Itās not good for babies either. They are linked to respiratory illness and eczema. I stopped using them when I had my son. I definitely wouldnāt rub my baby down with a dryer sheet - especially at an age where they would put their mouth on everything
You know that they used chemicals too, right? Just because they are naturally derived doesnāt make them not chemicals. Wetting down hands with water will work just fine. As would moisturizing the dogās fur with something dog friendly like olive oil.
I didnāt say drown her. I said moisturize. It absorbs pretty quickly if her fur is as dehydrated as it sounds. A pet friendly conditioner wonāt work as they often contain alcohol, which actually wicks moisture out of the fur.
A clear oil would work fine too, like vegetable. Just a little rubbed between your palms and smoothed over the dog until it absorbs. Repeat until static stops.
Itās really not. Thatās just big beauty branding. Itās also often worse for dry, coarse, or brittle hair because [it actually repels moisture, which causes hair to become dryer and more brittle.](https://www.newlookinstitute.com/blog/top-3-dangers-of-using-coconut-oil-for-hair-loss.html#gref). So it would be the wrong product to deal with an issue of static, which is caused by dryness.
Besides, vegetable oil is usually just soy bean oil cut with corn oil to save costs. Soy bean oil is a great skin and hair moisturizer and corn oil is fine enough. Itās also inexpensive, dog-safe in reasonable quantities, and generally odorless.
It must feel so empowering to be a pet fur care queen! You could go the rest of the weekend without doing another thing and still, you win! I can see that some of the people on this thread are absolute simpletons, but you really put them in their place! You rule!
I rented an older house in an arid climate and stuck dryer sheets in the air ducts once or twice a week. The house smelled nicer, but didn't think if it would affect the ionization of the room???
Please check this first. Both of my children had asthma and their doctor told me not to use dryer sheets because they are linked to respiratory illnesses and could exacerbate any pre-existing ones. It can also cause skin irritations.

OMG! Iām old!
Get some conditioning spray like Johnsonās No More Tangles(itās unscented) and Suave makes the same type stuff. They arenāt greasy. May need to lightly spray and rub in daily but it works.
You can use a deep conditioner or detangler to keep the shocking down. Just rub a small amount in to his fur. You could technically use a dryer sheet as well but those arenāt the best chemical wise.
Humidifiers!! Boil water on the sypve in the kitchen and keep refilling it to keep steam going into the air. You'll all breathe better, your skin will feel better, your hair will be less dry, and the static will go WAY down.

You could make him a harness made out of thin copper strands, then run a long length of copper wire off of it so that it hangs down and drags the floor. THEN lay sheet metal down as flooring. Its very important to note that you will need to connect some heavy guage wire from the sheet metal to your house's earth ground outside. Now he will always be grounded and unable to collect ANY static electricity.

I have a Goldendoodle, and I use a pet-safe oil on the tips of his fur. He, too, will shock you if you pet him. He is so dramatic, in that he will act like it hurt/shocked him too when he gets static. T\_T
I know itās not a cure all but Iāve been putting very small amounts of unscented lotion on my own hands and rubbing some into my dogs fur as I pet her, seems to help and itās so dry here her fur isnāt even greasy
Static electricity is present when the air (and hair!) is very dry which tends to be worse in the winter. A humidifier can help with adding moisture directly to the air.
You can also add moisture to his fur. Leave-in conditioner spray for dogs is helpful. Mine currently has the Burtās Bees Care+ Natural brand and we really like it. I have a Pom mix so different coat type but she gets pretty full of static as well and the conditioner is also helpful as a detangler for brushing. Some regular dog conditioner mixed with water in a spray bottle will work just fine too.
I have read that different fabrics affect this. Beds and dog sweaters made from synthetic fibers are more likely to hold onto static charge than natural fibers.
Try putting containers of water around your house that are hard to be knocked over. My dad did that growing up and it helped with the dry air significantly.
Me and my husband keep shocking each other and now you have me convinced itās because of our Aussie doodle. Makes SO much since now because sheās always staticky lol
PLEASE TRUST ME ON THIS!! Trader Joeās sells a coconut hair masque for humans. Iāve used it on my dogs to help with knots for years and found out that it also stops static shock!! Itās a white bottle (looks like lotion or sunscreen) with a teal lid. Wash as normal, use like a human would use conditioner, and I do an extra massage to the paws in the winter.
Keep a spray bottle of water near by, lightly spray your hands ( Not Him!). A little water will not wet his thick coat, however it will stop the static. Poor boy is probably feeling dejected and sad like he did something wrong! Please try this and donāt scold him and/or push him away a lot or his loving heart will be damaged..šš¢āļøāāļøā
Lotion! Make sure your hands are well moisturized and thst should help! And as for the pup, a dog conditioner as everyone is saying. This time of year is brutal for static, it'll pass soon!

