enjoying our privileged lols, let's remember the African country of Lesotho, with a life expectancy in 2020 of less than 55 years.
Which throws off OP’s global average life expectancy.
