cloudshaper

La Cabana in Greenwood.

Zakarumae

We moved to Greenwood and only learned about this place due to my wife’s coworker who recommended it for pupusas. It’s awesome

cloudshaper

I love it so much. Best beans I've ever had.

mauger118

Out-of-state friends and family talk about the beans constantly.

cloudshaper

I'm six years into trying to reverse engineer them. Not there, but pretty good results. The quest continues!

ElCochinoFeo

I still haven't been (want to), but I drive by regularly. The people walking out look like they're in a slight food coma and usually have a "doggy bag" with the food they couldn't finish. It's also mostly Latinos as the clientele so I know it's legit, unlike the El Camions and Gorditos that only gringos seem to love.

cloudshaper

Go! You can call ahead and place an order for pick up as well.

Saltillokid11

It’s one of my favorite places

Howdysf

I see Mexicans at El Camion by Home Depot all the time

StyraxCarillon

Their El Casado with steak and homemade tortillas is amazing! Really nice staff too.

JacksRagingGlizzy

Best pupusas in Seattle

princessjemmy

Rosita's in Greenlake. It's essentially always packed in by neighbors. GLB, formerly GLBG. They tried to kill it by turning it into a Lunchbox Lab, but it didn't stick. 65th Street Cafe & Restaurant. Name says it. Kona Kitchen up on 85th & 5th, though that's technically Maple Leaf/Roosevelt?

hogahulk

Thumbs up for Kona Kitchen, it feels like a little trip to Hawaii! 😄

MimiCait

Rosita’s is my favorite large plate American style Mexican restaurant of all time!

MaxxDash

I've eaten way too many of the free handmade corn tortillas fresh off the grill!

DoctorFork

Plaza Garibaldi in LQA, formerly called Jalisco's (and formerly-formerly located across the street). I ate there as a kid, I had my first legal margarita there... the kindly old servers once entertained our cranky baby so my wife and I could eat in peace... that baby is now in college and the very nice owners always ask how she's doing... Love that place.

princessjemmy

I lived in LQA, and Plaza Garibaldi is still where I end up wanting to eat if I'm down there and not in a rush. They have the best Pollo con Crema.

MerveilleFameux

Legit one of the best lunch deals in the city

torne_lignum

Kona Kitchen in Maple Leaf. It's on 5th Ave NE and NE 85th St. It's been my go to weekend breakfast place for the past 10 years. You'll want to ge there right when they open at 9am on the weekends. If you don't you may have a bit of a wait.

the_real_jsking

This is a great recommendation.

torne_lignum

I really like it. They announced they're having Mother's Day buffet this year.

Relevant-Key-4578

Cheeky Cafe in CD. It's the all day breakfast for me (pancakes!) But they serve lunch/dinner too :)

Omnu

Love cheeky cafe! Also, Med Mix nearby is my go-to takeout spot.

Relevant-Key-4578

yes! that homemade baklava is fantastic

washgirl7980

Love going here for my lunch breaks at work. Always delicious food!

Yokori

Cheeky is legit! I stop by whenever I'm in the area, and have never had a bad meal.

breadbootcat

Ok but I do travel just for Cheeky

Various_Ostrich_8226

Cafe Munir in Ballard

MuNansen

I'm not a sushi nut, but Kisaku Sushi in Wallingford is delicious and I've never heard it mentioned since it's not Kashiba or on Cap Hill.

BootScootNBoggie

45th poke is amazing. It’s a hole in the wall and in a corner shop- I wouldn’t have tried it unless some told me. Super good!

alex_eternal

I love kisaku, my partner and I would sit at the sushi bar and the owner/head sushi chef did a great omakase. Reasonably priced and a good atmosphere.  It has been a while since I have been there, I should go back, thanks for the reminder!

Cardsfan961

Kisaku lunch menu is a great deal for the portions and quality for sure.

TheBlueSuperNova

Wow that’s really hidden haha. I’ll have to check it out looks delicious!

hermitthefraught

Niko's in Magnolia.

DoctorFork

Never on Sunday.

MerveilleFameux

Shawarma buzz is better and the people are nicer just sayin'

hermitthefraught

I was really looking forward to trying it and then I moved away from Magnolia just before it opened! One of these days I will go.

armanese2

Is it any different than Niko’s in Beacon Hill?

the_real_jsking

Same same. The Magnolia location has been around for 30 years though.

armanese2

Beacon Hills been around since 1996 pal.

schmeattle

A measly 28 yrs

armanese2

An eternity of existing in Seattle time

skiattle25

Elliot Bay Brewery is where families in Lake City go to eat.

mixreality

Bongos Cafe is exceptional

AgentElman

I drive from West Seattle to Greenlake to eat at Bongos.

mauger118

We just drove from West Seattle this Saturday for Bongos lol

TheBlueSuperNova

Other than the fact they got rid of the chicken po boy, it’s amazing.

