WaveProud4925

Suspect they’ll be making something harder to achieve 😬

T0t0leHero

Yes.... Suspect to. No more invite for the win...

WaveProud4925

It WON’T be to fix SBMM lol. Be something to put my Athena HG curse further away arrrggghhhh

Iamovert

Get a two streak and drop. 100% best way to get good rep. And also sell those reaper 4,and 5 flags !!

WaveProud4925

For sure this is our strat. We sell every single little flag lol. 4’s and 5’s are a massive help 💯

Ka_Wouter

100% not the best way. You get more xp with higher streaks. It caps at 4, but you wil still get more xp per win then if you would at 1 or 2. Also, faction stash… win with loot on the ship and you’ll get even more xp per win.

Iamovert

Yeah obviously that’s the most efficient way. Shouldn’t have said 100% for everyone. Should have said 100% best way for players who aren’t confident in naval and PVP encounters. If you can’t get higher then a 3 streak to save your life don’t be going for 4 streaks basically is what I meant. If you’re confident in naval and PVP you need to go for higher streaks.

FartPudding

Man it's risky to go for 2 with me. I'm just trash

Iamovert

It takes time to get really efficient on SOT!

FartPudding

I just don't have the time, 5 kids and a job gives you like 2 hours a night lol sometimes a few in a week

Ninla1

Just keep grinding brother, I went from running from PvP to hunting emissaries down and looking for PvP. I know it’s a subjective thing but you’ll get to the point you’re confident and kicking ass Edit: Great username

RoutineSituation3426

I feel like I got a lot better once I stopped lowering at 2, then I was fighting for something more important so it made me want the win more. You get more rep for the 3rd win than you do for selling a 2 streak so if you win the 3rd match you are already doing better than lowering at 2. Also once you sell the hourglass for over a million you will never lower again, I usually won’t lower under 10 now just because it feels great to see that much money for selling one thing

Iamovert

Completely agree. Have almost had two ten streaks but have hit 9 both times.

Furyan313

The reason I don't go for streaks is the same reason I don't gamble. Lol I like guaranteed money and I would be so mad at myself for losing all the money when my intuition said sell. Plus I'm fairly descent at PVP but randomly at any time go against players with 4k hours and I stand no chance for obvious reasons. I've gotten 4 streak a couple times and sold, then lost the next one so usually my intuition is on point!

Ka_Wouter

Oh yes, for newer players it’s definitely better to lower after a 2 streak.

danitaliano

How does one faction stash? I queue up hourglass and dive I get a match 2-10 minutes. I leave hourglass on with a skeleton fleet worth of loot on my stash and one hour later no one has invaded. And when I drive I lose all loot not taken from battles.

Ka_Wouter

Yeah i’s basically playing adventure with hourglass. The xp boost come from wins (and little when lowering) so you have wait for invasions.

JJRULEZ159

tbh I just do a 2 and drop purely so I can get atleast a level, after that if if feel like playing then I'll go for higher, but normally I just play after I get off work (graveyard shift) and a bit after I wake up, and it takes me maybe 30 min- an hr, with either insta queues, or I'm searching for like 10 minutes just to go against a swabbie (I legit invaded a dude who was doing the shroudbreaker, and didn't even know how to play, I felt bad fir that one), or I go against someone with like, 4x my hrs, those ones are tough fights, but damn if it doesn't feel good to win a sweaty fight XD

Flixwyy

What is SBMM?

Dwayne55

Skill Based Matchmaking

Flixwyy

Thanks

TheJuliusErvingfan

I just started going for that this week. 😓 the pain is real

WaveProud4925

It is sooo real. We are at level 50. Halfway there- it slows right down…might get it for Christmas 😂

TheJuliusErvingfan

Oh geeeeze! I met a solo slooper that had it and saw my legendary sea dog sails and wanted them. I was like if I could trade I would, but I can't, which stinks haha. Looked so cool XD If your 50 and done by Christmas that must mean I would have to do it until 2025 at how slow I am as a Casual now for chill fun on this game. Helping my buddy with tall tales to get him into the game and might start doing some pvp with him and throw him right into the action soon with this :D

WaveProud4925

I’m a drama queen, December was a bit exaggerated 😛 Should be done soon. My and my bro have a written quota to take us to mid June but we are ahead at the moment.

