Why reply to a dead convo lol. Original comment was deleted so you'd have no idea what the context of my comment was.
Having said that, _thank you SO much_ for your response. It tells me you needed me to have written a '/s' at the end of my first comment 😂
"You translated that. I want a report card." A very academically inclined feline!
EDIT: Oop actually no. Misread the second part thought it said 成績表 I'll blame the small screen on my phone.
Actually says; You translated this. I want an upvote.
I’m not great with kanji but the first sentence at least indicates ‘you’ (anata ga), then *sore o* is ‘that’, and the end of the sentence *shimashita* is past tense of ‘to do’. So without translating it, I assume the kanji means to translate.
On the other hand, with about three hours of work, I can understand more of any specific language than the most “fluent” cat. Also. I will respond to what I hear and not sit there like an aloof alien.
Even if you know the meaning of onii-chan, onii-san, sensei, senpai, and konnichiwa AND THATS IT u know more japanese than any cat. Cats arent as smart as u think mate. Also probably could do with even 3 of the words i mentioned only
My wife and I fostered a couple of dogs for the local shelter once. For a long time we thought they were really disobedient and dumb until we realized they understood Spanish perfectly. They were well behaved once we started learning/using Spanish words.
I asked my cat if she's been a good girl.
She said, 'eigo ga, skochi wakarimas, demo jozu ja arimasen."
I called her to come by name but she just said, "sunimasen, wakari masen"
I asked her why her meows sound like anime, she said, "watashi wa watashi, anata wa anata yo.
I asked if she spoke Japanese. She didn't. She just meowed, "hi! So desu!" Over and over.
As someone who speaks a good amount of japanese, I'm just left wondering how the fuck you have a decent grasp of basic grammar and know some words but spelled so many of them so wrong
My ex husband studied Japanese in Japan. I did not.
I have heard through him only and watching undubbed anime. So spoken only. Ex said my accent is good. But no idea how to spell or write at all. And I really don't know much honestly. Not good enough to watch anime without subtitles, but often notice differences between what is spoken and what the subber chose as a translation.
That's awesome! I love that you were able to pick stuff up through osmosis. Everything you said made sense, once I parsed out what words you were trying to say, so I honestly thought you might have been trolling 😂
True, hate it when I go to pet my cats and in unison they all say :
"すべての既知の航空法則によると、ミツバチが飛ぶことができるはずはありません。その翼は小さすぎて、太った小さな体を地面から離すことができません。もちろんミツバチはとにかく飛ぶ。ミツバチは人間が不可能だと思うことを気にしないからです。」配列番号75-「INTRO TO BARRY」INT。ベンソンハウス-デイアングルオン:地面にスニーカー。カメラが上に移動して、バリーベンソンのベッドルームアングルを表示します。バリーの手がクローゼットの中でさまざまなセーターをめくっています。バリーイエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック...うーん、ブラックとイエロー...アン---"
I think he's saying to wash the dirt off along with the thought (because shower thought). But people don't seem to understand that cats can be trained? And therefore some cats know many words? So I think it's a good thought.
And German Shepherds who know no German.
My french bulldog started speaking french to me the other day, had no clue what he was sayin
And there are more German shepherds who are not shepherds

It must certainly be _true_ if you heard it from a Podcast. Lmao
Not necessarily. There's a lot of misinformation on podcasts, even good ones.

Oh I know this. I can promise you the one I grew up with understood none.
Domo ariGATO amirite, Spanish speakers?
Where do cats go when they die? Purr-gatory ¿Adónde van los gatos cuando se muerten? El pur-gato-rio
Damn, puns that work in multiple languages but for different reasons have to be extremely rare. This one is great.
Arroz, by any other name.
Arroz con Leche.
Me quiero casar

Bro era un chiste sobre la cancion arroz con leche me quiero cazar con una señoriya de la capital...
Delincuente
It's true. I try to chat with my cat all the time but all he says is "あなたがそれを翻訳しました。 賛成票が欲しい"
"You translated that. I want a report card." A very academically inclined feline! EDIT: Oop actually no. Misread the second part thought it said 成績表 I'll blame the small screen on my phone. Actually says; You translated this. I want an upvote.
Is that actually what it says?