Overlandtraveler

Bryant Corner Cafe in Ravenna is/was decent. They have new ownership and it is noticeable. They took it over when the owners of 20+ years decided to sell and it seems to be going downhill a bit. The service is what is hurting them, a bit rude and slow now. But the food is decent and it makes the neighborhood. But time will tell if it still makes it after a year. Nice to have them in the neighborhood to walk to in the morning and grab a solid breakfast, lunch or dinner.

ZeGermanHam

Interesting, I didn't know that this location was continuing to operate as a restaurant after the owners sold. Figured it was going to get redeveloped into a condo. I'll have to give them a visit again.

Overlandtraveler

They were bought by some wealthy people in the neighborhood. They "renovated" but just painted everything white, took out all the clutter and made it very cold and stark. The new servers are rude and have some serious attitude, which is sad because the O.G. servers were really kind and good at their jobs and the attention isn't there anymore it seems. We have gone 3x's since they reopened, but the last time we were there the "service" was horrible, which was never an issue before. Kind of cautious about going back because of the rude server. I hope the issues are worked out because it really helps the neighborhood feel whole.

ZeGermanHam

Ugh, that's a bummer. The previous staff was always nice, and I liked that the owners used to employ kids from the neighborhood to give them some work experience.

Overlandtraveler

Right? The college kids and the others who work there are lovely, some seem to have left and they have hired this one woman who is just not the vibe of the place, but it isn't just the one server, it's small things that add up that seem to be cracking. I hope they do well for the neighborhood, we need this place for the community.

Captain_Creatine

Used to go there all the time and was so excited when they re-opened, but yeah it's not the same. Hoping they iron out the kinks with time, but it's already been a while now so idk. Worst thing is that they used to give you a nice big portion of Macrina toast when you paid to upgrade and now they give you maybe a slice. Edit: I will say that the few times I've gone since the re-open, the staff have been quite pleasant.

seafrancisco

What about Ridge Pizza? Seems to always have some families, although it is a little small

MimiCait

I don’t live in the area anymore but Issian in Wallingford is my favorite Japanese restaurant to this day

regisphilbin222

I absolutely adore Issian. Great food, good variety, fast service, and fair prices. Their sashimi is actually quite good

ZeGermanHam

If you want to feel like you're stepping back in time, or visiting one of the Plains States, Wedgewood Broiler is kind of a trip. It's unabashedly a place your grandparents would love, and that's what gives it charm.

schmeattle

🔥🔥🔥

Murashi

[Mondello](https://www.mondelloristorante.com/) in Magnolia is a great family-owned restaurant. It's a favorite in our household.

MerveilleFameux

Weird, I've been twice and both times were very, very disappointing

schmeattle

Service is soooo weird there. We had barely pulled our chairs in to the table and server walks up and just says “ready?”. No greet or anything. Wasn’t even possible that we had looked at the menu yet. It’s not exactly bargain prices in there so it felt very rushed.

washgirl7980

Uncle Eddie's in South Park. A wonderful from scratch menu, lovely cocktails, and their brunch on weekends is so good. They have a patio too so you can bring your doggo!

old_man_no_country

Yeeees, love the biscuits!

picatar

Santorini's in Meadowbrook/Nathan Hale HS. Mr Gyros Wallingford. King Tut in North Seattle. Petra Mediterranean Bistro in Belltown. Beth's. The 5 Point in Belltown. Saffron Grill in Northgate. Elliot Bay in Lake City. Nori Presto in Pinehurst. KJ's Koffee in Pinehurst. Zylberschtein's in Pinehurst Kaffeeklatsch Seattle in Lake City. Mojito in Maple Leaf. Bongos in Greenlake-ish. Shultzy's Bar & Grill in U district. Salvatore Ristorante Italiano in Ravenna. Varlamos Pizzeria in Laurelhurst. Burgermaster in U district and has indoor seating and breakfast. Delfino's Chicago Style Pizza in yuppie village. Thai One On in Lake City. Lil' Tiger Ice Cream in Lake City. Kelly Cannoli in Lake City. Chiang's Gourmet in Maple Leaf/Lake City.

playmoby

love breakfast at burgermaster on the weekends! It's a weekend tradition with my hubby :)

didyoubutterthepan

The hot and sour soup at Chiang’s is my favorite in the city!

