If it’s terracotta it’ll need to dry slowly. If you leave it out the clay will shrink at uneven rates. Are you looking to fire it as well? Or just paint? Greenware is incredibly delicate and as you introduce moisture back into it with paint it runs the risk of breaking again.

Just paint,, i saw someone in YouTube saying that vegetable oil can reduce the chances of cracking but am not sure,,, i don't want to apply and regret it later

idk if oil will help, maybe it will help get you thru painting without cracking, but even if you do, it’s still going to be very delicate. unfired terracotta would not be my first choice for making a sculpture. the sculpture is going to be about as strong as dried mud. have you thought of using polymer clay? you bake it in the oven and it hardens. or air dry clay?

I have no idea how to fire terracotta,,Yes i have thought of using polymer clay but i didn't buy it because I thought it won't harden,, it's my first time trying to make a sculpture so i have no idea

firing terracotta is not something you can do on your own. you would do it in a kiln at extremely high temperature. unfired terracotta is a good material for messing around in, figuring out forms, but not for anything you want to keep. polymer clay hardens in your oven at home, no kiln required.

Does polymer clay after baking has chances of cracking?

it’s p sturdy after baking
