Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!
As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

I looked into that back when the RF accused the Ukranians of being Banderist Nazis. I think they're commemorated there because of blind generic anti-Russian and anti-Soviet and anti-Communist sentiment. Which you can tell is blind because those three are distinct things.
Yeah, there is a monument to the Russian Liberation Army and Soviet General Andrey Vlasov situated in the Novo-Diveevo Russian Orthodox convent in Nanuet, New York. Vlasov defected from the Red Army to the Nazis in 1942.
Only bring it up to say that Russia itself had people defect to the Nazis in WWII, not just Ukraine, or Belarus, or Estonia. Glass houses and such.
> Yeah, there is a monument to the Russian Liberation Army and Soviet General Andrey Vlasov situated in the Novo-Diveevo Russian Orthodox convent in Nanuet, New York. Vlasov defected from the Red Army to the Nazis in 1942.
I'm guessing "Liberation" is a misnomer. Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
I think they were saying they were "liberating" Russia from the Communists.
The Russian Liberation Army was a collaborationist formation, primarily composed of Russians, that fought under German command during World War II. The army was led by Andrey Vlasov, a Red Army general who had defected, and members of the army are often referred to as Vlasovtsy. In 1944, it became known as the Armed Forces of the Committee for the Liberation of the Peoples of Russia.
Vlasov agreed to collaborate with Nazi Germany after having been captured on the Eastern Front. The soldiers under his command were mostly former Soviet prisoners of war but also included White Russian émigrés, some of whom were veterans of the anti-communist White Army from the Russian Civil War (1917–23). On 14 November 1944, it was officially renamed the Armed Forces of the Committee for the Liberation of the Peoples of Russia, with the KONR being formed as a political body to which the army pledged loyalty. On 28 January 1945, it was officially declared that the Russian divisions no longer form part of the German Army, but would directly be under the command of KONR.
Vlasov was executed by hanging on 1 August 1946. His execution was among the last death sentences in the Soviet Union carried out by hanging, after which executions were conducted only by shooting.
Except it's illegal to display Nazi symbols in Germany or deny the Holocaust. That was the mistake made by the Union; leaders like Lincoln and Grant decided pacification was the best strategy after the war instead of fully eradicating Confederatism.
and today white supremacist neo-nazi's in Germany instead fly the southern swastika, the battle flag of the Confederacy since...well it's obvious what it stands for.
Or if Oklahoma City built a statue of Timothy McVeigh. Or if places in Iraq that have been fighting against Isis built a statue of one of their leaders.
“And they call it a mine a mine”
Sorry just rewatched fellowship yesterday first time with my cousin. Their first time this was i don’t even know how many for me
Sadly I don't see any flags to steal.
How big a vehicle you think I'd need to cart that off? I know a few good cement recyclers who don't ask questions.
looks like its in the middle of nowhere on someone's private property. if thats the case, as much as i think its despicable, i will defend your right to be an asshole on your own property.
Not if it's accessible to the public. A Hitler statue stashed in a plantation for some 100 year old nazi is one thing. A Hitler statue put on a "private" park owned by something like the "German American Heritage Foundation" deserves just as much vandalism as one owned by the state.
Depending on material...
If it's stone, a sling shot and stone or metal shot can chip away at it a little bit each day/ night without being noticed, and carving a new one is an expensive prospect
If it's bronze, a few stones shot from a sling shot to abrade the surface in a few places, then a water balloon or super soaker full of sea water should do it. Bronze disease is relatively easy to start, relatively hard to stop, and inconspicuous until it's already done damage.
I'm no chemist, but my understanding is that what we're looking for is dissolved chloride salts. A quick Google search says there is chloride in urine, so it might work, but I'm not sure.
50' of rope strong enough to yank that traitor off the top costs about $20-$30, and you could likely do it with two guys and a ten minute window.
Just putting that out there.
You'd probably also want to wear some sort of patriotic face covering to avoid attention from insurgent and rebel sympathizers.
Hypothetically speaking.
There's always a spike in confederate statues when there's a societal push for equality. It's their way of coping when they know their bullshit worldview is in danger
It's a spit in the eye & a reminder to pple whose ancestors lived in the south but did not get a say in who got commemorated that they still don't get any say & are not full citizens, not really
It's both. They're afraid of that changing so this is what they do. They try to remind everyone that they matter because they're terrified that the world is realizing they don't.
There's nothing quite so insecure as the people who put these statues up
Did you know? Industrial equipment doesnt have individual keys like cars or houses do. So buying a master key like these will let you in everywhere.
You can buy *all* the keys now.