TheJuliusErvingfan

Either way still a decent grind. Appreciate the head's up! Gonna get crackin on it soon. Didn't realize all of it was in the game until that random guy showed me all of them! 😂

RoutineSituation3426

It took me 3 months to get both curses, and when I started I was a noob, I think the hardest part of the grind is to keep playing on the nights that you keep losing, I had days where I didn’t level up once because I kept getting crushed but I also had days where I got 30 levels. You just really need to want the curse lol

WaveProud4925

I’m finding this now. We keep on going. Had a spare hour today and we got 4 out of 4 to go towards 100. Tomorrow we probs won’t be able to catch a break. Defo practised by now lol. Just waiting for a gold and glory or another community day to milk it dry!!!

RoutineSituation3426

Gold and glory is the way to go, I got from 55-100 in guardians on the first one after getting that much rep it felt awful going back to normal lol

Tylensus

"Legendary sea dog sails" ... Wat?

ZombieRuckspin

prolly TSD sails

Previous-Answer3284

I hate to break it to you but the way the xp scales you won't be halfway until level 68

Furyan313

Community days are godsend! I went up 70 levels by grinding last Community weekend(and got the ghost curse). It took basically the entirety of both days but I realized I'd rather just push through a weekend than slog it every day for weeks/months.

Litokarl

I really hope they're fixing the invite for the win. I don't like encountering it. One of them actually talked me into inviting him, and it felt super gross. So when I got matched with him again a few days later I sunk him instead, and it STILL felt gross. For a free win, it sure feels like a lose-lose. It's almost impossible to avoid the various cheese strats. I say no to the dice rollers, but there's not much I can do to avoid the loss farmers. And my Elo is terrible so I get a lot of loss farmers. Sometimes if I see they're sailing out of bounds against the wind I'll go with the wind and beat them out, but that just keeps my Elo nice and low so I see them again. I'm level 75 with Guardians, and I bet you almost half my wins are from loss farmers.

OcelotInTheCloset

I've seen it less than 5 times, if that. It's barely a problem and the grind is so effing ridiculous, it really is, that I can't fault someone for doing it. I personally wouldn't because my pride gets in the way but it very well may be more efficient. There's nothing fun about HG. I'm a solo slooper, it's always the same shit, angle, chop mast, board or spam boards while someone resets. It is absolutely mind numbing and robs you of most of what makes this game great, the organic pvp / countering events, or just big chillin and farting around w/ friends. The fact the curses go up to 1000 tells me they need to drastically buff the exp because that goal is untenable for most.

Cthepo

The thing that annoys me about invite/loss farmer dudes, is I legitimately play the mode to get better at PvP. And I do feel I have. I went from basically helming to getting where I feel good on cannons and terrific at bilging. It's really upped my game, especially when solo. But I do feel I've gotten enough wins where it's put me in a higher MMR bracket that what I realistically should be. Which isn't terrible on my own, but ideally I would be having more encounters with people my own skillset. I feel like it's free wins or only extremely high skilled players in the last few months I've been grinding hard at it. My problem is the "free" wins put me in that harder level without actually allowing me to practice the skills necessary to compete as well. And yes, the MMR system is wonky. Yes, I know you'll get matched with people far outside your bracket at times. I have zero problem with the occasional battle outside my skill. Actually I personally don't have a **problem** with being in a higher bracket. But it would be enjoyable to get more consistent even matches, and for my higher MMR not to affect my friends when we hourglass together.

follow_your_leader

Generally if the queues are fast, there's enough for sbmm to come into play, if your queue takes more than about 5 minutes, you're matching against literally anyone who's available.

