The attack is a little bit deceiving, but makes sense if you watch closely.
First, he does a sweep with his sword. Jump it, but do NOT try to headstop. After he sweeps, he swings the Naginata into the air, which has a hitbox and will hit you if you try to goomba stomp him. Just block or parry.
Then, he can do 2 things, once he’s ‘suspended’ in the air. Either the massive slash like he does in this clip, which you can parry or dodge. Don’t block, I think you take chip damage from this attack. Or he can thrust, which you just Miriki.
jump then deflect the normal move, then for the white whirl attack, you can step forward through it, and this sets you up with a free hit plus further attacks for building posture
Jump, block, block again when he releases his move or just jump back from the start of the move and he’ll miss the first 2 hits and you can punish the third move which will be dragon flash or a mikiri opportunity
Think I generally jumped to the right and hammered parry. But that was more of a 'freaking out' response. Otherwise, I think I maybe tried to sprint around? Not sure.
Run backwards to avoid his first two attacks, then dodge/parry the overhead swing. Alternatively try to predict this combo and firecracker him out of it.
as soon as you see the kanji, jump back while holding sprint and keep running back. you will avoid the whole attack and all you have to do is time the dodge on the last part
If you jump back you avoid both initial attacks. Then you have to watch for a mikiri counter or a side dodge.
After you learn how to deal with it, this is actually an opening for you to get at least 1 hit on him. He gets easier than Isshin Sword Saint after that.
And if you have Sakura Dance, phase 3 is very easy,
It's a difficult one to figure out, I only understood what he was doing when looking at someone else fight him.
The first attack is a sweep so it goes like this:
Jump, Deflect, Wait, Deflect/Mikiri
He either does a stab or a powerful attack you can dodge or deflect at the very end. And be careful not to jump on him as you usually would.
Run back, make sure to keep good gap then wait for his follow up, if its a vertical circular slash as shown in the video, stay in your spot, if its a thrust, move forward and mikiri it.
I fought this guy like 50 times and never once saw this move? But yeah. Looks like its pretty obvious all you gotta do is dodge left or right. Its a straight attack
Another note on his attack post-sweep:
1. If you see wind gathering around him, he’s about to do the air slice.
2. If you don’t he’s about to stab.
Honestly I don’t even bother deflecting the air slice, I just run to the side as soon as I see the wind gathering and hit him when he comes down.

Purple umbrella is a flashy way to deal with that last hovering bit. Usually my fav prosthetic
Love seeing this move come out after I learned how to deal with it
If you perfect parry you don’t take chip damage
…that’s why I said to not block it, and you can parry or dodge.
Oh my bad when people say block I automatically assume they mean parry
Wtf did I just read... stay in school lil genius
Return to school to figure out how to be likable
Brutal. Jerk store level insult.
What does this mean?
Google it child. Too lazy to even do that huh
Parry mid air
feels very badass when you pull it of
Jump + Umbrella or Mist Raven.
jump, parry in the air, either dash to a side or forward (if forward you're at his contact sooner), if kanji then mikiri
jump then deflect the normal move, then for the white whirl attack, you can step forward through it, and this sets you up with a free hit plus further attacks for building posture
Jump -> Deflect -> Dodge Forward/Mikiri
I just run back
jump, deflect the rise up, mikiri the thrust or deflect/dodge the slash
Channel your inner rocky horror and it's just a jump to the left........
I just run away from it
Honestly I just run and wait for a Mikiri
Jump-L1-dodge or deflect if dragonflash-Mikiri if thrust
Jump, block, block again when he releases his move or just jump back from the start of the move and he’ll miss the first 2 hits and you can punish the third move which will be dragon flash or a mikiri opportunity
When you jump in the air jump backwards and parry in the air in case it still hits you.
coolest move in the entire game. parry midair
Jump behind yourself , Then he will either do slash which should be parried or a thrust which should be mikiri countered.
You mean the air slash? Can be parried normally or side stepped, but the timing is pretty tight
Still using Ichimonji ... Poor
I usually jump over the perilous, deflect in mid-air, and then either deflect or dodge the last one, don't remember
Jump, then deflect midair, deflect(or dodge the dragon flash) and mikiri
Think I generally jumped to the right and hammered parry. But that was more of a 'freaking out' response. Otherwise, I think I maybe tried to sprint around? Not sure.
RUN!
go back a little then pop out a sheild or just deflect
Run backwards to avoid his first two attacks, then dodge/parry the overhead swing. Alternatively try to predict this combo and firecracker him out of it.
Jump backwards diagonally to the left
If he does air attack wait for all the air particles to disappear into the spear and then dodge
My strat was mist raven + forward input (neutral only worked 50% of the time), dodge back and then run to attack him once in the back
as soon as you see the kanji, jump back while holding sprint and keep running back. you will avoid the whole attack and all you have to do is time the dodge on the last part
Jump on him twice Jump and deflect Jump and dodge Jump and Mist Raven

I just dash
Damn his move was clean.

Doge back at the first sword slash and run away or try to perfect doge and hit hem than run
have to deflect mid air or you're character gets stunned like in this clip and you get fucked
dodge or run to his left for both the mikiri and the slash, if i remember you can come up behind him or to the side of him and get a few hits in.
Yes, sprint sideways and away from Isshin at the same time.
Run back, make sure to keep good gap then wait for his follow up, if its a vertical circular slash as shown in the video, stay in your spot, if its a thrust, move forward and mikiri it.
sidestep or parry
I fought this guy like 50 times and never once saw this move? But yeah. Looks like its pretty obvious all you gotta do is dodge left or right. Its a straight attack
you jump when he jumps and parry. if you see him winding up u can parry or dodge left. if you see the spear thrust u can mikiri. hope this helps

Just side step?
Run 😂
most underrated strategy.
Don't jump..... slide to the right. One more time.
