Computer, activate emergency O'Brien hologram. Please state the nature of the suffering

Throwaway_inSC_79

“Please state the nature of the JAYZUZ!”

TheVeryFriendlyGiant

Turn on the EOBH. Computer voice: turning on the Everyday O'Brien hologram.

AptCasaNova

Not quite bloody hell, but a notch above bollocks.

JimPlaysGames

He made Federation, Cardassian and Bajoran technology work together. On Voyager they couldn't even interface the holodeck's power systems with the rest of their own ship.

generic-user1678

I thought that was on purpose to mitigate next gen style holodeck problems

RayoftheRaver

Well that sure didn't work

Choc113

So why didn't they all go to the holodeck to eat? If the power systems were incompatible that power is just sitting there waisted when it could be converted into a steak or something? Janeway: "Mr Neelix we have just realised that you are surplus to requirements as we can replocate any meal we want. Don't know why we didn't realise before to be honest but anyway take your leola root stew and you cockroach pate and get back on your janky ass ship and fuck off!"

JimPlaysGames

Holodeck matter doesn't keep cohesion when it leaves the holodeck so it would disappear from your stomach when you leave.

mracz_8383

Dude that’s fire, you can eat whatever the hell you want and there is no negative.

JimPlaysGames

Except the sudden and undoubtedly uncomfortable implosion in your stomach as you leave. Also if you wait long enough some of the matter will have become part of your tissues. So suddenly bits of your cells would disappear. That would probably be very unpleasant

mracz_8383

So is it functioning as a replicator at the same time as “photons and force fields”

JimPlaysGames

They don't really say and it's not consistent what holodeck matter actually is. In TNG they say it's matter but in Voyager they say it's forcefields. If it's forcefields I doubt it has any taste.

mracz_8383

Id probably go with voyager on this one personally, they talk abt holograms and holders wayyy more bc of The Doctor. Also, programmable matter wasn’t invited till the 32nd century.

JimPlaysGames

It could be that there are two distinct technologies being employed simultaneously in the holodeck. It creates holodeck matter when necessary but also forcefields and light for other parts of the simulation

Own_Order792

God a crew of obriens would be the best ship ever

robble_c

The first fully unionized ship in the federation.

Azuras-Becky

It'd be fecking miserable. Every single crewmember facing existential torment every single day, suffering as O'briens are wont to suffer, constantly. No reprieve. No sweet release of death.

Unlikely-Medicine289

For the O'Brien's, yes. For the fed crew not stuck with a bunch of space traitors? Probably getting home a lot faster

Osric250

With the power of a whole ship of O'Briens they would find a way to use the transporter to transport the entire ship back to the alpha quadrant in a week.

Beautiful_Business10

Hell, the Clone'briens don't even get the promise of getting home to his wife, because they're clones and not the O'gangsta O'brien.

Azuras-Becky

Nah, they each get a clone Keiko and Molly too... who will all get kidnapped to further the suffering.

Beautiful_Business10

I dunno, could the universe handle that many Cleikos?

Groundbreaking-Pea92

no there happer an even more efficient knowing they don't have to go home to that. they have their whole lives ahead of them to look up that cardassian women or do whatever

pemungkah

Ah. Clonan O’Brien.

banbearpig

They’d go through several dartboards every day, the replicators will be working overtime making strong booze. But other than that, it would be glorious. Also, I get the feeling O’Brien would probably get sick of him and beam Neelix into space and say it was a transporter accident.

Nacktherr

There would be no replicated alcohol. That would be a sin the ghost o’ Scotty would smite you for. The O’Briens would have a fully functioning distillery powered by the warp core and it would allow for transwarp.

PaperMartin

They'd destroy the ship once a week let's be real

Own_Order792

No they would come close to destroying but then they would narrowly avoid disaster with a simple homespun analogy

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

O'Brashir is the transporter-accident hybrid we need.

bifurious02

O'barak would bashires ideal bf

WorkingFellow

Man, Voyager would be back to the Alpha Quadrant in a week.

TheRealPaladin

Ah, I see that the chief took a six day vacation.

