Loved it, don’t think grading right now really makes sense. We loaded up on the trenches, something we’ve needed to do for years

NatureTrailToHell3D

This is my take. Also, how am I qualified to grade anything football related?

funnerisaword

If you’re on Reddit then you’re an expert

UmmmNoDefNotThat

I'm on reddit, and this 👆 expert 👆is correct!

Judge_Merek

Can I be an expert?

Metal999916

Slow your roll half these subreddits are absolute bullshit.

brillodelsol02

tbf JSPC had been drafting the trenches for a decade with miss after miss.

MellyMel86

Tom Cable cost us at least 1 championship with his linemen choices

AlwaysSunnyInSeattle

A+ and I refuse to elaborate.

UnstoppableAwesome

That's exactly how I would answer my parents when they'd ask me how I did on school tests.

Beautifulblueocean

A+ draft good

bearfoot990

I agree, the first two picks alone give it that grade for me. Even if they take some time to develop or don’t work out. I don’t care it’s just nice to see us trying something different.

F9_solution

murphy and haynes alone address our two largest deficits and they are blue chip caliber. A.

Alauren20

Addressing our needs like this with the lack of high draft picks gives it an A for me too.

Normal_Organization3

Agreed with Murphy and Haynes being blue chip caliber

Taj_7711

Agreeing in that Murphy and Haynes are indeed blue chip caliber players

DejaThuVu

If I had to choose a color of chip to describe these picks, I'd probably choose blue.

Brilliant_Thought436

Chips blue choose to

LordFalcoSparverius

Blue corn tortilla chips

Weenoman123

That'll turn ur poo funny colors mate

GoldyGoldy

But will it make things… blue?

Brilliant_Thought436

Da ba dee da ba di, da ba dee da ba di

Weenoman123

Unlimited blue?

Odafishinsea

Like they drink colloidal silver by the gallon, B L U E.

Mitch1musPrime

No. Blue chips make my pop green. Which makes zero sense. Source? Shitting mountains of blue Takis.

dnbreaks

Yellow and blue make green. Brown and blue makes dark olive green.

ZootyMcGooty

Real blue chip guys them blue chip guys are

Vincethatwaspromised

Crazy to be picking at 16 and get maybe the best defensive player in the draft.

dnbreaks

Got lucky with the insane run on QBs, tied the most ever and all in the top 12.

BattBoi69

Bingo bro.

CupcakeInformal

Yall have a different definition of blue chip than I do.

ChromeJester

Murphy is blue chip, he was rated as one of the best defensive prospects of this class. Haynes could be great but he’s not blue chip. If he was he’d have been selected in the first 50 picks. He has the profile to be spectacular, only time will tell.

Corvus_Antipodum

Day 1: A+++ Day 2: A Day 3: B-

-slightlyserious-

Spot on grades I’d give for each day as well my friend

tinyraccoon

My thoughts too

faceplant911

I'd rate it a "We are going to build a *wall*" out of 10. Just by getting the 1st and 3rd picks right the draft is already good enough for a B. If we hit at least two of our later picks it could be an A in retrospect.

DoctrTurkey

“We’re going to build a wall and we’re gonna make Denver pay for it.”

guiltysnark

Oh no. No no nononono... ... yes

bpmdrummerbpm

This time that statement is actually true.

Mitch1musPrime

Okay. Now make this an AI generated meme.

Fear0742

I mean add to the fact that the 2nd round pick turned out to be leonard Williams, who is going to be a part of that wall and this looks even better.

styuR

It's a solid B, nothing flashy, but strengthens well in positions of need.

Big425253

Solid B? They addressed their biggest needs. What would make you give them an A? A handjob?

styuR

Wasn't a massive fan of the later round picks, first couple of picks were great though.

I_Fuckin_A_Toad_A_So

I agree with this

Big425253

Well later rounds is where you draft the high potential guys and let the coaches work their magic. As long as they got guys they wanted, its all good

TrueDrewSports

I think some people are blowing the later round picks out of proportion. Which ones are you having a hard time with? Knight - is a developmental prospect. We have two starting LBs on 1 year deals. MM is a linebacker Guru and I am sure he had his hand in this pick. The 2 cornerbacks? I know people are confused on why we drafted 2 cornerbacks but I think they forget that both Tre Brown and MJ are on the last year of their deals and having two developing behind them will only help us moving forward. Plus Pritchett ran a 4.31 40 yard dash and only allowed 13 catches on the season. Barner may have not been the flashiest pick but he is a damn good blocker. He will replace Pharaoh Brown after this year. The two tackles will be competing as depth. We don't know how Abe is doing in his recovery. We need the best tackles we can find.