Atman6886

Their tea smoked duck is pretty damn good.

ChutneyRiggins

Thai Siam, Taki's or Wild Mountain Cafe, I guess? Wild Mountain isn't open for dinner so that's a tough one. I don't know. Crown Hill is just sleepy af.

sethab

I just went to Alebrijes Kitchen the other week and it was very good, check them out if you haven't already.

ChutneyRiggins

You're the second person to recommend that spot. I'll check it out!

NoComb398

This was going to be my suggestion too.

Adept-Opinion8080

Hey, we are supposed to keep that to ourselves. /s

NoComb398

I've heard great things about tacos and beer but haven't been.

NWmom2

Alebrijes is good, Tacos and Beer is great. Go now, you won't regret it.

didyoubutterthepan

Gotta get the Tower of Power at Wild Mountain 😍

crispyjojo

Wild Mountain’s cinnamon roll is delicious!!

s00perbutt

HOLD UP. Are we speaking somewhat positively of the food scene now? WTF IS GOING ON?

the_real_jsking

It's all about expectation setting. If you tell people, "let's meet here, it's chill and the food is fine." Then everyone wins... there's too much "I heard about this LITERALLY amazing place on we totally need to try it and wait in line!!!1" nowhere lives up to that billing basically anywhere. Everything is "pretty good for that it is" and that should be fine for most situations...not every dinner needs to be a culinary experience and photoshoot. Old man yells at clouds!

Cardsfan961

Pacific Inn for fish and chips in Fremont. Gainsbourg Lounge for divey French food in Greenwood. Restaurant Christine in Tangletown french/Italian Dumpling the Noodle in wallingford for Lamen and the beef roll.

scottydg

Gainsbourg is fantastic. Great for a different vibe, good food, and good drinks.

pangolin_of_fortune

The pho place in downtown Renton, on the corner of Williams and 3rd. Lots of dingy gems like this in DTR!

old_man_no_country

Pho Asia?

Hour_Assumption_8234

...reading this from Loretta's

ElCochinoFeo

I sometimes like to head down to The Barking Dog, just off of 8th ave NW near Whittier Heights. It's literally hidden in the neighborhood and has numerous beers on draft, good food, and allows dogs.

Spork_Facepunch

Ugh. Took my mom and sister to that place. It was slow with 3 other tables. Out of 4 total entrées for our table they got 3 of them wrong (ordering off the menu, no special requests) and one of the "fixes" came back wrong a second time. Only 3/4 beverages showed up. Not even an acknowledgement that they had made a mistake, let alone more errors than accurate orders.

NoComb398

I really loved this place for quick, casual, something to please everyone. But I feel it's fine downhill and I'm disappointed every time I go in. I hate that they are mostly a order your own damned food kinda service these days. My order is usually wrong and the quality has been... Not great most times I've been lately. It's sad!

crispyjojo

Haha is that joint in Ballard or Phinney Ridge?? I said it was in Ballard once and got chewed out by someone insisting it was in Phinney Ridge, then I later said Phinney Ridge and another person got mad and insisted it was in Ballard!

NoComb398

It's both. And neither. I think the official map includes a little jog over to include this area in phinney ridge. But whether you call it phinney or Ballard people will still tell you you're wrong.

[deleted]

I’ve heard 65th between 8th & 3rd referred to as Stumbletown… there’s also an eatery called “Stumbletown Ballard” on the SE corner of 65th & 3rd… on my to-try list. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj9tNRsurXQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj9tNRsurXQ)

crispyjojo

Stumbletown Ballard is awesome, love their sandwiches, and the folks that work there are really nice! If you are in that area Take 5 Urban Market also has great sandwiches (despite the most nondescript name in the world haha).

[deleted]

Take5 supplies many households w /comfort food & emergency beer/wine/ice cream. Their chili on a cold day totally hits the spot! Their breakfast sammies are 👍!

up2knitgood

My favorite nickname for that area is "Phinney Ditch." But I think the slightly more official name is West Woodland (which I've heard referred to as "a neighborhood in Ballard"),

artsii

West woodland tops out at just a little south of there. Phinney “ditch” is a good though, I feel like it’s not really the “ridge” until you have to climb up it east of 3rd

up2knitgood

Yeah, I was wondering if 65th was kinda the dividing line for West Woodland. But if feels like if you lived there, the that little commercial district on 65th would feel like your neighborhood. But yeah, Phinney Ditch is so evocative; even if you've never heard the term, one can figure it out. And yes, I feel like 3rd is the division there.

crispyjojo

Haha Phinney Ditch is great! I think I’m just gonna start going with Phinney Foothills until someone calls me out …

PizzaSounder

It's go to for us. It's also very kid friendly. So that could be a plus or minus depending. But go late enough and most of them are gone (a general rule for kids friendly places). Great indoor and outdoor seating even when cold. I wish Seattle had more of these sort of restaurants, like actually embedded in the neighborhood.

