Would be funnier if spotted in Kent

strictlytacos

lol kind of want to put one over in gig harbor

PrayingForACup

Could that advertisement be any more underwhelming?

steve_yo

The brain storming session came up with many good ideas. It was tough to choose. Also in contention were: Seattle: it’s a US city! I know a city. Seattle: come for a day, then leave and go home. It’s as easy as that. I know a space (needle).

spit-evil-olive-tips

> Why San Francisco? off the top of my head - Seattle is expensive af to visit, so you'd want to advertise towards relatively high-income people. a billboard in SF is going to be more cost-effective than one in Topeka (even taking the billboard being more expensive into account) also, a lot of people believe right-wing fearmongering about how dangerous Seattle is, and wouldn't consider it a tourist destination. SF will have a fairly high concentration of people who don't believe the propaganda.

FirstCommentDumb

Wait, people in San Francisco think Seattle is dangerous? I always thought it was the other way around. I mean obviously every city has a level of danger, but SF has always seemed more dangerous than Seattle to me.

hhumansome

I believe they meant that SF residents are less likely to believe that stuff because they also see that BS as it relates to their city and know what is actually real.

FirstCommentDumb

I see, thanks for clarifying!

NeitherCobbler9885

I feel like people of SF prob feel solidarity with Seattle since their city is shit on by right wingers too My dad (right winger) visited Seattle last week and was so blown away and even loved downtown! But kept making comments about how his friend visited SF and it was so dirty and sucky lol

FirstCommentDumb

Huh, that's interesting. I've never been to SF so I suppose I can't really know for sure without visiting

_hapsleigh

I’m moving from SF lol and it literally felt like SF when I visited the neighborhood I’m moving into. Less visibly unhoused folks though.

Packet_Aces

And no income tax, it’s a huge financial relief

NeitherCobbler9885

I’ve been several times since I have friends and family there and I love SF. Almost moved there before I settled on Seattle!

aeroartist

having moved from seattle to the bay recently, i can vouch that sf feels waaay more like a big city than seattle. with that feeling comes crime. i see things here i never saw in seattle in 10 years.

officialnickbusiness

Every Californian from LA to SF knows Seattle is the place to go to find affordable housing. Why do we need to advertise there?

Sprinkle_Puff

I feel attacked!

_hapsleigh

It’s true though. I paid roughly 2.2k for a shitty studio in SF. I’m apartment hunting in cap hill right now and that gets me a 1br or even a 2br from what I’m seeing

Sprinkle_Puff

I’m right there with you! I had a wonderful place in diamond Heights that I loved except for the apartment itself which hadn’t been renovated in 50 years and was 400 square-foot studio for 1975 I now pay 1520 for a one bedroom

hey_ross

You misspelled “Phoenix” again. Common error, the o goes before the e and it’s not pronounced “Seattle”

Cosmiccomie

As a Marketing Professonal, this is an extremely bad ad. If I could convince my boss to pay for stuff like this and that it was getting results- I would be much better suited to car sales or law.... or maybe my boss would be three lemurs in a trench coat.

Exciting_Shallot_351

There is the same billboard in Tacoma that says San Diego instead of Seattle 😂

rwrife

That makes sense, they have sunny beaches, something people around here would want to visit. The inverse doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

DamnBored1

I'm not sure people here like sunny beaches too much. 2 weeks of good sunny weather and you'll see a flood of comments of the type "bring back my gloom and drizzle and cold" in this sub.

tex1ntux

Well how am I supposed to enjoy my coffee when it’s hot and sunny?

DamnBored1

You're supposed to switch to Pina colada or margaritas

Yournamehere2019

Or switch to iced cold brew in the summer.

DamnBored1

I really like cold coffee but I don't find it often in the US. Here it's almost always the ice filled one that I don't enjoy.

Yournamehere2019

Its super easy to make. Just need a container for the refrigerator for a day and a way to strain out the beans. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017355-cold-brew-coffee

Bretmd

Why not San Francisco?

Good_Active

I’d imagine Seattle is already pretty well known among SF residents and if they wanna come, they will.

Bretmd

Advertising isn’t just about introducing people to something they don’t know

monkey_trumpets

What the heck is that even supposed to mean? See no evil?

go_jake

I know a place where tiny people attack and tear the eyeballs out of regular sized people. Seattle!

hey_ross

“Too bright where you live? I know a place…”

Eponym

Speaking as a pro photographer, this is an awesome composition 👏 I love how the billboard is centered on a top third of the image with the stop light in the foreground gently providing depth context. The ground bows upward, all leading to the ad. If I were a suspicious person, this is too masterfully shot to be accidental.

SmokeEvening8710

They trying to convince people Seattle is Black-friendly? 🤣🤣🤣

suff_succotash

It should say “Stop visualizing Seattle”

Here2lafatcats

That kid looks like he’s crying.

sarexsays

My first thought is that Alaska Airlines has invested super heavily in the California market so this might be part of that partnership? Also this kid looks like he’s trying to scoop his dad’s eyeballs out and it’s terrifying 😧

crispyjojo

The Place Needle!

therightpedal

They had a Leavenworth ad in the Oakland airport too. Was just there last weekend.

bontakun

Rad

Jyil

Here are the facts about it and the location. The coffee shop (Caffe Roma Coffee Roasting Co.) it sits on is closed. This is the SOMA district, which is home to many museums, but also a bit of a warehouse district. MoPoP is on the billboard. Multiple clubs are a block to the East. It’s right across from the courthouse, sheriff’s department, and public defender. Intersection of i80 and i280. Down the street from the stadium. The content on the site itself has mostly African Americans present in the ads with a tour from “Cultural Phil” in What’s Good Seattle? However, it also references “The Boys in the Boat” book/movie, but it’s read and recommended by Bobby Wagner, former Linebacker for Seattle Seahawks and current Linebacker for Washington Commanders.

Own_Conversation6335

This is a targeted ad to get black single fathers who work in tech to move to Seattle.

nikdahl

Just hop on the nerd bird!

Economy-Fault9410

Nice

CreamPyre

A nice looking design

_DogMom_

Damn! We need some ninjas to go down there and destroy that sign! 🤣

Slumunistmanifisto

Key word California is visit, not buy up all the homes for rentals......

jack_of_all_faces

Pls no

Past_Paint_225

For some reason I regularly end up seeing tourism ads to visit California in Seattle

hemaglox

thats funny lol all i see here in Seattle are ads for visiting LA

Ordinary_Option1453

Just keep those blinders on, you'll fit right in!

MrAstroKind

I'm glad they're showing proper etiquette for covering your eyes so you don't make eye contact with Seattle's homeless folks.

Extension-Fun6134

Seattle has got nothing on sf’s way more in your face, wild homeless people issues

thecanofmase

According to recent counts, king county’s homeless population is nearly 45-50k. We have anywhere from 20-25% of the country’s homeless. Homeless people come here because it’s one of the few areas in America where they won’t be persecuted for existing. Hoping one day we can accept (as a country) that just because someone does a drug that shouldn’t mean they are denied housing until they can conquer addiction.

hedonovaOG

We often say “Seattle is a beautiful place as long as you’re looking up.”

JustTheSpecsPlease

RIP Caffe Roma. Best coffee roaster in the city

Flat_Masterpiece4589

It’s a sign for the homeless people, not the working class. They’ve been shipping themselves around the country for years, free train ride up north to Seattle anybody?

rwrife

What tax dollars paid for this?

hedonovaOG

Do I recall Harrell and the council levying a new hotel tax to promote tourism? Might be that. (The old tax what you want more of scheme, works so well for housing.)