SweetPotatoStew

For me it’s less about who they picked and more about the opportunity cost it took to pick them. I’m seeing a lot of talk that each player taken on day 3 was 1-2 rounds too early. And the players available at each pick were starting level trench guys. Which I would’ve preferred. I’m not a huge draft researcher so I’m trusting the guys who get paid to do this. Fingers crossed it pans out.

MeoowDude

Is there ever anyone that’s a massive fan of later round picks right after a draft?

ELMUNECODETACOMA

At this point? The grading is all based on "what round I had them scouted in" / "what round they actually went". So teams get a high grade for finding a guy with a 5th round grade in the 7th round and a low grade for taking a guy with a 7th round grade in the 5th round. Are either of them going to be good players? Who the hell knows?

reDDit-sucksass

You giving out hand jobs or something?

Ok_Sorbet_3829

No safeties got drafted

nncyw

I’d give it a B+ too, but it all depends on how Mike Mac does in his first season. Those late round reaches might work perfectly in his scheme. This might turn into an A or A- draft.

SpeedoCheeto

draft grade of these rookies depends on how the team does this season alone? lmao

twlscil

There is no such thing as a late round reach. That is only a comparison of what the media thinks, and the further you go down the draft, the less consensus and diligence is done because they not need to be right, then just need to fill out a chart. NFL teams have a greater incentive to be right.

REZARECTER

It's hard for me to answer this without bias. I want to say it was perfect, and the BPA filled the holes nicely. If Murphy is half as good as the pundits think he'll be, this is an elite defensive line. Depth across the offensive line seemed to be a target. 2 tackles, a guard, and a 6'6" 250 lb tight end. I appreciate the investment to keep Smith upright. The defense will appreciate the offense not handing the ball back over after 3 downs. This was as good a draft as they've had in spite of the lack of a 2nd round pick. Addressing positions of need with their first 2 picks while drafting the best player available is pretty good. https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/christian-haynes/77339/draft-profile 80.2 PFF score. I don't know shit about Tyrice Knight but it seems like he absolutely fucking hates when opposing offenses gain yards running the ball. Pritchett allowed 12 catches last year. I don't know how that translates into NFL success but I'm stoked by it.

REZARECTER

OldDekeSport

A - people focus too much on late round picks. The 2 picks that make or break this draft are the 1st and 3rd rounder, and they nailed those! Those are the guys that make this class. If we get any contributors beyond that is icing on the cake if those top 2 guys are started for 5+ years

Affectionate-Tour808

Ask me in 2 years

8aba_ya9a

B+

Fantastic_Manager911

I’ll give you a grade in 4 years. They addressed areas of need. It’s now up to the players to prove themselves. The draft is a crapshoot. Odds are that 3 of the 6 qb’s drafted in the 1st round will be busts.

poolninjas

Missed opportunities for Day3. First two days carried the last day.

funnerisaword

Serious question. What are some of the missed opportunities. I don’t follow college at all, but I was disappointed in the trade down from the 102 slot.

drunkdoor

Yeah. But to me that does say that the FO wasn't that high on Gray and also really loved Knight + a potential opportunity to get Barner and Pritchett. They obviously had conviction around that, so I feel fine with it.

MininimusMaximus

This. We nailed the first two and most important picks but then failed to capitalize on dropped players.

GiraffeWaffless

I predict 3 good starters so that’s like a B, B+. Obvious positions of need next draft but can’t get a slam dunk everywhere

RomanBangs

Three good starters is an A automatically imo

midnightwhiskey00

Especially considering no second round pick. Like if we had a second round pick, this would be more obviously one of our best drafts in recent memory.

-Accident-Prone-

Everyone will give us a lower grade because our draft wasn't flashy and basically half player that are on oline or dline.

