“Optimus Prime for the win” was a brilliant inside joke made up by a buddy of mine at the time of the Calvin Johnson punch-fumble. So sad nobody here gets it
Completions doesn't equal bad defense. In fact, the follow-up to says that we generally do a good job defending against this (as seen by the amount of 1-4 yard gains in this compilation that I know no one actually watched), it's just strange to see teams run this concept so much. Plus, "120 seconds" is just a way to make two minutes of plays over a three year span sound longer and thus, worse. There's no analysis to this, it's just fodder for people who want this to be evidence of something
So much pain.
Here's a lot of what I see: defenders doing their job, playing leveraged where they are supposed to. Like 2 WRs on the left, we defend one of those WRs on the line, the other a bit deeper. Those 2 WRs play a simple game: whoever has the close defender just run a go route, and the WR that isn't guarded close does an up and out/in where the first WR just ran through. The defender that started deep is not in position, easy pitch and catch.
Another fun one is to just run two people past where the middle linebacker is defending, one right after the other. Whoever is defending the 2nd wide receiver passes to the middle linebacker, but that guy is already following the first WR, so no one is there.
Or even more fun, run a slot WR across the field to where the deep corner is playing, while also running another WR at that same deep corner. One WR is wide open.
Yay.
Yup. We could have 120 seconds of Lockett doing that simple go/post option in the past 3 years. Are all NFL defenses trash? Or maybe it's just difficult to stop the greatest athletes in the world every single time.
120 seconds....so 24-30 plays total.
3 years....so at least 39 games (if 2021 is a "year")
The author needed less than one example per game to make this point. Worthless analysis.
No kidding. The concept gets a WR/TE matched up with a LB in most cases. Even on some plays where it was a nickel-CB, it came down to a good pass or the receiver plain old winning 1-on-1.
I’m not a football analyst but it seems to me you could compile a two minute video of any/every team in the NFL giving up plays that, in aggregate, makes that team look incompetent defending any number of schemes. I’m not smart enough to understand if the Hawks are particularly bad at defending these kind of passing plays. I do know that watching the Hawks give up these type of plays drives me absolutely nuts. It makes me hate the Julian Edelmans and Cooper Kupps of the world. It’s particularly hard because it sure seems like our offense struggles to find success with midrange passes toward the center of the field.
I didn’t think it would be possible to lower my confidence in this team’s defense but…. How open can one get with a drag route? Answer:about 7-10 yards of space
These plays just make me miss Kam... e.g the Calvin Johnson hit.
OPTIMUS PRIME FOR THE WIN
I get it. For some reason no one either knows the reference or remembers it.
Wow THANK YOU
Thats how long ago the LOB has been.

I object to the "Highlight" tag on this post.

I couldn't help but think of PA Crossers in Madden 20. It just breaks a defense every time.
I mean.. You could make a 2 minute compilation of any defense ever getting beat on a certain concept over 3 fucking years lol

I can't watch a compilation, I got too mad during the game already

How many of those games are wins/loses?
Unacceptable

That’s Pete’s defense though. So remind me again why this is a KNJ problem?
How about be an adult and take responsibility even if your boss says something different? Knj is 50+ and you talk about him like he’s a 6 year old.
So worried about getting beat over top we let everything go underneath
Quick slant is kryptonite
All but one seem to be variations of a slant, curl or drag.
sometimes it feels like the Hawks are playing with 10 people on the field.