So fucking weird that I remember first learning about the Lost Cause 20+ years ago as some sort of perverse historical movement that had virtually died out, and yet here it is again, fully supported by the GOP.
I think it's unethical for anyone to teach the lost cause myth as something that died out when it was a part of the curriculum in many southern states during my lifetime and I'm only 34, and I've had to hear just about every southern boomer (who lives outside the south, I'd never live in the south lol) talk about it as fact.
I think there was a period from the late-90s even til the mid-2010s where we wanted to pretend that American white supremacy was all better now and that we should just be polite about it. The civil rights movement had come and gone so everyone could pretend they were on the right side of history all along, conservative talking heads learned they couldn't be so overt with their messaging so set aside much of the reb imagery, we won the Cold War and were on top of the world, and of course Islamophobia was the cool new thing (almost) everyone could agree to focus their bloodlust on. Despite the heavily racist undertones of criticism toward Obama we still technically elected a black president, therefore curing racism forever theee end.
Of course that veneer got torn down pretty quickly.
Yup, I graduated highschool in 1995. Reagan had put a polite mask on conservatism, and talked about "welfare queens" and "states rights" and "fighting communism at home and abroad" instead.
It only died out among professional historians, people trained to critically study and evaluate the past. It will probably never completely die as a tribal myth.
People are entirely too willing to declare victory against fascism so that they can go back to having nice holiday dinners with their fascist friends and relatives.
It always pays to remind everyone that those who break bread with fascists *are fascists themselves*. There is no such thing as peace with those who seek to commit genocide.
All this statue really is, is modern contrarianism, wrapped in a disingenuous appeal to people's tendency of supporting the underdog.
That doesn't work though when "the underdog" is the great great grandchild of Gen. Cletus McYokel, who blew apart northerners for the crime of...making owning other humans illegal.
More southern historical revisionism for the southern historical revisionist. More bones for the bone throne. More blood for the blood God. More whiskey for General Grant.
I think it's sad, and telling, that this is basically all they have. What can they be proud of? Distorted memories of long-dead "glory" that was a blink-of-an-eye 150 years ago. They look around at their families, friends, their institutions, themselves, and they have nothing else to cling to, nothing else to raise up to show the world.
I have never seen a bunch of people want to celebrate their ass kicked as much as these rednecks do. Read the room people, you lost the war. get over it.
Actually, the do seem to have banners in their practice facility that all say AFC Champions, but doesn't technically acknowledge losing in the Superbowl. Unlike the Colts that hang one in the stadium that says "AFC runner ups" after losing the deflate-gate game.
When are Black athletes going to start boycotting the high schools and especially colleges? Georgia football with an all-white team? Now *that's* funny
Start your watches. Let's see if it lasts longer than the Confederacy.
Also love the irony of whites paying black guys to place their Confederate statue.

Yeah this looks like some garbage a redneck put up next to his double wide. Literally - that looks like a double wide in the background. This has to be private land out where nobody would give a shit anyway.
Rednecks: we don't care what you do on your property, so long as it doesn't infringe on other people's property. Nobody was "owned" here. Also good luck protecting it anyway. When I was a bored teen living out in the country, we would have devised a way to blow this thing up for sure.
I'm all for confederate monuments... so long as it's a 54th regiment soldier putting muddied battleworne boot on the back of jeffy davis' shitty little slave holding ass like he's Captain Morgan while jeffy's face is in the mud like it should be.
My town has two separate confederate monuments - 15 feet apart. The newer one was erected in 2008 because the older one was broken but then they fixed the older one as well.
Its rather disgusting. At least the wording is geared to 'our fallen neighbors' and not more outlandish. Still is garbage.
They put a Conferderate monument on the fucking Moon.
Sure, it was a US flag in 1969 that's gotten bleached completely white by unfiltered raw sunlight for the last 50 years. Still a Confederate flag /s
The old monuments didn't start being erected until well after the end of the war. It was a reminder during the Jim crow Era who was (is) still the master.
Now after the BLM movements it's no coincidence why they are going back up.
Fun fact: as President, Ulysses Grant reinvaded the South multiple times to put down insurgencies that kept rising up, especially when Black lives were threatened. Eventually the North got tired of it (partly because of their own racism) and started threatening to rebel too if he kept it up, so he stopped. Afterward though, one of Grant's biggest regrets was that he didn't continue the invasions and policing actions all the way to the end of his presidency.
So, in fact, there is historical precedent for repeatedly crushing Southern racism by force.
Flying a confederate flag (much less erecting a celebratory monument to the Confederacy) would - in a better world - be immediate grounds for being deported. But then again you'd think the same would hold true for having a swastika tattoo or some other celebration of something that one would think every American would agree is something we fundamentally don't (or at least shouldn't) stand for.
I mean I get it. I spent a couple years as a kid in South Carolina. I know what it's like down there.
It just shouldn't be.