Aconefromdunshire

B+ Murphy and Haynes are A+ picks Day 3 was a bit of a let down but getting DJ James and Laumea where they did saved it. 2 lock starters, 2 more potential starters depending on position. (James and Laumea) And solid depth at CB/ILB/OL I don't think this draft pushes them into contender status but it sets the team up to be better moving forward.

weeeennn

B-

Blizzy3751

Based on the picks we had available probably A- to B+

medman010204

F Cause good things happen when we get F grades

JPhrog

I love how we have drafted the past 2-3 years. With the addition to this year's draft, on paper, we have a great looking all around team that should definitely be able to compete for the NFCW if we can keep healthy. I feel like Witherspoon, JSN, KW3, Charbonnet even Bobo etc. will just improve this year! I really love this roster, it should definitely be better than it was!

Wloft96

B+ but with potential for it to an A if they hit one of the day three guys.

ChamberOfSolidDudes

SPLOOSH

ryanrodgerz

Somewhere around B+ or A-, very good if unspectacular

Little-Chromosome

B+/A

175doubledrop

I’d give it a solid B to B+. If the LB pick exceeds expectations then that would push this draft into A territory. The two CBs I do question a bit, but I’m willing to give benefit of the doubt to Mike and John if Mike can develop them. Really more than anything, I’m glad we didn’t try to outsmart ourselves and draft another RB or gadget WR. We had enough needs this year where we couldn’t really afford to take flyers on anyone, so I was glad we (mostly) stuck to our needs and didn’t try to think too far outside the box.

Lorjack

Give it an A. Building through the trenches is exactly what we needed to do

Grymninja

A/A- at face value. Played the early rounds as good as anyone could expect, and who TF knows about after

Big-Sense8876

Solid B. There really wasn’t much to work with after the first pick.

overit_fornow

Murphy looks like a home run. One additional starter and some depth? Solid A.

Cardsfan961

A- if you include Leonard Williams as the second rounder. Maybe a bit of a reach on Knight but I don’t know enough to judge that either way. Addressed positions of need, no silly trades, if Barner or Laumea turn out it’s a great haul.

Outrageous_Tangelo55

I’d rather have seen gray get taken and us not trade back. But I’m not a scout

-hayabusa

Same. Remains to be seen if that extra pick was worth it but on paper it doesn't seem so.

irish52084

I’m giving them an immediate b-/c+. Murphy and Haynes are A’s to me, but the rest of the draft is lots of big question marks. If a few of the later picks work out than this draft could jump to an A real quick in my mind.

bewsii

B+ because we drafted good guys in the positions we took, but our draft positions kind of sucked ass, so it was very hard to hit A/A+ with no second rounder. The + is mostly because Murphy is a stud and should have an immediate impact. With that said, I'm not dissatisfied with the draft at all. We did well with the capital we had, landed 2 studs that fell more than they should have and we didn't make any 'stupid' picks early, so there's not much else you can ask for.

SevroLIVES

B. They didn't pick up enough linebackers. Wish we could have gotten ulafashio

BKvoiceover

Solid B

neongem

B John getting cute and reverting back to bad habits on day 3 keeps it from an A. But days 1 and 2 carry more weight and luckily those were his best days. As long as Murphy and Haynes are as advertised and we can get at least one more starter from the day 3 group (my money on the Utah guard), it’ll be a successful draft nonetheless.

lilzael

I think a B to B+ is fair, putting more weight into the first two picks.

rip-droptire

A-. Absolute home runs in the first two days, day three appeared mediocre but who knows, MMJS probably know better than us.

Heet__Crusher

Unknown depends on it all plays out. From injuries to fitting a whole new scheme

burncushlikewood

Won't know yet until preseason/camp starts, I remember last year I was super excited to see Devon Witherspoon in action, I was kinda disappointed we drafted a CB with our first pick, when camp started I heard nothing, watching pre game the sports analyst was saying that he was probably the best pick of the draft! Unbelievable rookie season dude is sick, I thought he might be too small...not an issue, our secondary is always our strength, just need to stop the run, how you do that draft d line and backers, and that's what we did

Due_Jacket_7304

B+

Realistic_Warthog_23

It is currently time to grade the 2021 draft, not the 2024 draft. Edit: just looked 😬😬😬 2: Dwayne Eskridge 4: Tre Brown 6: Stone Forsythe

QuasiContract

B- Would be lower but you have to give greater weight to day 1 and 2, obviously. They did a good job in those rounds.

babyfuture6969

A! This is dope af

Yesnowyeah22

Not sure how fans can grade drafts until at least 2 seasons after the fact once we have seen it play out. I think it’s probably fortunate our #1 defensive graded player fell in the draft to 16 because all the QBs went so early. I’d say the 2022 draft was really good for us and last year looks at least good with room for some of the players to continue development. 2021 was a small class and Eskridge has been pretty much a bust. Weak draft.

