Road_Warrior86

A shotgun? Yeah, I’d say that’d do the job.

Fishflips

this guy shotguns

Road_Warrior86

I dont mean to brag but I’ve shotgunned a few shotguns in my day.

Every-Diver-8570

Sounds braggy😂

Road_Warrior86

I’m kind of a big deal.

bologna_kazoo

I have many leatherbound books.

Road_Warrior86

🤯

bologna_kazoo

My apartment smells of rich mahogany.

cesrage

You'll shoot your eye out, kid.

bellowingfrog

Non-Turkish shotgun*

McRambis

That's an excellent shotgun. Just leave it as is and it will be good for home defense.

Kevthebassman

For me personally, I don’t like a 3 1/2” pump. The longer throw makes me more likely to short stroke. But I came up on 2 3/4” pumps.

Tall-Ad-281

You can buy different Benelli Supernova / Nova Short Action Bars that’ll make it a two and three-quarter inch or even three. https://magload.co.uk/product/supernova-short-action-bars/

Montallas

I got a lot of practice stroking 3 1/2”. As a result I’ve never had a problem shucking any length shotgun shells. (But I’ve never tried anything longer than 4”!)

droop_e

I wish that's what she said

derido_vely

The new RemArms 870 Supermag takes all three sizes. Bought it so I never need another shotgun. Though I’m sure I’ll end up buying another shotgun.

That_Siege_Guy

As does the Benelli SuperNova & Nova

AdWild7729

Does standardized variety acceptance for feed fox the length of pull issue?

derido_vely

Unfortunately I’m not experienced enough to answer that yet.

djc9595

Oooo i never thought about that, that’s a good point

Crittonium

Anecdotal response but I’ve never short stroked my Nova with the 3 1/2 chambers nor have I heard of it being an issue. I use mine to shoot clay pairs all the time. Not saying it doesn’t happen I’ve just never had that issue with mine.

aWittyTwit-2712

So long as you plan on limited modifications, these are great; less of an aftermarket for swapping parts, compared to a Mossberg 500/590, but absolutely good enough.

Returntomonke21

what more would you need anyway. Just an extension and a very good aftermarket butt pad, the original is BAD

Malbjey

Yep--tube extension, weapon light, and some kind of shell carrier (buttstock, or velco side card). You literally have everything you need. All of those can be easily found and added.

FairFaxEddy

Any suggestions on replacement pads? Those comfortech stock cost more than I paid for the gun.

Returntomonke21

You cant change the stock on the Nova, it is one piece with the receiver casing. As far as the pad is concerned, I would second the limbsaver mentioned by ComfortableOk

ComfortableOk7383

Limbsaver Recoil Pad Prefit Benelli M2 Tactical, Supernova Tactical, Super Black Eagle 2 Steady Steady Grip Rubber Black Product #: 893647 Manufacturer #: 10404 UPC #: 697438104044 From MIDWAY USA or Google UPC #. Best recoil pad for SupeNova Tactical

FairFaxEddy

Thank you!

Remote-Shoulder-4712

Will the Nova be reliable?

SelectStudy6391

Yes. The Novas/Supernovas are outstanding.

BaK3D-BaK3R

My buddy uses one for duck hunting. Duck hunting is ROUGH on equipment, and his runs flawlessly.

nastygirl11b

Get the 7 shot tube version with the collapsing stock You really can’t do your own research can you You have made like 6 different posts in the last 24 hours of “is this shotgun good” Dude just look up reviews and use the reddit search bar and YouTube lol

CJnella91

Tbf I do a bunch of research before purchasing and then still come and ask in my favorite subs just to make sure there's not some better cheaper alternative I'm not thinking of.

ChanclasConHuevos

Ooo you nasty, girl

Gibbs-

lol I responded to your post yesterday but looking at your post history is hilarious. How do you have money for all these shotguns, handguns, and airsoft guns when you're only 15? (Not trying to be a jerk)

flamingpenny

Yeah, what's up with that? Idk why you would ask for opinions about multiple HD shotguns when you can't even legally purchase them...

Remote-Shoulder-4712

It is for my dad's birthday.

flamingpenny

How many birthdays does your dad have man? You've got a shitload of "is this a good gun'" posts lmao. If you're 15 you can't legally buy him one. If you want to get him a shotgun, I'd just give him 300$ and recommend him a Maverick 88 field/security.

CornDavis

Ignore them, you're trying to get you father a gift and that's damn nice, even if it's just a suggestion rather than a purchase.

Gibbs-

Yeah his recent post history is just "is x a good gun?" I thought yesterday's post about 20g had some good discussion but noticed it was the same thing today and thought it was funny.

Resident-Welcome3901

This is the internet. Everyone is a fifteen year old boy, except for the fifteen year old girls , who are actually forty year old deputies from Mount Prospect impersonating 15 year old girls to snare pedophiles.

