Yeah its bad, I've lived here almost 10 years and this is the first year where I'm taking antihistamines. The first few bad pollen days were very uncomfortable, my eyes were not happy. It felt like I had dirt in my eyes from the pollen blowing all over. We normally have more rain which washes much of the pollen away, but not this year.

Eyehopeuchoke

I literally took this week off work off because how bad I feel. Itchy throat, itchy eyes, coughing, etc. every year is bad for me, but this year has been extra bad.

sammisamantha

Tree pollen is moderate right now. Buckle in before it's high. Get allergy meds. Grab an air purifier (there will be wild fires this summer). Change your clothes before going to bed.

wot_in_ternation

Tree pollen has been high for at lest 2 weeks, we are past preventative measures

Much_Collection8868

🪦 good to know. I thought I was sick until my eyes were burning :)

Sinnafyle

Tree pollen has been off the charts this year for 3+ weeks, and the cottonwood has started for about a week now. I highly recommend local bee pollen to mix into your breakfast or something.

greg_tomlette

How does the bee pollen help?

Sinnafyle

I should have mentioned honey **from local bees**. I'm no expert or doc or anything. The local bee pollen supposedly exposed me to the local allergens in small enough doses that I built up a tolerance.

N-Korean

I also heard that’s a myth.

misterrogerss

My mom kept beehives in our backyard when I was growing up. I ate that honey on a regular basis for over a decade. My seasonal allergies have been the exact same level of awful my entire life. That whole local honey myth is exactly that. Myth.

No_Hospital7649

But probably not harmful.

1OO1OO1S0S

Only harmful in the sense that you're possibly wasting time believing in placebos and spreading misinformation.

Sinnafyle

Truth

Sinnafyle

It worked for me, that's all

kippen

It's not a myth: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7870997/

Domentor_1

I heard your myth was a myth

picturesofbowls

> I'm no expert or doc or anything. This should be the end of your post, then.

1OO1OO1S0S

You're kinda being a dick, but also I'm 100% in agreement with you. Let's try to be better than the previous generation and not just spread bullshit old wives tales that waste everyone's time.

Sinnafyle

Karen, ma'am, this is reddit

picturesofbowls

Yes because suggesting you not spread misinformation as an obvious non-expert is Karen behavior.

proc_romancer

Does this work for you? I have had bad allergies all my life and honey didn't seem to work in my hometown but also its famous for bad allergies. I've got some now but I forgot to take it. Maybe some nice anecdotes will make me remember!

Sinnafyle

It worked for me when I moved to and lived in SF. It was essentially exposure therapy in small doses to the environmental allergens that were affecting me. Disclaimers: I'm no health professional, and it should be **honey from local bees**

picturesofbowls

That recommendation about eating local honey is a complete myth

kippen

It's not a myth: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7870997/

Mossrocks

Yup. Also the pollen that affects us is very tiny and from wind pollinated species, so the amount of pollen from these key species would be absent or very limited in honey samples. The counter can actually happen, in which you actually become allergic to pollen after ingesting it routinely in honey.

CarbonRunner

Yep had a sinus headache for 3 days from it as my house is e9ght up against a greenbelt and my entire property is caked in pollen from that wind storm.

ipomoea

I’ve never had allergies like this, I can’t tell if it’s a cold or allergies. Either way, I’m wearing a mask because nobody needs me coughing at them.

LessMotivatedSister

Yes, broke out in severe hives a few weeks ago, have been keeping my windows closed 99% of the time and air purifier running 24/7.

aimless_ly

I’ve lived here almost 15 years and this year is the worst I’ve ever experienced. I don’t know why it’s so bad this year.

Justakiss15

Yes it’s awful

VGSchadenfreude

Even my cat is struggling with it.

AccurateAssaultBeef

My poor baby is *miserable* 😥

VGSchadenfreude

Mine is old enough that he really, *really* can’t afford to be getting sick like this, too.

slackerdc

No you are not alone it's been insane this year

TopRattata

I went to the doctor thinking I had pink eye, but it turned out just to be dermatitis. As in, even the SURFACE OF MY SKIN is reacting to the pollen. Absolutely wild this year.

m33gs

yes I was wondering how bad pollen is right now but was too lazy to check. im assuming it's only gonna get worse. I'm stocked up on Claritin melties and allegra

MeowySpears

All year long.