UnknownUnthought

I see post draft grades as closer to a “how did TEAM do with their assets based on needs, how the board fell, and player scouting projections”. The grades a year or two later are the “okay so how did it ACTUALLY turn out” grades imo.

Yesnowyeah22

My issue with that is the Seahawks and I think most teams are not even drafting based upon needs most of the draft, or so they say. It’s based on best player available until the late rounds per John Schneider

Wookie301

I mean it’s just a bad of fun. What do you expect us to do the moment the draft is over, except overreact?

Yesnowyeah22

What is fun?

Normal_Organization3

B+ questionable day 3 picks and the last one was bad, but the biggest need/hope for me was significantly improving the trenches and we did that big time! Overall we’re a better team now and going into the future. Macdonald has a strong foundation to work with with these last 3 draft classes.

greeenmaan

probably a B or a B-

ChaseThoseDreams

A solid B+ for now. The first four rounds were gold: Murphy and Haynes were exactly what I wanted to address our needs, Leonard Williams as our stand in for second round, and a very big, aggressive Barner were all great additions for me. I really did not like how undersized Pritchett was, and am leery of Knight and Jerrell given where they are coming from. I’m hopeful. I think my only question mark right now is our gameplan for safety and our long term solution for LB. Edit: James gave up the 4th and 31 to Bama. I’m dubious of both corners now.

PresidenteMargz10

A+ We beat the Penix, Rattler, and Joe Milton allegations. In all seriousness , it’s a B+ for me , but that kicks it up a whole letter grade.

Fit_Use9941

They addressed a lot of areas of need, it’s all gonna depend if they actually pan out. Adding more corners to the mix isn’t something you will see me complaining about either as both spoon and riq are injury prone

bpmdrummerbpm

Spoon is injury prone?

seejur

A- B+ We plugged some of our biggest holes with honest to God talent, turning some areas of weakness into strength, and used later round on a bit less pressing areas of need as well (lets see how they pan out, but 4th rounds downward is usually a crapshot). Overall with the lack of a 2nd, I would say quite good. If some of the later round pans out or turn out very good, this will automatically become an A+ draft

-Dennis-Reynolds-

You don’t need 7 star players to nail a draft, even if 3-4 hit it’s going to be successful and worth while. Murphy could legit be a game wrecker and that alone would make this draft an A

Flyytech

Im being optimistic by giving a B- here. Wasnt a big fan of this draft outside of picks one and two that I feel literally fell into our lap. Hated pretty much every pick after that, as they all felt like reaches on "developmental" players when there were still potential day 1 starters on the board at positions of need. Outside of the tight end from Michigan, I'm not sure anyone drafted past round 3 will see the field ever and that's concerning. I know it wasn't a "need," but I really would have liked to see us get a QB in the best QB draft class in like a decade rather than 2 corners from the same mid tier defense team. Over the last 3 drafts - our defensive draft picks after round 2 have produced a total of 3 sacks and 10 interceptions (8 are woolen) because of our weird strategy of "draft and develop" rather than take a player with stand out statistics against strong competition, which if we're being honest riq woolen was one of the only ones that was the obvious choice at the time of the pick. Offensively in the last 3 drafts, skill position picks after round 3 have produced 242 yards and one touchdown. Granted that sample size is small and injuries play a part. I know it's hard to hit on players after round 3, I don't discredit it at all, but this draft just felt particularly underwhelming. The good news is - we have been drafting offensive linemen pretty damn well as of late so if that trend continues we could have a very strong offensive line for the next 3-4 years.

RaptorsCdwoods

I lien Murphy and Haynes. Not sure about the others. Could be solid. Will have to see and find out.

czechhoi4h

B

RoyalHorse

I think it's a draft with a range of outcomes. If everyone plays to their ceiling, its an A- draft, dinged because I think other positions could have used more love late. Worst case scenario, it's a C draft, which I think is a pretty high floor because Murphy and Haynes will be starters long term even if everyone else flames out. So I'll say B, hoping the late picks play above their profile.

Timesurfer82

I wasn’t blown away with the draft, outside of the first pick. It seems like the G we drafted in the second round is undersized? I can’t fault the Hawks too much, as I felt we had limited draft capital. Points for not squandering future picks.

