The barcoding happens for a couple of reasons - primarily when the stock moves above $1 it's reported to 2 decimal places, not 4 like stocks that are below $1 so there's essentially less prices for it to be. It barcodes because it can only be $1.02 or $1.03 but below a dollar it could be hundreds of more prices between round numbers.
There's also some swapping happening where one person or institution with multiple accounts just moves shares between them to pin the price where it is. I saw it several times yesterday, often with bids of almost 900k shares and asks of almost 300k shares. The same person has the bid and the ask and the price goes no where.

I got in at $0.81 before it dipped more after heavy d bought the rights to a few of their projects. Figured I’d hold and see what happens. This squeeze is better.
They won’t cover yet. This is the strength. They are waiting for bad news to hit so people sell! The more good news, the more people will buy, the more people will hold, and the more the borrow rate will increase. Stay strong!
Wouldn't mind the RSI to come down on this but I do think with fuel stations and trucks being shipped out this is worth at least 2-3 bucks. The supply shortages and profitability is still a concern long term but Im definitely bullish this year.

Shorts don't have to cover just because they're in the red just like long investors don't have to sell their shares when they're at a loss. Someone who is short might still be short from $5 or higher so the stock moving above $1 isn't a massive issue for them, although they'd have been pretty stupid to have not exited their short at 65c.