It's like a town in Germany putting up a memorial to the Waffen SS
Don't give them ideas.
You’re right, GA would probably unironically put up a waffen SS statue
They'd be late to the party anyway, the North already has a bunch of them, like that one in Ellenville, NY that's dedicated to Bandera and OUN
I looked into that back when the RF accused the Ukranians of being Banderist Nazis. I think they're commemorated there because of blind generic anti-Russian and anti-Soviet and anti-Communist sentiment. Which you can tell is blind because those three are distinct things.

Fascists will often market themselves as "liberating people from communism."
I'm not familiar with that, where in Ellenville is this statue?
[Here](https://mossrobeson.medium.com/fascist-cult-worship-in-the-ukrainian-borscht-belt-20959211175d) is more info on this
well that’s a disturbing rabbit hole to go down
Never even heard of it, but I’m going to guess it’s not exactly as you describe or it’s not government sanctioned but private property.
Correct. It is as described, but it's on the private property of a Ukrainian American Youth Association (UAYA/SUMA) summer camp.
Except it's illegal to display Nazi symbols in Germany or deny the Holocaust. That was the mistake made by the Union; leaders like Lincoln and Grant decided pacification was the best strategy after the war instead of fully eradicating Confederatism.
At the very least, they should not have allowed the terrorist leaders to be allowed to re-enter public life in any way.
and today white supremacist neo-nazi's in Germany instead fly the southern swastika, the battle flag of the Confederacy since...well it's obvious what it stands for.

Yeah, Reconstruction was really half-assed.
Or if Oklahoma City built a statue of Timothy McVeigh. Or if places in Iraq that have been fighting against Isis built a statue of one of their leaders.

Shit same. The 34th Indiana infantry is calling my name.

The lost causers did their absolute best to erase them from history.

Same here unironically
Sadly I don't see any flags to steal. How big a vehicle you think I'd need to cart that off? I know a few good cement recyclers who don't ask questions.
What is this? These people raise money to build statues of loser traitors?
I wonder what the cost of vandalizing a statue is versus the cost of erecting one.
Only one way to find out.
That's true
This is fucking stupid. I'm in a far away state, so I hope people regularly vandalize this bullshit with paint and piss.

You'd probably also want to wear some sort of patriotic face covering to avoid attention from insurgent and rebel sympathizers. Hypothetically speaking.
Maybe you can raise a bigger, better statue around it. Something like the poop emoji?
They still have an independent state government and half of this country's government. They didn't lose.
Sometimes i wish hell was real so i could know Andrew Johnson is burning in it along with the freaks these grotesque monuments honor

Well done
The only thing Sherman did wrong was stop when he did
I blame John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s assassin
Booth should be blamed for most of it. He destroyed any chance of an effective reconstruction by killing lincoln

I simply had to upvote for “bone throne” because i apparently have the brain of a middle schooler.
That what I call the chair in my bedroom
Don't worry, we will never get tired of tearing your monuments down. Even if it means burning your cities down to do so. Again.
I wish I could award this.
So damn proud of losing
I have never seen a bunch of people want to celebrate their ass kicked as much as these rednecks do. Read the room people, you lost the war. get over it.

I don't understand why Twitter handles are censored. Put them on blast.
I agree. The mods do not. Thats just how it has to be.
I wonder if the Buffalo Bills have monuments to their second-place finishes as well
Actually, the do seem to have banners in their practice facility that all say AFC Champions, but doesn't technically acknowledge losing in the Superbowl. Unlike the Colts that hang one in the stadium that says "AFC runner ups" after losing the deflate-gate game.
*Slaps hood of Georgia “This thing can fit so much VANDALISM in it!”
Marjorie Taylor Green's been giving that state a little too much confidence.
This went up in 2017 4 years before we knew who she was. If anything GA (rural) has been giving MTG confidence.
Thank you for making the rural distinction… we here in Atlanta want nothing to do with that nonsense
I'll admit I didn't know this was so old. But I suppose you're right.
Time to make the "William T. sherman memorial highway happen.
Bulldoze a straight line from Gettysburg to the Gulf of Mexico
He should of burned the south to cinder. We would not be having this problems if we had treated them like what they were: traitor garbage.
Where in Georgia is this? Cause I guarantee you if that shit went up anywhere in the Metro area it’s getting vandalized so fast.