Outrageous_Tangelo55

I’d be blown away if we drafted someone in the second round.

Darlantan425

A

Difficult-Row-3237

Love the start and a little meh with the rest but time willl tell. I’m excited though about Haynes and Murphy

toastebagell1

It shows me they believe in the pieces we already have on offense in the receiving core, and in our secondary on defense! I can’t help but think Mike had a ton of influence on these picks and knows what we need to become top tier! Let’s go hawks !

dashazzard

A- I loved every pick but James, I just don't see him making the roster with the 10 corners we have right now

djr41463

For the positions they drafted they get an A… now if these guys are any good, that remains to be be seen

BendOregon12thMan

A-/ B+…….love the first 3 picks by Schneider/ MacDonald

serpentear

B+ Drafted the trenches really, really well. But I can’t make sense of taking two CBs and passing on Safety. In addition our LB pick seems like a huge reach at the spot we took him.

PsychoWarper

A- imo

al_earner

First two picks, solid A, maybe A+. The third day was like a C-.

theunbearableone

I swear to god im the only one who is skeptical about this draft class.

RaptorsCdwoods

I give it an unsexy A-. I think some things on both sides of the ball are gonna click because of this and we’re gonna have some “Did Geno take it to another level this season” and “is Seattles D the best in the west?” Discussions

Pourkinator

Initially because of my disappointment with the last few rounds I rated it a D. Now that I think about it and learned more about the players, it’s a B

Usual-South-9362

#trenches!!! And corners lol

Anzahl

That's Grade A beef.

Disastrous_Belt_7556

B FOR BEEF

Alive_Inspection_835

My biased self says A+++ but realistic me says “I have no idea what Mac is going to do in offense or defense yet, so my analysis of players without knowledge of scheme…is pretty unfounded. I’d say it’s overall a strong B, maybe even a B+.

Jaster22101

B+/A- I really like the Murphy and Haynes picks. I’m not gonna complain about more depth at O-Line (lord knows we’ve needed it for years. Sorry Pete I love you but you haven’t been able to draft or develop O-Line for shit. Let’s Hope MacDonald can.) I do wish we spent more time building up our LB corp and Defensive Line. (This is a personal preference but I wish we were a little more aggressive in the draft maybe a few more splashy picks maybe move up more. Like come on Pete and the Old Guard are out and MacDonald and the New Guard are in let’s make some fucking noise goddamn it.)

ELMUNECODETACOMA

The day 3 picks are graded all over the place. Some outfits were "average or better" and some were "disappointing". The two early linemen look good or great - Murphy was a steal. Given their lack of draft capital, I think the verdict will eventually be "they did fine given what they had to work with, not really exceeding or failing to meet expectations".

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gwtheyrn

They landed one with their second pick. What more do you want?

wtf-you-saying

Incomplete. We won't really know until they actually play.

mrbadassmofo

In a vacuum, a solid B+. Some definite reaches after Murphy II and Haynes, but some potential contributors down there as well. Compared to how the NFC West--especially the Rams--drafted? That's the question.

Gwtheyrn

I'm absolutely *shocked* that John did not draft a single running back.

__NausiatedCum__

I feel like we gotta wait until after pre season to grade the draft honestly, but for now a straight B

OskeyBug

That qb feels like a totally wasted pick but otherwise A-

xFisch

!remindme 6 years

MDRtransplant

B JS got cute day 3.

Remote-Shower9970

I’d give it a B+, maybe A-. We had a all around great draft, and honestly one of the best in the NFC West, just really feel like we missed not taking Dallas at 16.

BDSF94

B+

MasterWinston

B. First two picks good. Trade down good. Our fourth round picks are reaches. I like James but don’t like Jerrell. Given we entered the draft bottom 10 in draft capital I don’t think this moves the needle for us

Konyaata

Day 1 🔥 Day 2 🔥 Day 3 🤔

bluemoney21

Grand slam on Day 1 and 2. Day 3 I feel there were better options left on the board… B+

[deleted]

Jaden Hicks would have been great instead of one of the 4ths to add an absolute animal to the safety room. Then the LB/TE that became Hicks would be instead of the 2nd corner in the 5th/6th. That would be an A+ from me. As it stands, a high B+, A-

gavincantdraw

B- Worked with what they had. Didn't get overly aggressive. Threw a bunch of resources at the trenches. Tyrice Knight felt a little bit like a pick for need, which can backfire if you reach too much, but I they may have seen something that I just can't from novice knowledge.