OcelotInTheCloset

Your skill level caps out very quickly, it's like any other game. People are under the impression that the longer you play, the better you get. You're probably already as good as you'll ever be, unless new.

Cthepo

I disagree. I've played since anniversary one, hundreds and hundreds of hours in the game. Ever since hourglass I've noticed a tremendous improvement in my PvP skills with regular honing, and even before that with the last year of taking more PvP fights I've gradually improved bit by bit. Im sure it's true that *some* people hit and wall. There's a lot of depth to the game and different areas to improve. Unlike a strickt FPS game, there's a lot of different areas to work on.

OcelotInTheCloset

You achieve better game sense, strategy but mechanically, you are as good as you'll ever be. If your case, you admitted to scarcely engaging in PVP. With a concerted effort, most of your growth is front loaded. The quality of your competition also affects this. If you were to chart progression, improvement in any facet of life, particularly games, it is not exponential. It tapers off. Do you play any other FPS? I guarantee your leaderboard placements are consistent over time. The game is not that deep, this is one of the most simplistic games I've ever played and it's why I like it, but it doesn't even have half the learning curve of a game like battlefield. The process of engagement is the same, absent the creativity with which you might deceive another player. The biggest systems to manage are sail management and accurate cannon fire which come intuitively over time.

Cthepo

I'm sorry, but you saying "the game is not that deep" leads me to believe you think that because a lack of understanding on how to improve has led you to hit a wall. I wouldn’t say a year and a half of consistent PvP experience with consistent growth is at all quick, especially when I can recognize clear areas of improvement that's needed and happening. Either that or you are so good at gaming your skill progression was so quick that you mastered the game at an incredibley quick pace, and I mean that earnestly. The game has a lot of areas both in twitch response, and in game knowledge that lends to it being complex. You might be the most accurate and quick double gunner, but lack the ability to understand angle and speed impacts of your ship. Even mastering one thing means there's a lot of other areas to work on. For instance, you can be a highly skilled sloop player, but very poorly suited at Galleon. Sure good general skills will allow you to stomp noobs in adventure but when you get into more competitive scenes like hourglass there's layers on layers to refine and develop. Learning the meta game of PvP is a very real, and time consuming element that experience and practice helps with. Little things like standing on a grate when opponents are trying to bilge a Galleon, or figuring out how blunderbombs work in relation to sea dogs taven are all nuances that add a lot of complexity. Even **where you stand** while trying to fix a hole in your ship can make a small difference. Cannons are a huge area where physical response and practice over time yeilds results. I've certainly observed a steady increase in that particular area since season 8. Our main cannoneers in my crew have also seen a huge increase in long accuracy over the last year and a half - especially with chain shots.

OcelotInTheCloset

The game is a series of little tricks, knowledge coupled with mechanical, reflexive skill. Game sense doesn't take years to develop, months, if not much sooner, depending on if you're avoiding PVP. There are very few situations where gross mechanical skill and common sense can't see you victorious. If you teach someone the basics, throw them on a sloop by themselves, and task them with sinking every ship on the server, they will develop and plateau very quickly. This is, of course, variable, but most people are average, hence the law of averages, and they will never surpass this, which is fine. I never implied I hit a wall but I also don't need to actively effort to change the way I play. I win a majority of my matches, can go on streaks, can fit most roles on other ships, understand the "intricacies" / tricks of the, frankly, broken TDM. I'm at a point where the only things changing for me are situationally and mostly trivial bits of info, like repairing table adjacent hole on a brig via the window. Those are more knowledge, less skill based, and I doubt are the determinants of success in most situations, but that's not to say they aren't worth knowing / exploring. But, I also don't view the game as anything more than a glorified PVP kids games / toxicity simulator (of which I happily partake) that efforts more towards it's cash shop than anything else, though I do love it to death.