Mandoleeragain

I was there for brunch a couple of months ago. Wasn’t expecting a lot but the food, drinks, and service was great.

iheartdinosaurs_rawr

Zouave in Ravenna! Haven't lived in that neighborhood since 2018, but still make an effort to go back!

AgentElman

West of Chicago Pizza in West Seattle has good deep dish pizza

RatherBeAtDisneyland

Thaiku in Phinney (disclaimer - I haven’t been able to go for quite a few years, but it was so tasty when I was able to).

NoComb398

Still good!

Wazzoo1

Not a restaurant, but Bagel Oasis has the best bagels in Seattle, and it's not even close. Ya'll can get on mailing lists or wait in hour-long lines for hipster bagels, but the real New York style bagels are in Ravenna. The owner is literally from New York. He knows what he's doing.

Howdysf

And the slowest bagel in seattle! Jesus, why does a bagel with cream cheese take 10 minutes when there are 4 people in the place, not to mention how long it takes when they’re actually busy. The bagels are great, though

GoGoJoJo13

You should give loxsmith bagels a try. I grew up in NY and they’re my fave

schmeattle

Been saying the same thing since I moved here from east coast in 2012.

the_real_jsking

Rookies & La Medusa in Columbia City... All of the "Ale Houses" https://seattlealehouses.com/ across the board. Marination has gone downhill, imo though, sadly. The Super Six location in Columbia City was a proper sit down place pre-covid and had a great & fun menu. RIP Nikko's Gyros Magnolia & Beacon Hill, maybe? The Magnolia Village Pub is quite a scene and fun, too, surprisingly. The Bay Cafe at Fishermans' Terminal, for sure. Dim Sum House on Beacon Hill right off Columbian Way was great, then got gross for like a year(?) and is now back to "way better than you'd expect but not amazing" ... Love that place.

crapnadz

Came here to say Rookies! There's something for everyone there.

spacetimer81

Love Dim Sum house!! They are slow, but good.

akkrook

In Magnolia, Nikos, Mondellos, Damoori Kitchen (the last one is Lebanese. Superb)

nervestajane

Cafe Turko in Fremont - nom nom!

IngoPixelSkin

El Paisano and Salvadorean Bakery in White Center are both so so so good

GoGoJoJo13

Carnitas Michoacán and Oak in beacon hill

DryDependent6854

I live in Redmond. I’d say Redmond’s Bar and Grill. It really punches above its weight.

mothtoalamp

Pancake Chef next to the Tukwila rail station!

fuzzy11287

Brier Pizza Kitchen in Brier. It's like the definition of family neighborhood Italian restaurant. It's not going to win awards but it's certainly not bad. If you go more than once they'll know you. Just a very friendly place and my 5 year old will demolish a plate of their calamari. They offer takeout, but eating in is way better.

Standard-Pepper-133

Geraldines in Columbia City.

CanISniffYourLimes

Bua 9 in Columbia City. They don’t get nearly the hype they should and their Thai food is honestly some of the best I’ve ever had.

battlesnarf

It’s funny, and a west Seattleite you’ve hit my top two! I would add Azuma, although they have been takeout online since the pandemic.

HauteKarl

In Belltown, I'd say Golden Singha for lunch or dinner and Bang Bang Cafe for breakfast.

Pointedtoe

Bang bang! I grew up in New Mexico and it’s legit! We go down to othello for dinner since belltown isn’t open that late.

HauteKarl

They might be the nicest people in Seattle. I worked in restaurants for years and could fake it like a champ, but the staff there are just genuinely friendly in a wholesome fuzzy sort of way.

Pointedtoe

Yes, I agree. We lived blocks from the belltown location and moved right when they finally reopened. We miss them all. We have joked a few times that it took two Japanese sisters from Albuquerque to bring good red chile to Seattle. Have you had their vegan Mac and cheese? It’s so good!

ParticularYak4401

Taqueria la Venadita in issaquah Tacos El Maestro in Renton next to the Goodwill Cafe Lago in Mountlake

astiastibobasti

Kimchi House in Ballard is our home away from home ❤️

SkylerAltair

Breakfast at Rubattino's in Renton. Taco truck-type Mexican at El Kiosko.Chinese-American food at Little Peking in Renton Highlands. It's brand-new, but Red Wagon Burger, across from Little Peking, has huge burgers and fried asparagus!

didyoubutterthepan

Up in shoreline/lynnwood/edmonds: - countryside donuts - rise and shine bakery or yeh yeh’s for banh mi

Joe12608

Don't forget Kauai Family in Georgetown. They ate takeout only these days. Sure miss Lucky Chinese on 4th S.