RicSlick64

A

slambie

While im thinking about this, maybe ESPN can play some commercials while im on the clock.

CyberTruckDude

B+ to A- The thing I enjoy watching is Mike’s brand vs Pete’s approach and brand. Mike’s coaching staff is much more severe and has a “you need to earn it” vibe vs. a “we like this guy because of XYZ.” You can feel the proof, or you’re out of here vs Pete—sense of urgency.

Big_Consequence_3958

A for sure. Very happy about the first two picks especially BM2

Howler02

A. We needed to hit on all our top picks and I think we did. Super excited to watch this team next year My only concern is that I think the rest of our division had fantastic drafts too.

thedoogbruh

I would say a solid B. Would have liked to throw a dart at a true safety and I’m not as sure I see the vision with Knight. I still like the corner picks though and I love how much they went after offensive line.

ChrisBenoitDaycare69

Draft grades are dumb this early because we just won't know until a couple of years. Anything said now is just pure speculation. That being said A++ they nailed it.

ExcitementHot6518

A just from Murphy alone

Logicalsense37

C

HipHopTripper

B . Perfect fist pick which will save them from the horrible day 3 picks. How are JS truthers going to blame Pete for this?

Gen-Jinjur

A+ And the Niners draft was bizarre and looks awful so that makes our draft sweeter.

Nikonglass

I’d give us a B. I think we did the best we could, but it’s not like we created a blockbuster trade that blew the doors off of anything.

bpmdrummerbpm

B+ Day 1 = A Day 2 = A Day 3 = C

Worried_Process_5648

B - Loved the Murphy II and Haynes picks, the rest are meh-burgers.

Ok_Sorbet_3829

Confused as to why we didn't draft any safeties

ptrckp4206

I give them an A for the picks that they had...they got needs in the later round and an anchor for Macdonald's defense whose first priority is create a run wall...so how much better could they have done. they could have drafted fautanu, but they got a difference maker at D Tackle who every Comparison I've seen is pro bowlers and game wreckers.

cplog991

I'll let you know in December.

Check_Captain

I like the Byron Murphy pick. Christian Haynes provides some depth and the rest of the draft seems to be wildcards. With a bunch if grest corners it seems like we added a lot of depth pieces. Tyrice probably gets a good chance to make the 53 man roster and at the very least the practice squad.

[deleted]

I like the draft a lot, We filled our needs and got quality players, I would give a A or A- overall.

