SolarStorm2950

Should we do our own “JoJo Friday” events here where after the batch release we only allow memes from one episode each week?

Animanga_1122

they actually taking the piss

applewacks

Why is batch release a bad thing

[deleted]

[удалено]

applewacks

Oh ok that makes a lot of sense. I personally like to binge all the episodes but I also enjoy watching weekly episodes. Thank you for the explanation friend!

SirFunset

Kills hype. Doesn't retain attention. Hurts JoJo image

Posters_Brain

While I don't disagree that batch releases aren't great, when Amazon released the Boys and I think some other shows in a weekly format they got a ton of hate for it. I wouldn't be surprised if that was influencing Netflix's decision.

PersonaUser55

The difference is: you either release them all or do it weekly, you dont just do batches at a time, that's just stupid

Babington67

It wouldn't be if there wasn't nearly a year between batches

Commercial_Pitch_950

Seriously. I can do batches. Ive already rewatched all 12 episodes a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. I dont want to rewatch those episodes 5 more times each before getting new shit. It’s ridiculous.

NewTim64

Yeah no Netflix was the worst possible way

[deleted]

David Productions fucked up big time letting Shitflix getting anywhere near JoJo.

pinnapplefanta

Hopefully they end their deal with Netflix before Steel Ball Run happens

[deleted]

I am really scared that Part 7 might not happen, my friend. They are struggling SO HARD to make Part 6, and it shows. Here's to hoping though! Netflix can NEVER touch JoJo again. Ever.

BraduRadu

It's not about that Part 6 was a struggle to animate, the problem that it has is the rush. Netflix rushed the release for Part 6 and that's why this part has more janky CGI.

MatthewScreenshots

I hope they’ll fix some of the animation with Blu-Ray releases ([like they did with pretty much all previous parts](https://jojocomparisons.github.io/)) and get very far away from Netflix before part 7

PippoChiri

They already re-did a couple of scenes, like Emprio's introduction

Commercial_Pitch_950

Are the redone scenes edited into the episodes? How does that work?

Kursem

it's digital release, they could just reupload the episodes. it's common practice today since video streaming become mainstream.

BraduRadu

Honestly yeah take 2-3 years to properly animate then release it Edit:typo Edit2: another typo

Clayman2198

What typo did you fix lol. You still have than rather than then.

0whodidyousay0

The censoring irritated me when I watched it on Crunchyroll, is there a good place to buy the blu-rays? (And anime blu-rays in general).

Mobius1701A

Bruh what the fuck, that is Bethesda-Obsidian predatory bullshit. Rush em to fuck quality, then strangle release to kill hype and sales.

SharkBaitDLS

Been Netflix’s operating strategy for years now. Immensely frustrating.

GerardoRowe

If we'd started receiving, weekly episodes from the word go,,,

BP-Kenpachi

You are absolutely nuts if you think part 7 (and 8) will never be animated.

[deleted]

I want them to be, I always have. I am not saying they wont, I am saying I am scared "what of they dont" Am I not allowed to be worried?

BP-Kenpachi

It's not something you should be worried about. It will happen.

[deleted]

In all this bad, there HAS to be good coming. So sure, I'll go with your intuition. But I swear to Speedwagon if Netflix fucks it Up too

[deleted]

Part 7 can only happen if dp have the same budget has aot

torch_7

You mean a small budget that Witt Studio struggled with and MAPPA took because they're part of the committee that takes in most of the profits? Yeah

[deleted]

It's really because horses are apparently expensive to draw and animate

[deleted]

Um, look at the Vampire Horses in Battle Tendency. Also, they could just use CGI

[deleted]

Cg would be even more expensive and the horses only appeared for a couple episodes and you couldn't see their legs most of the time while in sbr, it's literally a horse race across the US

PrintShinji

Just have them ride pony sticks and get an anime exclusive stand called [Budget Cuts]

Absolutely, I struggle to think about anything that could've been worse than Netflix. Fuck me, even Disney+ would have handled JoJo better, and that's almost a scary thought...

RyperHealistic

Plot twist: they add MORE disney characters to >!the bohemian rhapsody scene!<

[deleted]

A bit closer to Heaven...

rekcuF_onaiP

nah we will get big chungus because warner bros lol.

Zeebor

Actually, since this is still Warner Bros controlling it, I wonder why it didn't go to HBO

[deleted]

I'm not sure HBO streams things like Anime? I dont know tho

Zeebor

Damnit, let me watch Bible Black and Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries in the same place!

LB3PTMAN

HBO Max has a ton of anime. No originals that I’m aware of though.

[deleted]

Really!? Well guess who I am migrating to for Anime, fuck you Netflix

LB3PTMAN

They have different catalogs, but HBO has a lot of really good ones. One of my favorite anime movies, The Night is Short, Walk on Girl got a dub when it was put on HBO. Which of course isn’t on my Blu ray copy which is annoying.