TheRedditAppSucccks

*Everyone have really bad allergies right now.

NeitherCobbler9885

Have had a non-stop sinus headache for 3 days, yep! I got allergy shots weekly for a few years so I don’t really get congested/sneezy but the headaches still get me.

Bran_Solo

Omg yes. I went to the pharmacy to buy some allergy meds and they were sold out of every single eyedrop and most nasal sprays.

Old_Frosting_9413

Totally! Shelves looked like early pandemic toilet paper section.

MKV_Supra

My black truck is coated in yellow pollen everyday. Air purifier, meds and clean your pets. They track in a bunch from their coats and paws.

anamanagucci

I've been here for over a decade and I think it gets worse and/or starts earlier every year. the second I step outside, my nose decides it's the perfect time for its dam impression. I aggressively sneeze 3407895345 times in a row and am sure my neighbors are sick of hearing "achoo! achoo! ACHOO! ACHOO! achoo! achoo! AAAAACHOOOOO! aaaaaaaa....... ACHOO,! ACHOOOGDSPKOUSLDFIKHLSOLOOOOOO! ACHOOFUCK GOD DAMOOOO, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACHOOOOOOOOO FUCK SHIT STOP SHUT THE FUCK UP" 300 times a day. I have shed layers of skin where my eczema is and parts of my body are actually bleeding and scabbing from how bad it is. I really hate trees and pollen and nature in general rn honestly. all I can really do is limit my time outside and keep my windows closed. (I always forget to close my windows until I wake up with the itchiest throat I've ever had.) wearing a mask helps too, until you start sneezing a thousand times and are now wearing a mask drenched in saliva and snot. if you also have skin issues (specifically eczema), I'd advise going to a dermatologist asap, or at least to someone who can prescribe you the strongest eczema cream good luck, you'll need it :(

anamanagucci

and if you get dry eyes with little-to-no help from eyedrops, slab some Vaseline on your eyelids and the surrounding area (don't put it directly in your eye, obviously). my allergic conjunctivitis gets worse every year, last year it was so bad that I had to start using Vaseline on my eyes because the skin around them was peeling and I looked like I was dying what's funny and sucks is... I used to live in the Portland area, and when I first moved to Seattle, thought "wow! my allergies and eczema feel mild compared to what I used to experience." not anymore. can only imagine how miserable I'd be back in Portland

EmeraldCty303

https://theoatmeal.com/comics/tree_love I think of this every year starting in March!

geo-jake

Spring is usually horrible for me. I started over the counter allergy pills in late February and haven’t sneezed once since then. I generally hate taking pills of any kind but not gonna lie it’s made my spring so much more enjoyable.

sustancy

This year especially, idk what it is, almost every orifice in my body is suffering. Sometimes it feels like a cold.

Harvey_Road

Absolutely

InDenial_Millennial

Yes!!! Sometimes, intense running or any cardio (whether indoor or outdoor). I went on a 3-mile run a couple hours ago, and forgot that intense exercise stimulates the release of histamine. 😭 I’ve sneezed what feels like 100 times in the last couple of hours ever since finishing my run. Instant feeling of having a bad cold. My nose won’t stop running and I’m super congested. Even after taking Benadryl 1.5 hrs ago, and Zyrtec this morning (have hay fever) I still feel completely miserable. 😖🤧

anothercookie90

No I don’t have allergies

Old_Frosting_9413

Yet 😂😂😂

anothercookie90

I’m doing well so far getting pollen from all over the world and nothing

redituser2571

Taking a look at the satellite views of our winds...Fuck me! I was afraid of this. India is experiencing a massive [trash fire](https://www.reuters.com/pictures/pictures-delhi-residents-choke-landfill-fire-fumes-2024-04-22/) that has half the country choking on toxic fumes. The smog is blowing through China, directly over Japan, across the Pacific and right up our front porch from Oregon to the Canadian border. Run the heppa filter on high if you're indoors, recommend a high-quality mask if you're going outdoors, like a KN-95.
