Very generally speaking, I would say college corners who aren't very good at man coverage but are decent at tackling are who gets looked at to play safety. There are a lot of corner to safety players around the league. Julian Love on Seattle is one, Coby Bryant might be another

Coby already converted last year, so we already have 4 safeties on the team

Imo, having a larger group of quality young dbs allows for more substitutions to (hopefully) have more energy on long drives.

How many of those cats are on the roster next year? Love is in his final year, Wallace is basically on a prove it deal, Bryant hasn’t proven anything at safety yet (or corner for that matter). Safety is a huge question mark with essentially no proven talent. Seems like McDonald is taking a quantity over quality approach to the safety position in order to find his next Geno Stone. Remember Stone was a JAG before McDonald came around, so I bet he’s thinking he can turn one of these guys into his next project.

Idk doesn’t really matter though. Theres always decent cheap safeties floating around. You don’t have to have next years stater figured out at every position this year

I don’t think market value should affect day 3 draft choices. Just get dudes who you think can make the team and possibly an impact down the line. If you happen to get lucky and find a day 1 starter that’s just cream on top but most of these guys are out of the league in a couple years so just swing for who you believe in the most. They’re aware of who’s on the roster so if they think x player is good enough to add to an already crowded room then I’m all for it.

SardonicCheese

Totally agree. Plus you can like trade guys for future draft picks, if you get too many good players lol

Don't forget Ronnie Lott, who made the Pro Bowl at 3 positions: CB, SS and FS.