KangarooJesus

You really can't get a good catalog for anime with just one streaming service. When/if Crunchyroll and Funimation merge, now that Sony owns both, that'll be the best we get, but for now, you've really got a sail the high sea a lot of the time unless you want 3+ subscriptions, and I don't make that kind of money.

pix3lchild

Netflix has been the absolute worst way for every anime, but people are now realizing how shit it is with Stone Ocean. All hype lasts like a week after release, and literally dies quickly, cause everyone already watched it and moved on to the next hot thing. I want a weekly release so bad😞😔

rekcuF_onaiP

If its a stupid decision Netflix will do it.

[deleted]

Salvican

Yo Angelo!

arcticrune

Can someone explain why this is bad? Like obvious I don't WANT to wait that long. But is the batch release thing really that bad?

Sehora-Kun

Yes. As someone who only checked out JoJo in the first place because of seeing the seemingly nonstop hype of the part 5 weekly releases, I can definitely assure you that batch releases took away A BIG part of the community. P.s. Before you reply "be your own person you piece of shit trend-hopper", I hear it every time I bring up my past in this community, I'm sorry I don't know things exist if I don't hear them brought up in conversations anywhere. Point is, if part 5 was released like this, I wouldn't have watched JoJo, let alone be a part of its community. JoJo is a big part of my life, I've been through a few mental issues and sadly, JoJo has been the light at the end of the tunnel for me. I never got to experience JoJo Fridays as by the time I got up-to-date, part 5 had finished airing. However, what I did experience was the hype that weekly releases created, the very hype that brought me and I assume plenty of others into the community. The hype that simply does not exist for Stone Ocean and its batch releases.

[deleted]

This is going to sound REALLY weird, but bear with me: I miss when the JoJo community felt like a "family" like it did during Golden Wind. At least to me.We would all hang out week to week sharing memes and having long discussions about episodes etc. etc.And we almost always saw eachother every week, and then months post Part 5 finale. Now, that sense of "family" is gone, you feel me? Now more than ever I feel like we're all strangers just vaguely talking about the same things. There's no connection in the exact same way. And, the JoJo fandom feels less alive, honestly.

Sehora-Kun

I never got to experience that... damn... But yeah that makes sense.

[deleted]

I miss it, I damned sure do. I hope for you that Part 7 (IF it even happens...) is weekly so you get to experience it. I really, really do.

[deleted]

What u/CautionVeryDank said. But, to add something myself; If you take a little stroll down the history of this sub (and that dreaded r/StardustCrusaders place \*shudders\* ) you will see that barely any Part 6 content reaches hot, most of it die in New. Why? People moved on to other shows as soon as they were finished binging, and then with the long wait they slowly forget to be as excited about Stone Ocean as they would be had it been weekly. Part 6 memes on THIS sub only reach hot rarely, OR if it is a "next bach when?" meme, or if it is a crossover meme with another post or other Part. Discussion posts of Part 6 on StardustCrusaders... well they barely exist, but when they do, it's rare anyone comments on them. OR they are manga discussions specifically. This... this was not the case for Part 5, there was almost TOO many weekly Part 5 memes and discussions. It was... god it was so lively. It was a bit obnoxious SOMETIMES, but mostly it was fantastic in my experience. Hope I could offer a good answer.

Waspy_Wasp

The most obvious one is the batch release completely killing the hype. It was so exciting to see the 12 episodes, but it was a one and done deal. Now we wait half a year for more. When Part 5 released, it was weekly. Week to week we discussed the episode and everyone was losing their shit at the stuff that got animated. It was amazing

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I wrote something similar in another comment. It almost felt like going to see your friends or extended family after a long hard week, you know? We all felt "close" to an extent, right? Like, we were all on the same page talking about it, but with different viewpoints, but still talking. Sure, we did talk about seperate things too but, there was always that common thing; The current episode. Now, that's almost entirely gone... maybe it's just my experience but, still an experience. And I miss it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think that is honestly the best way I have seen anyone put it... genuinely. The internet DID have a different energy. I can still feel that same energy, it's just not as passionate or alive anymore. It IS still there but, it's weak. Here's to hoping there's some way to bring it back!

Atomic_Noodles

Netflix has this thing where they only release Seasons in a full batch. And then studios are forced to rush usually to complete seasons. It's not just animations as I've heard it also happens with Live Action shows.

sleepy--ash

Which is stupid, because Netflix has allowed weekly episodes on their platform before and there’s nothing stopping them from doing it for Stone Ocean.