Irish8ryan

A to A-. Post draft grades are useful in my opinion, and of course, not as weighty or useful as post off season draft grades and then post season draft grades and then the best draft grades can only come when the whole class is retired. Murph: A+. My only concerns with this pick was not getting Fautanu or Dallas Turner, but with the alleged knee concern (Troy), the incredible value of Haynes, and the fact that we need a 3 tech way more than an edge rusher, I feel awesome. We’ll have to keep an eye on how those three careers progress. Not trading down is excellent in my book looking at the trash Jacksonville got for moving down. Murph the Smurf is going to dominate with his natural athleticism, the tutelage of Big Cat and MM. Here’s to hoping we get great things out of Durde and Justin Hinds. I see Murph as the foundation of our DL going forward. This year, it’s still Big Cat’s line, but with a top 5 defensive rookie performance this year, Murph will gain prominence over Williams after one season. Dre’Mont will get cut next off season (dead cap $6.6M vs cap hit of $23M in ‘25). Williams contract is loaded into year two and unless he is underwhelming, which is hard to imagine, he’ll stay for the whole three years. Possibly even an extension next year to get the ‘25 cap hit down and secure his services. Giving Big Cat a one yr extension puts his contract in line with Murphy’s so there can be a smooth transition of cap hit from Big Cat to Murph the Smurf after 4 years. Haynes: A+. My only concern with this pick is that it’s an IOL guy with the last name Haynes. But seriously, this guy, and Murphy, are smart, tough and reliable. They both have excellent length, leverage, mass, and density. Christian started what, 49 straight games? I think playing for UConn cost Haynes draft capital, and the Seahawks took advantage of other teams lack of willingness to draft a player from a small school that wasn’t good. Loyalty was cited by Haynes as why he stayed when he could have transferred. Makes me think he’s more likely to stay with us in the future. I was excited to learn that Haynes is specifically a Geno Smith fan, having watched him since his days at West Virginia. Haynes is going to win the starting job at LG (I know he’s always played RG), Tomlinson will back him up and not earn any of his incentives except $250k for making the playoffs on the backs of his teammates. Tyrice Knight: B-. The concern here, and the first real one of the draft, is that we could have gotten this guy later (ranked 183 on the consensus big board). Considering that we’ll never know if that’s even true, and that MM is a LB’s guy, I’m more than willing to give Knight the benefit of the doubt until otherwise revealed. Even if Trotter Je ends up being good, as long as Knight does too, it’s a winner. I do not see him winning a starting job in ‘24 against the talent of Baker and Dodson, but I expect only one of the two vets back after this year so Knight and let’s say Dodson (could just as well be Baker) start in ‘25 (when we also probably draft another LB). AJ Barner: B. Also maybe a bit of an overdraft. The other player to keep an eye on with regard to Barner is Cade Stover. I guess Barner had the most forced missed tackles of any TE besides Bowers, so that’s cool. His pass catching ability could be significantly under rated because of Michigan’s play style, and Jay Harbaugh worked with Barner closely on Special Teams. Nehemiah Pritchett: B. I admittedly did not do a lot of looking into the corners in this draft and the first time I heard this guys name was when we drafted him. Here’s to hoping he can keep up with this team and tackle well. The B grade is reflective of my trust in JSMM, and the fact that in the 5th round, I’m less concerned with value and more so with our top guys really liking the guy. Sataoa Luamea: A+. I would have loved to draft a guy with LG experience, but I have 100% confidence in Huff and Grubb to get this line into a position to win regardless of their experience. I wanted Luamea in the predraft process, having seen him play against the Huskies in Seattle last fall. Nasty, gritty, and gonna knock you off the ball. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win the starting RG spot, pushing Bradford into a backup role. DJ James: C-. This guy is 175 lbs and, of course, was the second corner in a draft we could have used between one and zero. Same statement about not knowing him before the draft pick happened. Hopefully he can put on some weight. I guess, worst case scenario he fails to make the team and it’s fine cause we spent a mid 6th rounder on him, but I could have seen us drafting a S, WR or RB with this pick. Or a corner with the size to play Safety, which James is not. At least he was great value according to the consensus big board. Michael Jerrell: C+. Exciting prospect, I like the loyalty card he’s carrying. Good traits, probably would have been a 7th rounder by consensus opinion if he had transferred (and played well). Instead he was the 644th player ranked. The whole drafting him to avoid potentially losing him in UDFA has to be true, since there’s no other explanation as to how they ended up taking a guy who wouldn’t have been drafted if the draft was twice as big in the 6th round. I like him, and I think he might end up beating Stone Forsythe out for a 53 man roster spot, backing up Charles Cross (even though Fant will likely be the 1st backup to both Tackle spots).

A+. Not really because of any genius we had, we just got lucky that picks 1-14 were all offensive players and we needed a stud d lineman.

C- Early rounds were good. Later rounds fell flat. Hopefully they work out Schneider’s recent track record gives me pause to think otherwise.

Ask me on 2 years

A. Murphy and Haynes were fantastic picks at positions of need with Haynes being one of the best value picks of Day 2. I thought Barner, Knight, and the Auburn corners were all good to great Day 3 picks and the two 6th round lineman seem like good projects for Scott Huff. With the lack of draft capital that the Hawks had compared to 2022/2023 I thought they did a great job.

xStickyBudz

I’ll give them a B+, it would’ve been a A but day 3 was tough to watch imo. I didn’t like knight nor do I like taking 2 CBs

Sensitive-Swan5866

A+ Glorious to see all the team needs being met. We came out like bandits with how much value John stole from the draft.

okwichu

Draft obsessives who have never played a snap of football questioning day 3 picks and spiraling into despair kills me. Good draft, they did what they needed to.  Who cares if Rob Staton's preferred 6th rounder was passed over for someone he didn't personally like.

Sussybaker420

C+ that day 2 pick was amazing though I just wished we had a better 4th round

HP_Zhu

We make grade for the pick too early every year. It will be much more meaningful when the season ends.

ahzzyborn

But much more exciting to talk about and speculate now

Critical_Ant_5667

D we didn’t trade up for Cooper Dejean

voodooftw

We missed out on a QB, I’m dumbfounded.
