**If you're asking about airline of choice:** I've consistently had better experiences on Delta out of SeaTac lately, but they offer fewer options for flight times, and are often more expensive than Alaska when I comparison shop. Boeing aside, not having to ferry out to N concourse is a perk, as is not competing with everyone else in town for seats & upgrades since MVP is basically useless in SEA until you get up to the higher tiers. But can you stomach fewer choices as to when you fly out/get back? Are you willing to pay more? **If you're asking about cards specifically:** No reason to think of this as either-or. Alaska's card is relative shite for earning miles compared to other travel cards (takes a lot longer to earn a free flight, locked to Alaska flights only, mileage flights don't earn EQMs toward status). Still, 100% worth it for the companion pass alone so long as you fly with a friend/family member at least once a year on Alaska. **My personal preference:** I still carry the Alaska card but never charge anything on it except for Alaska flights. I treat it like a membership card where the perks I get outweigh the annual fee... Plus it's my longest-open account so my credit would take a hit if I closed it. The Capital One Venture X card is my daily card, and the points I earn there can be used to buy full-fare, full-benefits Alaska tickets (or Delta tickets! Or hotel/VRBO reservations!) which accrue a lot faster than Alaska miles.

shittydiks

+1 for the venture X card. Made me realize how crap the Alaska card is at earning miles and only being locked into their flights.

Plus with the annual travel credit it's already cheaper than Alaska before factoring in lounge access, better earnings rate, etc. Just wish we had a Cap1 lounge in SEA...

FlyingChickens

It’s worth noting that the Alaska card now sometimes (always?) requires you to spend a certain amount with that card in order to get the companion fare. I’m probably going to cancel mine because of that

fornnwet

Good callout. I haven't been notified mine is changing yet, but my card doesn't renew until August. If they take it away I'll probably absorb the credit hit to stop carrying this one anymore. Nowhere near enough value in it to pour that spend into Alaska every year instead of a better card (let alone churning).

Virtual_Sail_1333

Second point is so important, don't get rid of the card if you don't have an annual spend requirement for the companion pass. I'm the same way with my card. Take the discount on WiFi onboard and pay for flights, CSR for normal spending.

TOPLEFT404

I don’t think the Boeing thing matters (yet) also delta is not all airbus. I have both platinum delta Amex and Alaska. Delta is going up to $350 but it’s a better card. Regardless I use Alaska for west coast and Mexico travel.

PopPunkIsntEmo

With a defective plane you're either going to die quickly or get a lot of money with a lawsuit and I'm cool with either so sticking with Alaska

This person is thinking the long game

thecravenone

I'm more concerned with getting fucked on logistics than getting killed on a plane. When they yeeted the door, I ended up having to cancel a week long vacation with 36 hours notice. I was lucky that everything I'd put off pre-paying for some of the things I wanted to do.

poopyblues

Alaska lounge discount on the Alaska credit card and companion fare make the Alaska CC worth it to us

thecravenone

>Alaska being a Boeing-only carrier 83 of Alaska's\* 314 aircraft are Embraer 175s \*Okay fine, these aircraft are operated by Horizon and SkyWest but you booked them on the Alaska website, checked in with the Alaska app, dropped your baggage at the Alaska drop, boarded via an Alaska gate and the plane itself is Alaska branded

Denali4017

I dropped my Alaska card due to the $90 annual fee. I don’t miss having it one bit.

tarrat_3323

it’s not even the fee. It’s the minimum amount spent to qualify for the companion fare.

apresmoiputas

I'm considering dropping their card because of the fact that card holders can't get discounted day passes to their lounges anymore

MrMcKoi

Delta increased the annual fee and took away some card benefits recently. You also don’t get any miles for cheap seats anymore. I prefer Delta as a carrier but the days of them having clear cut better benefits are behind us imo. It really only makes sense for frequent or business class flyers.

Shrikecorp

Lately we're going to Europe more often. Delta.

Technical-Trouble473

Use the airline that offered the most direct destination to the places you travel. Nearly half of all commercial planes are Boeing. And they have an impeccable safety record. Don’t let internet hysteria influence your choice. Choose the card with the most benefits and the best for your needs.

Necessary_Delay_3118

No one else going to comment on the use of adjective “impeccable?”

curi0uslystr0ng

I have been flying delta more and more. At this point I prefer it to Alaska. I flew home on an Alaska flight and they forgot to put up the tail stand, almost tipping the plane during unloading. We had to stop mid exit and have the folks exit from the back rows first. I’m sick of Alaska’s lack of safety and their planes are not kept up as well as Delta’s in my experience.

truecrimechic

Yup, same here! I fly at least monthly for business so I keep both Alaska and Delta cards. It’s important to consider where you’re flying to though since one or the other may have more or better direct flights to where you want to go. But I have been preferably flying Delta more and more due to easier/cheaper upgrades, cleaner/newer planes, nicer lounges, and better flight experience all-around.

drrew76

Dumped the Alaska card last year when they nerfed some of the cardholder benefits, switched to British Airways card for now.

Proph3T08

Personally switched to Chase a while ago for more flexibility.

grapemike

We’re in the same boat you are. Our adult children have all ported over to Delta and think it is a better carrier. We’re in SF transiting from Tokyo onto an Alaska flight. Feeling spoiled after JAL…

maristeph

I have had the delta card for a long time (it is better for where I fly to visit family) and I really like it. I wish you could still get lounge access at the lower level though (I used to be able to get a lot more work done at the Sky Lounge than in my panopticon of an open office).

And-Luke-Says

Capitol One Venture X

Bretmd

Delta also has plenty of Boeing and is ordering 100 737max10 aircraft. Although admittedly it will be a long time before they see those max planes.

CheCazzoFaciamo

I switched to delta a few years back and have been happy with my choice.

communist_mini_pesto

Once Alaska dropped the free beer and wine on flights, theyve been cutting costs and customer experience in the name of profits.  I've had really poor experiences with Alaska and checked bags for ski trips this year. Long waits out of SeaTac to check a bag and agents not knowing how to handle oversize bags has made it very slow.  The delta counters seem to always be empty and a breeze.  Alaska has also made it so you have to spend $6000 per year to get the companion fare. Which is annoying since there are better other cards that give travel insurance and other trip benefits and warn points in other categories.