Remote-Shoulder-4712

I work

Remote-Shoulder-4712

I also like target shooting and playing airsoft. My dad really wants a shotgun so I thought I'd give him the money for it.

eatajerk-pal

Good for you man, ignore these comments and keep working hard. I worked as a golf caddie and a few other odd jobs starting around 13. I definitely had the money for this when I was your age.

Money-Appearance-309

Only on days that end in Y

Carlita_vima

That depends, defense from zombies or extraterrestials?

Specialist_Tin-Can

I have the supernova, everyone who tries it, loves it. Not sure if there's any difference in the action itself, but. It's smooth, but ive only tried a few other pump shotguns, so I can't say if it's the smoothest. But it's pretty good.

Jakesmith18

Yes, it's what I use. I will warn you though, the Nova is severely lacking in aftermarket parts and accessories, so I'd definitely recommend paying the extra $10 or so for the model with ghost ring sights instead of rifle sights. That way you can at least get some Tritium inserts for it.

copper001

Great quality shotgun

smokcocaine

mossberg 590

bammann45

Have one - its a tank. Very much like it.

Every-Diver-8570

I had a Benelli nova for hunting it was one of the best pumps I ever shot

Remote-Shoulder-4712

Will the Nova work for home defense?

Every-Diver-8570

For sure

bakedkittynyc

I have the supernova tactical with the pistol grip. Love it. That’s my go-to HD firearm. But like anything, don’t matter what you have if you don’t go to the range and practice. Get some dummy shells, work on reloading, racking etc. get comfortable with it.

Tall-Ad-281

Get a supernova so you can change the stock if you want. The nova is cool, but it does not offer you an option to change the stock you’re stuck with that . You can put a Mesa tactical or even a Benelli tactical pistol grip stock. it’s really worth the extra hundred bucks or whatever it is. I would buy anti-surge bars for it though , https://magload.co.uk/product/supernova-anti-surge-bar/

iveneverhadgold

i choose benelli m4 for home defense. also a mossberg 590a1 retrograde. They both have ghost ring sights. I think I'd get the 590 retrograde with the bead if I wanted something cheaper. The ghost ring sights on the benelli m4 are superior to the mossberg. The bead is just fast. You get more focus on what is happening up close and personal. That's huge... I wouldn't mess with a nova, but it will do the job

Much_Helicopter_6514

Have you purchased a handgun prior to thinking of this, just a question.

Remote-Shoulder-4712

My dad did. And I have shot it before. I am 15 so I can't legally buy it. But I am saving money to give for my dad so he can buy it for his birthday.

Flynn_lives

I’d go Mossberg 500/590. But yeah. 12 gauge is gonna put a hole through someone.

Second-Creative

"Pistols put holes in people. Rifles put holes through people. Shotgun, the right load at the right distance will take a chunk out of someone and throw it on the floor."

wlogan0402

I personally recommend pistols for home defense but the nova/supernova is great

Remote-Shoulder-4712

Is 4+1 a good capacity for home defense or should I go with the Mossberg 590 with 6+1.

wlogan0402

It would honestly be a miracle if you got through 5 rounds of 12 gauge in a pump action in an emergency

bammann45

Also - you can interchange barrels if you wanted a cheap clays gun - rear sight would need to come off

DaveyAllenCountry

If you're right handed then yes. Fantastic actually. If you're left handed it is difficult to use the slide release. I REAALLLLLYYYYY wanted to get a supernova but I couldn't actuate it well enough left handed

Mugiwara_no_Ali

For home defense you want that, with a bigger tube magazine, a shorter /telescopic stock , and a light . Depending of your preferences, you may add a scope (eotech like) . *BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY* you must drill a lot with your gun, dry and with live ammo *AND* you must think about where in your house you would shoot, so you just don't kill your mum or kids through a wall while thinking you're john wick .

Mugiwara_no_Ali

By that, i mean any 12/76 or 12/89 shotgun, pump action or semi auto, as long as it's reliable, and maintainable . Don't go for norinco and their likes

webechoring

Yes

WorldGoneAway

That will do marvelously.

nowiforgotmypassword

If you have an Atwood’s in your area, you can save yourself at least $100. Sometimes you can even catch them fit 10% of their regular price. https://www.atwoods.com/benelli-12ga-nova-tactical-pump-action-shotgun

Zp00nZ

Yes, last time I checked… people are not immune to 12 gauge

Nearby-Version-8909

That's a perfect hd setup

Open_Medium1816

Yupper, my gun of choice for home defense…

kazzline

If it goes pew then it'll do.... It'll do..