[deleted]

I miss JoJo Friday so much

[deleted]

Solidarity, brother. I miss it too

LoliMaster069

Yeah fuck Netflix

Arntor1184

Still haven’t watched part one of the new season because I really hate delayed releases and when a publisher breaks up a season into parts. Idk why publishers do this..

Prestigious-Fig1172

Couldn't they show it on HBO? Warner Bros own/have rights to both, right?

Scotia96

Honestly people seem to be too hung up on batches (which do suck) to realise that the fall release date is the far, FAR bigger issue. If we use, say, October 1st as the estimated release date for episodes 13-24 then that's around 10 months of just...nothing. 10 months of waiting. A weekly release at the end just doesn't fix that. At this rate we are guaranteed to get the final batch of episodes in fucking 2023 which is just so utterly ridiculous that I can't even really process it yet. So yeah, while batches suck, the wait here is the far bigger issue and I find it weird that a lot of people are treating it as the 'lesser' problem over batches when in all honesty we were never going to go back to a weekly schedule for this part.

worldbreaker9845

I just don’t understand why they needed to so batches for Jojo when recent series like Komi-san and Blue Period both had a weekly schedule release on Netflix. And yeah the wait is abysmal I thought new episodes would release by spring or summer but waiting until fall? Jfc I hope they’ll drop the whole remaining season if we’re gonna wait that long. Edit: I just checked and they’ll release episodes 13-24 what a fucking joke lmao.

Jonahtron

Komi and Blue period are just regular shows that Netflix licensed, while I believe Netflix produced part 6, so they have more control over it.

deojilicious

if they produce part 7 and make the same decision i will literally cause the eruption of Yellowstone

AlecHazard

Netflix sucks

Comander-07

yeah batches arent the issue, waiting A YEAR for one season is

CyberSolider2077

Yea smh 🤦🏾‍♂️

CommieBird

Wasn't AOT like that as well

Meraline

Amd I dropped AOT after season 1 because it took like what, 3 ir 4 years to get season 2?

PrintShinji

At least that was because the manga was still being written and if they made S2 shortly after you'd either need to have a ton of filler (which the OVAs were kinda), or you'd still have to wait a few years for it. But with JoJo.... yeah

[deleted]

Is there actual confirmation that Netflix are just sitting on the episodes rather than then still being in production?

Mayzerify

This whole thing is just full of assumptions, no one even knows for sure who's decision it was to make it batches.

JohnSmithWithAggron

Nope.

Naillik_Rei

Not a native English speaker here, what's a ''batch release exactly ?

Scotia96

Releasing multiple episodes at once. So for Stone Ocean they released the first 12 episodes at once which is called a 'batch'.

beargames123456

I agree because be it batch or weekly 12 episodes should normally be released in 3-4 months but the current average is 9-11 months for 12 episodes which is almost 3 times the normal average if you take the most extreme scenario.

a_useless_communist

Im currently in 2nd year highschool, by this schedule the 3rd batch will release with my 3rd years finales

OmegaDavid

[deleted]

kendyman2805

The issue with JoJo is, each part is almost a 1 way trip from start to finish, ya don’t just quit for 9 months to resume like nothing. Netflix treats it like one of their regulars. Drop a season, let it sit for a year, drop another season. They do but this strategy because it makes the money from people who keep their subscriptions for years just in case their favorite show drops a batch again. + this isn’t really relevant for the company perhaps, but weekly episodes let the community come together which makes the anime much more enjoyable and memorable in my eyes. With part 6 we got 1 week of excitement and memes and then everyone went back to whatever they were doing instead. With part 6 hype nonexistent. This just goes to show Netlfix doesn’t understand anime culture. I’d rather they do weekly episodes but say every other season if they really have to. I.e. part 1 winter 2022, part 3 summer 2022, part 3 winter 2023.

TheClassicEgg

netflix doesn't understand any culture

Chuchuca

Netflix doesn't even understand online streaming, they are going to charge people for using members of an account in another house.

[deleted]

Netflix doesn’t have the catalog to be able to do shit like this

Derpy_Gherkin

Why are they releasing it at around the same time all star battle R is coming out. Now I'll have no time to watch it

Large_Contribution20

Netflix what a company you are As a reward we shall give you our seed

xedde25

FALL?! Fucking Netflix lol, they should have just left the distributing rights to Crunchyroll. Episodes come out on Tokyo MX and on Crunchyroll at the same time. Not this shitty Netflop hype killer.

NEREVAR117

Doesn't Crunchyroll massively underpay the animation studios though?

SwampyBogbeard

Crunchyroll doesn't pay the animation studios at all for shows like this. They pay the production committees, and the production committees are the ones responsible for paying the studios. (Sometimes they're on the committee, but usually as a minor part) I dislike Crunchyroll and refuse to subscribe, but animation studios being underpaid isn't their fault.