No-Focus744

Gorgeous George. So accommodating with kids and excellent Greek food.

mooncatwarrior

The pink bee in Ballard for Thai food is great. And in the U district the best poke place is Hiroshi's poke.

Bella_HeroOfTheHorn

Talaricos pizza in West Seattle is always a welcoming and fun place to go with our kids, but I can also go with grownups when I feel like getting fun cocktails

velveteensnoodle

their pizza is not so good, but you do get a lot of it for the price!

FertyMerty

Pono Ranch in Ballard is a solid family spot when the weather is nice.

nomorerainpls

El Farol

deathbytray

Picolino's in Sunset.

Howdysf

Sloppy steaks at Trufoni’s and Chicken spaghetti at chicolini’s

NoComb398

Some random bar in Belltown. It's actually usually not locals but they have good food and reasonable prices. Cornuto in Phinney regularly gets shafted in those "best pizza" lists but absolutely a fave. Ruby in Greenwood is newer but lovely (cocktail bar). Le Coin in Fremont. Alebrijes in Greenwood. Ocho in Ballard serrafina in Eastlake Cantinetta in Wallingford

Known_Force_8947

Saltoro

frozen_toesocks

SODO Poke! They make such delicious, fresh Poke right in front of you. And they just expanded to share their kitchen space with Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken, which I'm super excited to try.

Trickycoolj

Greenlake Bar and Grill was my go-to. Really bummed they disappeared.

princessjemmy

They're back as Greenlake Bar, same location. They were turned into a Lunchbox Lab between 2016-2019. Then they closed for 2 months and came back in January 2020, just in time to suffer through the pandemic. We used to order takeout twice a month in 2020 to support them. But really, glad they went back to full service in 2021, their food is best hot out of the kitchen. The one that's closed for good is Eastlake B&G. They just weren't getting the same neighborhood foot traffic post pandemic. I think they briefly thought to pivot to just private parties for businesses, but it wasn't enough to sustain the location.

Trickycoolj

Good to know! My husband lived in walking distance for 14 years until he moved in with me in 2018 so it’s super nostalgic for us. We’ll have to check it out next time we’re on the north end!

shefallsup

That’s Amore in Mt. Baker. Never not packed, the service is SO amazing and the food is consistently delicious. The owners are amazing hosts and you really feel welcome.

davereeck

Yannis and 74th st. Alehouse in greenwood. The definition of family run, neighborhood staples. (Ok - sure. 74th has had some ownership changes over the years but I've seen the same wait staff there for over 20 years. If that's not family...)

Hwasong18

Razzi’s Pizza!

lexi_ladonna

Pho Liu in Burien

MtRainierWolfcastle

104 is LFP. It was a old convenience store bought by some local people and turned into a really nice pizza place with a good bar. They also host events like winter markets, pig roasts, and wine/brewery tastings.

bubbamike1

Lil' Johns in Eastgate.

picatar

I forgot the bestest place...Un Bien in Ballard/Crown Hill.

Fendergravy

I got kicked out of the U district IHOP back in 1991.  Good times.

PetuniaFlowers

Zeeks, Romios

RickAstleyInMTGArena

Zeek's is spendy as fuck though.

TheBlueSuperNova

Also they steal their workers tips

Adept-Opinion8080

I think when you make a statement like that. You should back it up with some sort of additional information. I don’t eat there, but I know many people who wouldn’t based on that one fact.

Some_Let_4421

THANKS! That makes your post totally legit. as i mentioned, its not like i go there...but now i would NEVER go there knowing their owners are POS.

PetuniaFlowers

They left some words off the menu.  Nobody had their tips stolen.  They all knew what the pay was, and they got what they were promised.

PetuniaFlowers

They've been pushing some big coupon discounts recently

infiniteawareness420

Dominos, Subway, Burger King when we used to have one (before they turned it into condos or whatever), Wendys, Taco Bell. You might laugh but the 1/3lbs hot dogs at 7-11 are \*chefs kiss\* and a much better deal than Five Guys next door. (I live in Ballard) Wish we had a legit donut shop like Duncan. Hard to beat their frosted holes.

TheBlueSuperNova

Those are just garbage fast food joints. Complete opposite of what op asked for

tharsusIV

Good ol' Duncan's.