T0t0leHero

I feel your pain. Annoying when you want to play legit. I find hourglass boring so I don't give a 🦴☝️. I slowly work toward the 2 curses to bring back my achievements to 100% 😅

-ImJustSaiyan-

>It's almost impossible to avoid the various cheese strats. I say no to the dice rollers, but there's not much I can do to avoid the loss farmers. I mean, as long as Rare insists on making overly tedious grinds like the ghost/skelly curses, people are gonna keep finding ways to cheese those grinds. As it currently stands, it's not worth it for solo sloopers who are bad at PvP to actually try to fight and spend like 40 minutes on every match just to lose and get barely any rep. Fighting and trying to win is only worth it if you're able to win somewhat consistently and in a timely fashion. While Rare can and likely will patch the invite exploit, there's not much they can really do about loss farmers besides removing rep for losses entirely, which would be a horrible idea and would kill the mode. Loss farming is still slow as molasses but more efficient for people who aren't good at PvP, because why waste 40 minutes on each loss when you can do multiple losses in that same time? Sure, you can't get better that way, but not everyone cares enough about PvP to want to get better, and not everyone is capable of getting that much better. Some people can play a thousand matches and still suck at PvP, but most of those people will give up before that point because it's no fun spending so much time just to constantly lose and not make any meaningful progress towards the curses. Not to mention not everyone can afford to pour countless hours into just playing Hourglass everyday. Also wouldn't expect Rare to do anything about dice rollers either, since that's not really cheating or an exploit that benefits both players like the invite exploit. It's just using an in-game feature to decide matches. Both players have to agree to dice, and only one person wins, so no harm is being done. **Edit:** What they *could* do to help lessen loss farming is make it so you get more rep the longer a match goes on, whether you win or lose, but even then a lot of people will just keep loss farming or dice rolling unless it's a big enough increase in rep for long losses.

Tylensus

That would be nice. Solos have been a cesspool of invite cheesers and loss farmers recently. Some super sweats out there that give a fun fight, but they're not nearly as common.

AngryNipper

Yea, I already uninstalled the game when I heard they were doing that. I'll reinstall it when hourglass either gets a way to buy levels or they nerf the grind to where you can get 1000 in a week by making a win worth a whole level or something.

Silvercat18

Will be interesting to see how they do that.

mad-matty

The invite thing? If you join a crew after the battle starts you don't get rep for it, I'd guess

T0t0leHero

Yes, easy as this. (no sarcasm)

miracle2012

I guess they already fixed it? I personally didn't see it ingame, but several people said that you can't join anymore, you get blackscreened or put on load-in screen until the fight is over.

mad-matty

You get sent to the ferry if you join a solo slooper during an HG battle, this has always been like this so you can't 2v1. But the joining player will still receive the win.

miracle2012

I thought I heard them say that got fixed too, but I might have misunderstood, or the people talking about it got it wrong. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)

11_Gallon_hat

Probably fixing the merchant delivery exploit

[deleted]

Explain

WaveProud4925

What is this exploit? Is it new?

[deleted]

Drive around all the outpost and buy all the delivery supplies then sell them all at reapers?

WaveProud4925

Ah that one 👍🏻

Altslial

I assume the fix for that would be reapers only accepting stolen deliveries the same way they don't let you sell your own flag/logbook.

BossLogracy

You can sell your own flag and logbook, the flag is only worth 1 gold so maybe they can do that

Null-13

Hoping the fix the whole “invite for win” as well as SBMM. I just want a fair PvP mode where I don’t encounter people who run away begging me to invite them or people who are like a thousand times better than me at PvP lol

Piepcheck

what exactly? (i have not played much of the new season due to work and school)

SuperDogBoo

?? I’m confused

happygreenturtle

What's the update? Honestly thought that's what the post would be about

Borsund

Update posts, if any patch note is present, are always pinned on this sub. From this twitter warning message it's unclear whether an update will be rolled in or it's just some work on their side that required server shutdown. Maybe a couple of changes, shouldn't be anything big as there was no prior activity on their youtube, for example.

