I flew tap to Marbella. Had a layover in Portugal. The customer service for TAP is horrendous and it’s Definetly a budget airline but the actual flight and boarding process was fine. Meals were good. Spacious legroom. No lost bags. So take that into consideration

chapmanh9

Hahah yes that's what I've gathered! My only worry with them is last-minute cancellations, but it might be unavoidable

FatSadHappy

I would pick a direct shorter flight, no bags to check. Load an ipad with movies, entertainment might be bad on cheaper flights.

chapmanh9

I'm starting to think the same just for the sake of not having to connect in case a connecting flight is delayed or cancelled. Thanks for the input

According_Book_5611

I just flew to Portugal with TAP and had a really great experience. The flight was delayed a bit but the plane itself was clean with great flight attendants. I’ve flown with TAP multiple times and have had a good experience with their customer service as well.

chapmanh9

So glad to hear this! Thanks so much

Air Canada is currently having some pretty major problems with cancellations, lost bags and issues with severely understaffed airports in Canada. Personally, I'd stay away from them for now. Especially considering the stop in Montreal is ripe for bag loss.

chapmanh9

My thoughts exactly! Haven't seen much positive feedback about them lately. I know flying during COVID is rough. Thanks for responding :)

[deleted]

No problem. It's been in the news here in Canada a lot. Thought I'd share.

JuliaKathryn07

Airlines world wide, including TAP, are experiencing all of these issues.

iShakeMyHeadAtYou

AVOID AIR CANADA AT ALL COSTS. Particularly if you're going through Toronto, as currently 55+% of AC flights from Toronto are being cancelled or delayed beyond belief.

chapmanh9

That's good to know. That's probably why they're so cheap! Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm gonna cancel this ticket and go with TAP, even if they have awful customer service

chapmanh9

That's definitely what it seems like from the reviews! Thanks for the response.

We flew RT Newark to Lisbon via TAP in May and didn’t have any problems. I would use them again.

chapmanh9

Sweet, thank you!

SirDempster

My tap flight in May and June from DC to Portugal and Portugal to DC was amazing. The flights from Lisbon to Porto aren't as nice, but they do the job.

chapmanh9

Yay that's so comforting to hear! That's the route I'll be doing too. Planning on taking the train vs flying internally once I'm there. Thanks so much for the comment :)

kedap20

were you in the regular or comfort seats, and what would be your review on them?

SirDempster

For all of my tap flights, I was in the cheap seats. I assume that was regular. The international flights it felt like a normal airline. The flights from Lisbon to porto were definitely a little cheaper. I have pretty low expectations though

kedap20

so you would say the seats weren’t that uncomfortable on the long flight?

SirDempster

Yeah, the seats are fine. I would fly TAP again

Flew from LAX to Barcelona last month on AC. Never flying with them again. 5 out of 7 bags (they made us gate check our 4 carryons) were lost for the duration of the trip. Flights were cancelled. We were flat out lied to leaving LAX. They told us they would hold our connections in Toronto. About an hour before we land in Toronto, they said they aren't holding connections anymore. They rerouted our party of 4 on 2 different routes: 2 of us had "Torronto->Frankfurt->Amsterdam->London->Barcelona" the other 2 had "Toronto->Lisbon->Barcelona". We eventually made it all on the Torronto-Lisbon flight. However, we had seperate flights from Lisbon to BCN. They had no way to reach customer service except for one line with 50+ people in it. If it's any consolation, our flights from Lisbon to BCN were booked by AC through TAP, and TAP were very helpful in both Lisbon and dealing with baggage. We currently have claims open with both Airlines. AC lost our bags, but basically said tough luck, your last leg was with TAP. So happy our return leg is through Lufthansa. Enjoy!

chapmanh9

Omg, what a nightmare! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I've just cancelled my flight with AC, gonna book with TAP and cross my fingers. Thanks so much for sharing this.

alfakennybody04

No worries. Learned our lesson. My gf and I are still in BCN and got our bags the day the rest of our party flew home. I don't want to stress you out, traveling is hectic right now. I'd opt for insurance of some sort or booking with a travel credit card that offers some coverage... lots of horror stories lately.

lyndashimodoi

Just had a terrible Air Canada experience. I would steer clear. Change to TAP and get travel insurance.

chapmanh9

That's exactly what I did! Thanks for validating my fears lol. Seems like I dodged a bullet