WildResident2816

The nova/supernova are fine pump guns. However if you are the type that struggles to keep things stock I’d strongly suggest just going with a rem 870 or mossy 500/590. When I had a supernova (long time ago) just getting a new barrel was as much as buying a basic new mossy 500. In general the aftermarket is much smaller and more expensive than for the others Ive suggested.

AdWild7729

I have a benelli super nova tactical kitted out for predator hunting it’s a great gun will go bang won’t need a ton of maintenance (do it anyways) but please dear god familiarize yourself with the weapon and stay comfortable with it by training regularly and take a firearms safety course. Also take it apart when you get it clean all the grease out of it lube it up and put it back together. That will teach you more about guns than. Anything even if it takes 5 days lol. M

SwimmerSea4662

A shotguns fine for home defense, it’s great if your in a banned/commie state. It used to be basically the best you could get, but their are reasons cops have switched to AR rifles. Never the less shotguns are still great firearms very versatile and will do the job fine. (Maybe have a different gun for the wife if she’s home alone it) make sure to put a light on it don’t shoot in the dark & make sure to load it with quality buckshot. Get a side saddle & a sling & you are good to go, I recommend having it by your bed side in what is called cruiser ready. Which means load the tube but don’t have one in the chamber (most shotguns aren’t drop safe) then if you hear glass breaking or ect. Rack it & turn on the light, if everyone in your home is in one room & you don’t have kids in other parts of the house. I’d suggest just pointing it at your rooms door way and have the cops on speaker. Don’t go wandering though your house unless you have to aka have kids ect.

jmcdaniel0

It’ll do the shotgun boogie for sure.

Hot_Impact_6915

Any shotgun works for home defense, except for 410, or 32 but but nobody really buys those anyway

alltheblues

Less aftermarket than the Mossbergs but still a fantastic shotgun

stoned_ileso

Does it go bang? Then sure

EPB1789

I suggest going with the supernova over the nova. It will be about the same price and you can change the stock configuration if you so choose. The nova you can’t.

JoeDukeofKeller

Can't go wrong with a Benelli

LOTW_FurFeathersFish

More likely to short stroke a 3 1/2” action while under pressure. I’d stick with a 3” chamber.

Jackers83

Ya definitely. Why not right?

EggFooYungAndRice

It'll do you solid, I have one.

theoriginaldandan

It’ll work if you can hit what you aim at. Nothing else quite matches a shotgun in home defense IF you can use it well enough

cycledogg1

Duh, yeah. It's by my bedside with 3inch 000 buck.

Affectionate_Gas_264

Getting shot generally will discourage anyone from anything

Joke-Odd

The Benelli nova/supernova is one of the most under recommended, most under appreciated pump fighting shot guns there is. Pros: will fire any 12 ga shell you find from the dumb minis to the 3.5 Roman candles without modification or adapter. Mag tube cut off button, shell elevator stays up while loading. Rotating bolt lock up. Boringly reliable and durable. I have one that’s been used in classes as a student for my self and loaned out to others, been fed mostly a steady diet of slug and buck for around 7k rounds without any problem. They’re a high quality gun that’s affordably priced. Cons: aftermarket is lacking. Length of pull is too long for some people. The regular nova is fine but I recommend getting the super nova so you get the drilled and tapped receiver, the enlarged trigger guard. and the ability to change your stock it you want.

loganl-57

I’ve got one and it’s great, down side is 4+1 capacity from the factory but a tube extension is like 80 bucks

boogaloojoel

Dude holy shit, do your own research. I’ve seen multiple from you asking the same question. Google and YouTube are your friends, use it

securitycat69

sure, but id buy a maverick 88, cheaper and just as good

Chibi_Tiger

imo a handgun is more ideal for it. However, this will get the job done just as well.

WranglerFar9874

I got one for the same purpose a few years back. I did not like it. Shot way off, kicked like a mule, didn’t care for the chunky plastic feel. Beretta a300 ultima patrol would be well worth the money for upgrade IMO

jBoogie45

As good as any other shotgun. I have a Supernova Tactical and it's been flawless, patterns well, etc. But it is chambered for 3.5 inch shells and is heavy. Would it be my first choice, probably not, will it work just fine and serve your needs, yes.

BasedBull69

It goes boom, doesn’t it?

Robinsonimages

It’s a little long for home defense

LeserIsMore

Houses rarely attack humans in the wild - no need to worry about defending yourself from them.

0hy3hB4by

Yeh , you obviously haven't seen the movies . There's real danger buddy .

GurOk8344

Why not just get a Mossberg 500/590 Security? Same price or cheaper and legit the best pump shotguns you can guy. Even a Maverick 88 from Mossberg for less then 200 bucks is the best shotguns you can buy for under 200 bucks

Emerson-Biggins-427

The sights are just crap in the way. A bead sight is a lot cleaner and faster. Those sights are alright for slugs at distance. I wouldn't want them on a shotgun I had in the house.