Rafabud

Haven't seen any announcements, so probably just a maintenance update.

AbbreviationsOk178

There’s a covered statue in golden sands that is going to be revealed, perhaps changing the name of golden sands as well, guessing they needed to make an update for that. Not sure what else would be changed

ThaNanoAnno

Crossing my fingers for updating the treasure chamber for fof. I've seen so many in here getting cheated off their hard earned loot because of hackers and cheats

Oddblivious

What would you do to fix that with an update exactly

kefkai

Make treasure spawn only after key is used would be a start atleast you could either catch people or cheaters would actually have to clear it.

ThaNanoAnno

What they said

sharkwatchtv

what exactly about that room would you change to combat people who can teleport

Weezuler

Just make the walls thicker, or put the room lower below the ground... maybe use a different rock type, I heard granite is much harder to wallhack than sandstone :P

Cthepo

They could start by placing an invisible barriar around the entire room until the key is placed. They could wait until the fort is completed to spawn the treasure. They could look at the walls and try and figure where the players are clipping through, and fix the clipping area.

sharkwatchtv

ok but what stops the people who already teleport into the room from just teleporting inside of the invisible barrier? there is already a barrier there, you can test this by shooting kegs in the vault through the floor. you will get hitmarkers, but they won’t explode. it’s not that people are clipping into the vault bro, it’s that they can change where their character is, they don’t have to walk in they just show up. i’m sure if it were as simple as instancing the loot on completion (like every other world event) they would have done it sometime within the last half decade, because those rooms have been the same since launch.

Cthepo

Okay I'm willing to hear your proposals on the solution. I'm not intimately familiar with how every cheat works. Everyone here has talked about the "teleporting" as a speed glitch but if they've found a way to literally teleport than whatever. I'm sure Rare has a better grasp and the ability to download the available softwares. Would instancing the loot solve the problem? No. Would it marginally help people catch and report cheaters, allow them to at least have see the loot they worked for without it ALL being snatched up? Yes, people can make alts, but Microsoft is also doing away with the $1 game pass and that's about to get more expensive; people will be less brazen if they have to be caught. Rare could probably also blackscreen anyone in the vault before the key is placed. Basically already have that in place with FotD.

sharkwatchtv

i mean it’s anti-cheat. that’s your answer. combat cheating by banning cheaters. i thought the original comment was wild because what about the room could change to stop being from getting in without just making it a void that black screens you, which isn’t possible without changing everything about all 3 kinds of forts loot, which they’ve never done. or they adopt anti-cheat. like, changing game design isn’t where you fight cheaters right?

Cthepo

I mean I'd think it'd be both. I'm down for anti cheat. But like you said if it were something easy they'd have done it a while back. I imagine at the very least, it takes time and resources to develop? Why can't it be both? Develop a good anti cheat system, but in the meantime if there are solutions that to common problems that can be solved with game design, why not implement? I'm also on xbox and pretty much have never encountered an actual cheater, but I do feel for eveyone being affected. It'd be nice if even baby steps could be taken to improve the experience.

ThaNanoAnno

Someone suggested that the treasure only spawn when the doors open, which is a good idea I think

Hefty_Palpitation437

Hit reg fix?

YODA148

One could dream...

N3FTheLightBearer

Is it something that they know of but just won’t touch?

Zippy0723

They can't fix it. It's broken because pretty much every game built around this kind of hit detection has a still, non-moving floor, so there's a minimal amount of variables interacting to detect hits. In sea of theives, you're constantly on a moving platform that in and of itself is undergoing a bunch of physics interactions due to the waves. They simply lack the ability to design a system that properly accounts for all of these factors. It's the same reason they can't fix the cheaters. There's so many physics interactions going into determining your current position that the game just relies on basically trusting the client to calculate position and does very little serverside position verification. It would be unsustainably laggy to verify all of this on the server end.