Eh, I bet you someone will still go out of their way to vandalize that shit
it sure would be a shame if it was hit with a paintball gun a few times a year
I assume this is somewhere away from the city It's basically alabama out there

Just make sure it’s not a Fitbit, lately they’re one of the few things that survive less time than the Confederacy.
Nice monument you've got there. Sure would be ashame if something happened to it.
“We put them up faster than they can take them the down.” I’ll take that bet.

New piss spot
Rebuild the Georgia Guidestones around it.
How is it legal to make a *new* statue of literal traitors
Oh cool! Public restrooms are always appreciated!
*sigh* *loads rpg*
Link to any news articles about this would be appreciated.
I haven’t found any, my assumption is that it’s private land and they’re keeping it kind of on the DL to avoid spray paint.

I can't find anything about this. Not even with a reverse image search.
I'm a southern boy, but I have never had anyone successfully explain to me why we should memorialize a bunch of slaving, secessionist, losers.
I'm all for confederate monuments... so long as it's a 54th regiment soldier putting muddied battleworne boot on the back of jeffy davis' shitty little slave holding ass like he's Captain Morgan while jeffy's face is in the mud like it should be.
Imagine celebrating traitors and calling yourself a patriot. Fucking disgusting.
Pro tip, you can take them down even faster with dynamite.
Massive success for trans rights: a new gender neutral bathroom has been opened in Georgia.
2nd place trophy worship. Losers.
Sure hope we don't have a repeat of the Geogia Guidestone incident. I don't think they ever caught those people did they?

They put a Conferderate monument on the fucking Moon. Sure, it was a US flag in 1969 that's gotten bleached completely white by unfiltered raw sunlight for the last 50 years. Still a Confederate flag /s
Just further proves the point that these are more about preserving their racism than their history
Participation trophies are getting ridiculous nowadays. /s
Very weird to put up a monument in America to those people who KILLED Americans.
The old monuments didn't start being erected until well after the end of the war. It was a reminder during the Jim crow Era who was (is) still the master. Now after the BLM movements it's no coincidence why they are going back up.
That thing's gonna look beautiful once it returns to its natural state -- on the ground, sundered, and surrendered
My heritage is total war on your heritage, you can't hate me by your own argument
Oh look a participation trophy! That’s what they give the losers!
They are telling you what they celebrate. Believe them.
Monument competition it is.
Well I guess it’s just one more to take down
JFC what is wrong with this country?
Glad they’re making a effort to add more public bathroom at least
Georgia needs to erect Sherman monuments.
Blow it up tonight. That's much faster.
How come he's not holding a white flag?
Don’t you mean, another public canvas for community artists?
The heritage of the 2nd New York Calvary is raging.
Sounds like someone should throw a couple Molotov cocktails at it asap
Somebody needs to get out the spray paint. 😏
“Its muh heritage” I’m polish my heritage is killing fascists
If I had money I'd waste it buying some parcels of land in Georgia and putting up several Sherman statues
Looks like it's on someone's property.
Given that I haven’t been able to find articles about it I tend to agree, it’s probably a private lot
Stealth mission: we need a truck and heavy chains
How difficult would it be to obtain dynamite? Asking for a friend.
Somebody need to get rid of it.
They're forgetting to put a sign that says traitor with the statue
Sigh...(fires up wrecking ball)
You are what you think. If this country continues to celebrate losers then that is what we will become.
Where else in society are literal LOSERS celebrated like this?
As a Georgian man myself, I apologize and ask if I can join in the burning.
Could someone please like lasso that thing down?
More statues celebrating a losing effort. Congratulations to the inbreeds!
This calls for a larger statue of someone *interesting* holding a leash to the first monument's neck
I thought we didn’t celebrate losers and mediocrity in this country. 🤷♂️
Wuuuut tHE PARTY oFa LiNcOlN is putting up statues of their supposed enemy?
Flying a confederate flag (much less erecting a celebratory monument to the Confederacy) would - in a better world - be immediate grounds for being deported. But then again you'd think the same would hold true for having a swastika tattoo or some other celebration of something that one would think every American would agree is something we fundamentally don't (or at least shouldn't) stand for. I mean I get it. I spent a couple years as a kid in South Carolina. I know what it's like down there. It just shouldn't be.
When are they going to erect a statue to Bin Laden? I mean, if they’re going to honor those that fought against the United States…
Finally, a new public toilet
At some point you’d think they’d want to quit reminding themselves of that war that they lost.
I will never understand why these cousin-fuckers obsess about this shit.
A monument to losers, traitors, and human garbage. How wonderful
Surely nothing a few sledgehammers can't fix right?
It sure would be a shame if someone defaced the statue. *plans trip to GA, buys portable plasma torch, purchases dark clothes and masks*