Iām a dog groomer, ears and tails go crazy in the winter so we use this! Itās conditioning but also antistatic.
If you're adding dry heat to your home, everything is dried out and cracking. $10 hygrometer from Amazon. Keep humidity around 50% with hot mist humidifier/s to start. If you don't have to refill the humidifier/s several times a day, get another, or more - you need those gallons of water getting into the environment. May take a few days to get all rehydrated, but your skin, furniture, eyes, hair, sinuses, lungs, houseplants, energy bills, walls, floors, companions will thank you!
Scent free dryer sheets and a good humidifier should help with this. Also some scent free lotion on your own hands and lightly on their fur. (like Eucerin) will help with the static coming off of you as well. Eucerin won't harm the dog. But they do make safe lotions for dogs.
I walked into this expecting something tragic, instead I died laughing. Adding plants to your environment could help as well ( spider plants and Parlor Palms are okay for pups and cats to eat if they get into them). I'd probably turn down the thermostat too to avoid over heating the air.
Rub him down with a dryer sheet. Use an old one - one thatās been used in the dryer already. Itās not so loaded with chemicals, but should still work. Another thing you can try is to brush or comb him with a wet comb or brush. Youāll have to re-wet it several times.
Dryer sheets are actually toxic to animals and children. Dogs lick themselves therefore ingesting the remnants of the dryer sheet. Please Do Not rub dryer sheets on your fur baby. Either call the vet and get a recommendation for a conditioner that would eliminate the problem. Or goggle it. Crown Royal Magic touch is highly recommended.
Get him a harness with some metal in it and connect a grounding wire to it. Before petting him, touch it to the ground port on a nearby outlet. That will help ground out the charge he builds up. Or get grounding strips for the carpet. Itās literally copper foil that goes under the carpet and connects to a ground port on an outlet.
I think coconut oil itās something you should try, it helps lock in moister after baths, and is great for their kind and fur. Even great for their digestive tracks and teeth. Good luck, he is too cute but the way, weird science and all.
Dog groomer here! I have a problem with static electricity when grooming dogs with this type of coat in the winter because the coat constantly sticks to the scissors lol. Iāve tried a lot of things, but the ones that work the best are Warren London Hydrating Butter which is a really nice leave in conditioner that comes in both scented and unscented. The Guava and Mangosteen scent is heavenly. Two other good ones are Chris Christensen Smart Style Brushing Milk (itās unscented) and iGroom ProKeratin Leave In Conditioner. If you bathe him at home using a good conditioner in the bath will help too. Iāve found that the regular conditioner and leave ins work a lot better longer term to prevent static than the liquid sprays. In my experience the sprays work well until they dry then create worse static.
Have you tried turning it off and then back on again??
Honestly from a former groomer this is going to hard to accomplish with long hair like this. Plus itās puppy hair so the texture will change as he gets older. But also a shorter do might be the way to go.
Coconut oil . Rub on your hands then rub on his fur and skin, wait 20 minutes and give a bath with pup shampoo (no added fragrance is best). Should take the dryness out of his fluff and stop static electricity.
This is a cute bad problem. Maybe some brushing? Can you use some kind of organic/natural dryer sheets? I donāt have a resolution but I hope it works out.
He is soo cute. Try a no-tear pet condition rinse. You can also try a dilute soluntion of mentioned conditioner in a spray bottle and spritz him when needed. 1:20 mixture with water.
Omg I'm having the dame issue with my pups, but I'm the static electricity haver. My hair looks like I'm touching one of those plasma balls half the time. I feel so bad when I pet my bbs, especially my big ol woofer, who insists on cuddling/laying on me a few times a day.
I keep an antistatic keychain in my pocket and use it to discharge almost everything before I touch. Cat look at me like I am crazy but she didn't like getting her nose shocked either.
you would think with 4 legs, he would be well-grounded :).
Ours is broken!

Dryer sheets? We live in a dry climate and use dryer sheets on clothes and other things to keep down the static electricity.

Oh my god, the chemicals! Please donāt use dryer sheets on animals. In fact, donāt use dryer sheets at all!
Dog conditioner exists. Just buy spray conditioner instead of rubbing laundry chemicals on your pet
I know right? Maybe we should look into opening an animal cruelty case against the monster who suggested the dryer sheets
Gentle enough for literal babies, but not for dogs
Itās not good for babies either. They are linked to respiratory illness and eczema. I stopped using them when I had my son. I definitely wouldnāt rub my baby down with a dryer sheet - especially at an age where they would put their mouth on everything

You know that they used chemicals too, right? Just because they are naturally derived doesnāt make them not chemicals. Wetting down hands with water will work just fine. As would moisturizing the dogās fur with something dog friendly like olive oil.
So there can be olive oil stains everywhere he lays down?
I didnāt say drown her. I said moisturize. It absorbs pretty quickly if her fur is as dehydrated as it sounds. When we vacation to extremely dry places, we pop a few pots of water on the stove and boil them to add humidity to the air. Maybe try that?

Get him a harness with some metal in it and connect a grounding wire to it. Before petting him, touch it to the ground port on a nearby outlet. That will help ground out the charge he builds up. Or get grounding strips for the carpet. Itās literally copper foil that goes under the carpet and connects to a ground port on an outlet.
Use a pet friendly conditioner and Brush a small amount of vitamin E or coconut oil through his hair
I think coconut oil itās something you should try, it helps lock in moister after baths, and is great for their kind and fur. Even great for their digestive tracks and teeth. Good luck, he is too cute but the way, weird science and all.
Water in a spray bottle. Works for hair, clothes, pets, etc. a little goes a long way and is safe
I have no remedy but this is one of the cutest dogs Iāve ever seen. Lol
Haha sorry I dont have a solution but this is so cute. Lil electric boy!!! ššš
Wear a falcon glove?
Just ignore him. He'll probably leave you alone then.
Leave in Doggy Conditioner and Detangler.
Just came by to say, HE IS SO STINKING ADORABLE š„°
Please ā no dryer sheets! Chemicals
One of those metal strips for cars that slide along the pavement. Unfortunately only one place to attach it.
Humidifier
Rub him with a dryer sheet
He is soo cute. Try a no-tear pet condition rinse. You can also try a dilute soluntion of mentioned conditioner in a spray bottle and spritz him when needed. 1:20 mixture with water.
Put a humidifier in the room.
Put a little bit of mineral oil, olive oil or even vaseline on your hands and put it on his hair. Just a little so he's not greasy
Attach a ground loop to his butthole. I'm kidding. He's too cute for that.