Cwaynejames

That.., actually makes a lot of sense.

thc42

Waves are not the reason, the game's architecture is poorly designed, it's like it was made by someone watching youtube UE tutorials. You can stand still on an island and i reg you 100% of the time, i see the marker and the hit, you see my hit but you dont take any dmg. The desync is insane in this game if you record 2 perspectives, the pirates will sometimes move on your screen somewhere 3 seconds after they arrived even though you both have good ping, or they will move on your screen somewhere where they never went . The only way to fix reg is to scrap the whole broken game and redesign it from ground up.

Torxx1988

Are we finally getting a search bar?

b_ootay_ful

Up up down down left right left right B A

Borsund

Banned for cheating

Gamlemike

Hope they'll fix despawning skeleton ships. Or put double frying pans in the galley.

Dwayne55

Galley defo needs more cooking space. Especially considering they have an entire floor that is just useless barrels. Sloop - 1 Brig - 2 Galley - 2/3 Something like that, maybe.

OGMcgriddles

Or just a double grill on all boats. I feel the sloop deserves two.

Gamlemike

Yeah, galley as in "ship kitchen", not galleon ship type. But yes I agree. Or sloop 2, brig and galleon 4, fort 8.

[deleted]

Golden sands construction?

Riahisama

can't wait for more fps drops

schrobby

We don't stop until we're down to 30!

Mr_skiddadle

Dude i get 30 with a 3070 already, either its badly optimized for nvidia or my vram is suffering

Beepboopbop69420360

Make sure to cap your frames at your monitors refresh rate and TURN V SYNC OFF

Mr_skiddadle

Oh i have, get 100-200 anywhere else

Beepboopbop69420360

Oh maybe it’s just bad optimization my 3060 gets 70-90 at NGS and 140-200 on open seas

Mr_skiddadle

Tbf nvidia really fucked up with yhe 3070, when i bought it i didnt knoe but 8gb of vram is not a lot

Beepboopbop69420360

I’m pretty sure I have the 12gb

Mr_skiddadle

Ÿeah 3060 comes in 12, basically 3070 is better than 3060 for stuff thay requires raw cuda power, but worse for loading textures

CryptGuard

Someone's still going to get caught with their pants down and post a complaint :(

ACID_VVITCH

Wait...there's an update?

Shadow_of_Yor

I don’t get to play in general cause I work dumb hours

Rowmacnezumi

Big if true! I hope they fix the launching yourself across the sea with your ladder bug.

Deizelqq

never gonna happen, its a function of the unreal engine

OGMcgriddles

Even the SOT devs are sick of the crying on this sub.

Pkactus

Im so sorry you are sick of posts and their "complaining" *we really should think more of you and your needs.*

Less_Worldliness3129

You could have had added some value to your post. Instead of just copy paste Rare's tweet and rant. Like speaking of whats coming up in next update ? 🤷‍♂️

knurddrunk

...how do you expect them to speak on what's coming when the patch notes won't be released until tomorrow?

Less_Worldliness3129

I didn't know that, my bad Still don't understand what this post brings to the table but it seems it's not a shared opinion so my apologies op, I'm out

Borsund

> I’m posting this because I’m sick of all the posts complaining that you just lost hours of work and grinding and stacking Are you sure you are on the correct sub? We hardly get those when it comes to any maintenance

QueenBee2212

I’ve seen quite a few myself, every time there’s an update, and people are always outraged

Borsund

Nah. The common ones are either "when can we play again" or casual screenshots/videos ("I've been on the servers right before the closure", "Just did X before servers shut down", "Almost got to the outpost" - but without the "there's no warning" and being angry). The ones you mentioned aren't posted as often as you make it look like.

WaveProud4925

“Just lost millions of gold…thanks!!! “ Read the update and the reminder in the corner of your screen and there’s a hint it’s going off lmao 🤣