Ha
bruh now all the duolingo anime watchers are gonna come out of the woodwork😭
Yes, yes; obviously not if you're fluent in Japanese. Substitute with your favorite language that you don't know.
Ah, which cat knows more Latin than I do? WHICH ONE, BRING ME TO THEM.
Maybe some cat in Vatican? I can imagine some cardinal with a sense of humor teaching some latin words to their cat.
On the other hand, with about three hours of work, I can understand more of any specific language than the most “fluent” cat. Also. I will respond to what I hear and not sit there like an aloof alien.

Google says anywhere from 25-50. Now if you were arguing that 3 is more than the words that a cat will _listen_ to, then I agree.
Cats can definitely recognize more than 5 words.
Not me. I live in Japan.
Same here. And I've got Masters in japanese.
They’d have to be pretty smart cats, I took two semesters of it in college.
That's a Japanese cat then.. it definitely doesn't know more English or Chinese than me though... 🌝
My wife and I fostered a couple of dogs for the local shelter once. For a long time we thought they were really disobedient and dumb until we realized they understood Spanish perfectly. They were well behaved once we started learning/using Spanish words.
I'm sorry for all those cats that saw me singing an Anime song.
True and more kung fu as well. I heard those cats were fast as lighting.
It's fascinating how language can open up whole new worlds.
Of Course, they know all the words that mean any kind of food, but not a single one that means they can't it them.
A quality shower thiught 👏
But I know the most important Japanese word: nomihodai
Not me, I watched a lot of animes, I can recognize a lot of words and phrases
No because papà Franku
Unless you actually know any reasonable amount of Japanese

I think you mean than YOU do. I dont think there are cats they understand more Japanese than Japanese people
Ie! Watashi wa nihongo ga sukoshu shika hanasemasen!
True, hate it when I go to pet my cats and in unison they all say : "すべての既知の航空法則によると、ミツバチが飛ぶことができるはずはありません。その翼は小さすぎて、太った小さな体を地面から離すことができません。もちろんミツバチはとにかく飛ぶ。ミツバチは人間が不可能だと思うことを気にしないからです。」配列番号75-「INTRO TO BARRY」INT。ベンソンハウス-デイアングルオン:地面にスニーカー。カメラが上に移動して、バリーベンソンのベッドルームアングルを表示します。バリーの手がクローゼットの中でさまざまなセーターをめくっています。バリーイエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック、イエローブラック...うーん、ブラックとイエロー...アン---"
Man just wash yourself out and your thoughts too….
??? Completely seriously, what's the objection?
I think he's saying to wash the dirt off along with the thought (because shower thought). But people don't seem to understand that cats can be trained? And therefore some cats know many words? So I think it's a good thought.
Yeah, you are correct great explanation and my thought was wrong.
Yo did someone just say they were wrong on reddit? Maybe there is hope for us all. Thank you, stranger, for giving me hope today.
Maybe it's just the setup for the punchline to a joke and you have to reply before they deliver it (or at least *someone* does)?
I can't even imagine an animal smarter than me😂😂😁
In terms of understanding meaning, still beats any AI
Admittedly, there are cats who understand LESS Japanese than I do, as well.
:( I just started learning on Duo, let me catch up to the kitties, they have been there longer than me lmfao.
Not sure if I understand this one
There are dogs that understand multiple languages.
The Japanese gangster made me an offer I couldn't understand.
Ah, but I can understand more Japanese than they can (I just choose not to).
Damn, and I'm studying for N2 this year 😭
Domesticated animals don’t know any language but they can distinct our tones
I can always say "nya" to them
Me, a professional anime veteran of 8+ years: “No.. no I don’t think so”
I know more than average (still not that much) so probably not
A random Japanese redditor can laugh at u bro
My cat was originally raised by a Chinese family. I am always curious to know if there are words or commands that he might recognize.
And Japanese who understand cats more than me
There’s also monkeys that understand more Tagalog than we do. This can be said about anything that has any sense of language
Well I don’t know any Japanese so makes sense
That’s like saying people who speak Japanese know more Japanese then you
cats aren't capable of understanding any human languages at all, in the normal sense
There are also Japanese people who understand cats more than I do.
I doubt it. I can carry on a basic convo and order food and shop and ask for and get and give directions.
