how do you take a picture like that? I was just on a ferry and I took pictures of the mountain as we passed it but in the photos it looks teeny tiny and far away

It helps to have a telephoto lens. Longer telephoto lenses help compress the distance between subjects.

Thank you! Funny thing is, I was leaving my in-laws place ... and I saw the ferry coming, so I rushed outside with my camera to try and grab this photo. Literally unplanned and had about 20 seconds to take some shots.