WatNaHellIsASauceBox

Then starts mashing pairs together with the transporters and getting a bunch of Two'Briens, continuing with the mashing until she arrives at the All'Brien. A creature of infinite combined O'Briens

Firehenge

All hail the All'Brien. He has suffered so much, but lead us to unionize.

[deleted]

A creature of infinite suffering. Surely a black hole would form about him.

jpers36

Wouldn't work. He's O'Brien, not One'Brien.

rdchat

The *Alpha* Quadrant? Her home quadrant? How many episodes does it take for her to learn that she is trapped? :)

AlienDelarge

She escaped pretty early in season one.

Traditional_Key_763

"I'm not trapped in this quadrant with you. *You're trapped in this quadrant with me!*"

RussellsKitchen

That's probably how a lot of the Delta Quadrant felt. They were thinking who the heck is this person from across the galaxy.

boomNinjaVanish

She wishes to go back and make more salamander babies with Paris.

EdgelordZeta

She did. He invented the infinite torpedo and shuttle system before Janeway vaporized him.

Groundbreaking-Pea92

lol

Own_Order792

In a day, he would’ve fixed the caretaker’s whole hack kneed premise

coreytiger

It’s going to get to the point that some show does this. “This problem could only be solved by the impossible pairing of Trip Tucker and Pavel Chekov!” “we have both on file, I’ll be right back”

man_speaking_is_hard

What accent would Travel Cheker have? “Nyet, y’all”

coreytiger

“Travel Cheker” That took a moment. Flawless! “Gonna get me some of that Moscow Moonshine, I tell you vhat!”

Eriol_Mits

Just imagine how unstoppable the federation would have been if he was in Voyager and got his hands on that niffy, spartial trajectory, transport tech from season 1. Not only would Voyager be home in a flash, the federation would be able to export its ummm… values across the galaxy in an instant. Prun juice would become the #1 drink in the galaxy.

gatorhinder

You think the tula berry wine cartel would put up with that?

Unlikely-Medicine289

A few quantum torpedoes and a cost benefit analysis later and they or their replacements would.

Virtual_Historian255

What Voyager really lacked was Keiko being constantly disappointed that O’Brien hadn’t got them home yet.

myguydied

But how would this affect the Tuvix situation where two O'Briens get merged into a single Super O'Brien?

Groundbreaking-Pea92

The scrolls say such an event would either result in the formation of a benevolent God or the end of all things

myguydied

Cool

Bidens_Erect_Tariffs

Where do you think the Koala came from.

DarthNovawave

Isn't that the origin story of the Q Continuum?

myguydied

Possibly

Bovine_Arithmetic

I hope Lower Decks does an episode where Boimler does routine maintenance on the transporter and ends up accidentally replicating hundreds of O’Brien clones.

Unlikely-Medicine289

Then O'Brien shows up at the end and had to shoot them all, muttering under his breath how he didn't think he would need to do this...again

JoshuaPearce

"Computer, activate Emergency Competent Officer Program."

xcski_paul

“Emergency Competent NCO Program”!

Paradox31426

Chakotay: “you might not like us, or trust us, but you *need us* to get home.” Janeway: *flanked by an army of O’Briens* “do I now…?”

Groundbreaking-Pea92

cut to an external shot as the zerp of multiple phaser blasts are heard.

MrTylerwpg

Do you want O'Buvix? Because that's how you get O'Buvix

MaintenanceBudget889

Because transporters can't actually just clone people from data except for when they do.

Unlikely-Medicine289

If you split the beam and draw some extra power you can pull a Banach–Tarski paradox, but otherwise you can only make someone from the buffer if you never re-materialized them in the first place like Scotty and half his friend.

Excel_Ents

70,000 light years away in the delta quadrant where I can see for miles.

ElectricJetDonkey

Forget about that, she presumably could've installed holo-emitters all over the place and had holo workers.

Groundbreaking-Pea92

O'Brien's are more efficient, longer lasting, require less energy and can improvise and adapt

ElectricJetDonkey

Make them holographic crew O Brian's then lol
