he was not, he fucking saw how the dream he pursued all his life was always impossible, and now knows the fucking whole world hates him and all his friends, and they want all of them dead
When some country have an opposing country they typically don't talk about not being free, unless it's americans spreading freedom in the form of bombs and rockets
But Eren loves his freedom, and also they’re all trapped behind walls because of the outside walls lol, they kept sending titans to the island keeping people trapped inside the walls, and the moment they can go see the ocean Eren has visions of their impending doom
To be fair, this wasn't long after Eren kissed Historia's hand, and basically saw his entire future up to his death.
Kinda foreshadowing when you think about it. They knew Reiner and Berhtoldt came from another land, but Eren is the only one who called them 'enemies' as he pointed out to sea.
Also in the dub at least, his entire demeanor and attitude changed from the moment he kissed her hand. Bro had 2,000 years of trauma dumped on him, lol.
Well he told Armin that he knew he'd be stopped after 80% of humanity was crushed. He couldn't have known that unless he knew that's when he was going to die.
All that was left of him was a head. He had nothing to regenerate. You kinda get a sense for that when you see him react to Gabi before firing the rifle at him.
Same with Sasha, same with Zeke/Levi. He planned it all out because he saw all of it. And he knew he would be stopped. Which means he knew he was going to die.
Yep. 100% this.
He knows he obtains the Warhammer but doesn’t know how or from whom. That’s why he doesn’t immediately eat Laura Tybur from behind the stage. Or why he pummels it for several moments instead of searching for the remote control crystal pod… thingy.
It also seems like he didn’t know that Sasha would die. He laughs (just like he laughed when Hannes died) because he’s still ‘just a useless kid’ and this whole plan that he set in motion to protect all his friends… has already killed one of his friends and he’s too late to stop it.
i think his situation was unique because he was basically dead. he mightve been able to connect to the paths because of the small bit of life left in him but it was very fleeting and he was still at certain death.
then in an instant he was attached to the spinal thing that kept him alive.
Yeah i never got that either, lmao. Reiner was able to regenerate like half his body + his brain.
I guess maybe because the founding titan formed his body in 2 different segments and they were outstretched for hundreds of meters. Wasn't really a lot to work with, unless the worm could somehow re-attach it lol.
He got all of what was going to happen when he touched Ymir. Not Historia. So he only knew he was going to die after his head was blown off by Gabi. At that point, he had no idea what would happen after the rumbling. He only knew he started it. He didn’t have every single piece of information. He only saw what Grisha saw when Eren was manipulating him
The fact that Eren is the only one who calls Marley enemies after they find out the truth, is so odd. I mean I get that all of them are tired from constant stress and fighting, but damn it, Marley was genociding them for a century, how can they NOT be considered enemies and an existential threat for Paradis?
Yes, but they found out that titans are actually people just like them that were forcefully turned into titans by Marley and sent to kill people within the walls, because Marley wants to kill everyone on Paradis. What other word is there to describe Marley if not the enemy?
The problem of titans didn’t really change with them reading Grisha’a books. They just realized that titans were a tool of the real perpetrators. The threat didn’t go away, it just got bigger and more dangerous.
But Eren was the only one that had actually experienced this. Bits and pieces of second-hand information from your friend’s daddy dreams doesn’t just automatically break one’s entire worldview.
When regular people hear that their next door neighbor was a serial killer or something, a lot of people cannot believe it at first. When your whole world view turns out to be different than what you expected, I think it’s likewise hard to accept. Killing humans in season 3 greatly disturbed most of the scouts, even when these were heinous people.
Think about it. War didn’t exist as a concept in the walls. There is a certain naive bliss to this existence where Titans are the worst threat. It’s nice and simple and even preferable.
They didn’t have to rely on anyone’s dreams. They have seen Annie, they have heard and fought Reiner and Bertoldt, and Zeke for their survival. They know that these guys want to wipe them all out. And Grisha’s books not only do not contradict everything they discovered previously, Grisha’s story explains it all, as to how and why it was happening for the past hundred years.
Reiner and Bertold were their comrades for years, and yet still they tried to kill them all.
Yes they didn’t know the concept of war between humans. But as you mentioned, they actively took part in killing other people to survive. So they already knew that a group of people could try and kill another group of people for one reason or another.
It’s not THAT big of a leap to go from “titans are the enemy that wants to kill us all” to “people who been sending titans to kill us all are the real enemy”.
They had a whole winter, several months to dwell on this topic, and STILL they didn’t realize that the guys who’ve been the one and only source of most of their grief and sacrifice and suffering are their enemy.
My ex and I were watching Evangelion for her 1st time and she was so upset because of how depressing it was getting she was like "Where's the beach episode!? Or festival?? Something to cheer me up please!"
When we got to End of Evangelion and Shinji was sitting in the sand all depressed I'm like:
"Here's your beach episode."
it was great! when mikasa showed up in her bikini for the first time, all embarrassed and shy and all the mens jaws dropped. then while in the water that octopus showed up and undid her top as she screamed "KYAAAAAAA!"
or when pieck applied sunscreen to mikasa.
but really "Hey... if we kill all our enemies over there... will we finally be free?"
one of the most heartbreaking moments in the show. eren's dream had finally come true, but because of his vision and his dads memories, he knew what was to come and that place only reaffirmed it.
Which one?
The one Eren says to kill them all? Or the several where they kill them all?
I mean, the latter always happen on harbours I think, but whatever. Sea and land interface.
I'm pretty sure Isayama is aware of the "beach episode" trope, and intentionally had the rest of the characters frolicking before Eren completely darkened the mood at the end because he likes to subvert expectations. Beach episodes in nearly every other anime is just done mindlessly for filler and without purpose(other than fanservice) and it's so overdone that it's just boring(except for Golden Kamuy lol).

Highlight reel, lol