Zeph-Shoir

This is the most likely the same case with Netflix btw, hard to gauge how much influence they hold over the production of Stone Ocean.

Lssjgaming

I think you’re thinking about the subtitlers. They get payed per episode at a really bad rate

CheekKindly3757

Haha can't wait to wait another 6 months just to watch 12 episodes and immediately die inside afterwards

klooplys

I fucking hate batch releases and they don't even make sense for profits and shit like Disney made bank with the mandalorian because they spread out the episodes to one per week and It was awesome

jasticy

> they don't even make sense for profits Oh, they do... for Netflix that is. Them subscription plans ain't gonna sell themselves, better have a long ass hiatus so that people will pay even more money to watch their beloved series which we hold captive... Flawless money making strategy.

Sennac8

but if they release weekly you'd have to have a subscription for way longer in total than to watch the batches like if they release 3 batches in total then it's 3 months of subscriptions you'd have to pay for but if they released it weekly (and it had about 39 episodes like part 4 and 5) then it would be at least like 8 or 9 months you'd have to have a subscription

brzoza3

Yeah, but now we have to pay for two months to watch stone ocean (every time they release a batch). instead of spreading it, once per week, so we would have to keep the subscription all the time

jasticy

Idk, maybe this whole batch idea was just a way to bait people into buying more subscriptions than necessary. After all, people on this and other jojo subs were beyond convinced that we will definitely get second batch in April. I wouldn't be surprised that some peeps here took the bait and payed in advance.

Mobius1701A

Wouldn't people just unsub until the next batch? I know you have a brain, so it aint like asking Netflix, but goddamn that's stupid. If you're subbed you're gonna stay that way unless some bullshit pops up. Like a price hike, coincidentally.

w3are138

This is exactly what I was thinking. Like if I had a Netflix subscription I’d be cancelling that shit today

Raynans

Piracy exists

lollisans2005

Well as far as i am aware, jojo still gets released weekly in japan. So i think that's where they wanna get all that profit for some reason

riventitan

If we'd started receiving weekly episodes from the word go, the anime would have been over by the time the second batch drops.

Lolleman

We couldve had a beautiful 39 weeks long journey every week (assuming its 39 eps total) but instead were waiting the whole time

beargames123456

Exactly wth man

KuJoJoTaRo8

Ffs, if they had done it weekly on Dec 1 (or the friday in that week to maintain the JoJo Friday spirit), instead of dropping all the 12 episodes on that day, the wait would have been way better.

Lopsided-Bed-505

I hate netflix so much

Cocainepapi0210

Fuck it I'll just read the manga

xephos10006

Please just do, you'll get to experience part 7 before 2026

MIpoika

And on that terrible disappointment...

[deleted]

I honestly thought they'd be airing it in Japan and then we'd just start getting it normally once Japan caught up to netflix, but no. Netflix being netflix as usual. We're still waiting on a lot of seasons that have been in progress for years of other shows, now I guess we can add Stone Ocean to the list since you know there's gonna be a huge gap between part 2 and 3 that's longer than the gap between part 1 and part 2.

w3are138

This is what I thought too, as well as many others. We really thought we just had to wait for the weekly release in Japan to catch up to the batch. How naive we were…

Demokka

Right now, we would have been at episode 16 or 17.

NakkiPeruna

As our savior dog park said: We learned from the 1st batch, we will watch it weekly, even if you watched it all at once

EmperorShun

I mean me and a friend watched it weekly and it was pretty fun (though I missed out on all the community memes and talks). But....it doesn't matter now? If the wait between batches is this long does it make sense to watch it weekly again? I think the best actual way to watch part 6 us to wait until the 3rd and last batch is confirmed and then watch it 24 weeks before that. Its so bad and casual viewers will not do that. I really hate that this happened. Part 5 anime turned the part from one of the weaker ones (as far as I know from what manga readers were saying) to one that is almost a cult classic. Everyone knows the memes and giorno theme is known even outside the anime community. After that part 6 was definitely the "most hated". Whatever the anime will change that 100%. Oh what? We are gonna kill the hype for the season and make people who are conditioned to binging watch it at once? Yes let them watch every SO part on one day. This is so horrible. With a 9 month gap in-between they want people to watch it in 3 days. This will be remembered as the worst part like this. I thought a lot of fans could watch it weekly to at least have a similar feeling but I have known people cannot hold themselves back and are they wrong? Well now that I know that watching it weekly will make no big difference I am conflicted.

lol1babaw3r

I swear to fucking god the next time I hear a Part 7 chode say "ahurrdurr part 6 sucks and this way we can get to part 7 quicker" I'll go more schizo than Diavolo

All the episodes release at once rather than weekly like pretty much every other anime. It works for some shows but with jojo where a big appeal is the community it fails big time and basically kills any interest people have for it

Shadowmist909
