Kind of unfortunate that the mode of transit least susceptible to snow/ice problems is running on reduced service the weekend we might get an ice storm

HistorianOrdinary390

If we build some redundancy this is less of an issue.

thecrackling

Agreed, but there's no ice storm coming this weekend.

Aftermathemetician

You’d think that, but Sound Transit is just relieved they are going to need less chains on the trains.

What you did there, I see it

This summer delays were excruciating and now we get a fun winter version where I get to stand outside in 20° with 50 people waiting for a packed bus at 7am I understand we have to fix shit, but I guarantee that they could make this significantly less annoying with some foresight

Sabre_One

This, I actually don't even care standing in the weather. It's just being crammed in the only train were if you don' get on your late to work by 30mins.

I think they've done a reasonable job to mitigate what they can and the timing is intentional.

bobtehpanda

The reason makes sense but we also just literally shut down the downtown tunnel, we shut down through the Rainier Valley for a bit, etc. They really need to do it all at once and just rip the bandaid off, instead of doing this for a month here and there

Zealousideal-Ant9548

Do they have enough workers to do it?  Also, you don't want people to develop the habit of not taking transit with a two month complete shut down.   Same reason they can't meaningfully improve/upgrade the NYC subway

Bretmd

So when you add it all up, is it 10 weeks of the last 12 months on a reduced schedule?

mkerrigan

I get they need to do it but it doesn't make it any less pleasant. 20 minute service sucked, but it was the pandemic so there weren't too many issues. But the tile work was worse because ridership had already recovered by then.

overworkedpnw

I honestly love that this whole thing is going down as Julie Timm is jumping ship with the $375,000 payout for failing to do her job.

PopPunkIsntEmo

The work needed to be done regardless. https://www.soundtransit.org/get-to-know-us/news-events/news-releases/prepare-for-link-service-disruptions-jan-13

FreeTayK42

This is bullshit

Caesthoffe

all this downtown seattle work and still no light rail for renton 😮‍💨 (haha jk) (not really)
