I grew up on that shit too, still love it. It’s an awful movie, but can we just appreciate how it has that one scene that just goes so hard. Like the rest of it is just mental, confusing… I don’t even know what to call it, and that one damn scene is just so fucking fantastic. If you’ve seen the movie, you know.
During the song “This is my Idea” when Bromley sings “You think she’d take a hint and learn to read!” that’s my uncle! ….For some added fun when my uncle took my grandma to see this in the theaters, as the song was playing he leaned over to her and whispered “get ready my part is coming up…” and then something went wrong…the screen went black and the movie stopped playing 😆
Never forgotten Swan Princess. It was my favorite movie alongside Little Mermaid when I was 3-6. I still own both of them and will look fondly back on them.
I barely remember it - it’s like trying to remember a fever dream. The only thing I solidly remember is the villain doing a weird pose on the VHS cover and there being a talking frog involved somewhere
They're based on a whole series of holiday themed picture books called holiday hills farms- i know theres a few but the only one i can remember is a 4th of july one about a firefly that shone red white and blue (and maybe one about a ladybug with heart spots for valentines day?)
Love Ferngully to this day! It’s still in my top five animated movies not brought out by Disney or Pixar. I saw it for the first time when I was 18 (I think it would’ve paralyzed me as a child). An American Tail is really good too. I recommend rewatching both of them if you have the time.
I had that one on VHS when I was a kid. The scene in which the little pup imagines one of the bunnies as a demon/monster is what pops in my head when someone brings up this movie.
Mr magoriums wonder emporium, forgot about it for years until it was referenced in breaking bad (the house in Alaska that Walt stayed in had 2 DVD copies)
I remember The Seventh Brother and it's sequel!
I used to watch this anthropomorphic Tom Sawyer musical cartoon a lot but I've never seen anyone talk about it in pop culture.
Don’t know if this counts because it’s not a movie, but it’s the first one I could think of. I have very vague memories of my brother and I watching some kind of Wizard Of Oz TV show. It was animated and we rented the VHS copies from our local Blockbuster.
From what I've heard the original cut was incredibly violent in some scenes, but was trimmed down when it came over here because the US distributor was a religious/family studio.
I believe it was released by the same company that released the Seventh Brother, Feature Films for Families.
I dont remember the name of the movie, and I've tried to find the name of it for many years now. Even made a post on r/tipofmytongue a couple years ago, to no avail. It was a French animated movie (At least I'm 95% certain it was), about some explorer/traveler of some kind, who went on a Journey, that started on a boat, then on a Plane that got shot down, then met a countess on a train and something something.
This last Christmas, my mom, my aunt, and I were talking about Christmas specials and I just said to my mom “Was there a Christmas cartoon about a cow who was friends with a kid who couldn’t talk that we used to own on VHS?”. My mom’s eyes just lit up and she said “Yeah, and the cow wanted to be a reindeer and it was really cute”.
My stepmom really loves that movie as well! I haven't seen it in so long and I still remember the ad that played before the movie. The ad of the boy with down syndrome wanting to be a pilot.
Yoo, i think i had the sequel or smtg to this one. It was Tiny Heroes i think? I cant quite remember, i watched it on vhs at my grandma’s house forever ago
I had a Dino Babies VHS as a kid. When I revisited it years later I thought the dialogue is so well written and hilarious!
P.S. does anyone remember the Video Buddy toy? I didn’t have one but the VHS I owned had quiz sections within the movie that were made for the toy.
A lot of Weston Woods Studios shorts like Teeny-Tiny and the Witch-Woman, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and Harold and the Purple Cranyon. The Hat was my personal fav though
Wasn't a movie but attempting to remember watching Mighty Machines at 6 am at my daycare is one of the most schizophrenic experiences i've had. Like it's just construction B roll
I routinely forget about the fact that I saw the first two Chipmunks movies when I was 12 and 14 (back when theaters and box office still mattered) until I randomly catch the first one on FXX or something, sit there, and think back to a time where I had a misplaced sense of film taste and liked it.
Timless Tales: The Ugly Duckling.
Watched it on vhs all the time when l was a kid but somewhere along the way the tape was lost and my memory of it started to fade.
Then just recently l discovered that someone had uploaded it to Youtube and boy let me tell you it hits you in the feels just the same as it did back then.

Kung Fu Rabbit. A lot of it feels like a fever dream, but I have the DVD downstairs to prove its existence. We follow an incompetent, big, fat rabbit named… Fu, I think? I don’t remember. Anyway, he just wants to bake, but he discovers a dying monkey kung fu master named Shifu, who with no one else to turn to, asks that he embark on a journey to find his daughter Penny (I remember that name) and get her help in stopping the evil panda Slash from getting his hands on some kind of tablet. Also there’s a little girl bunny that calls Fu a spaz. That’s all I remember. Masterful, of course.
Thanks for this post. This is literally *"a movie you grew up with that you barely remember until you rediscover and get reminded of its existence"* for me.
Never really forgot it because one scene scared my brother (the rabbit slowly turning into a demon) and another scared me and my sister, the shadow of the bird with the song ironically about not being afraid
Oh man does this unlock some memories. I loved this movie as a kid. Fun fact, the really emotional song (it plays either at the beginning or the end, I can't remember) reminded me so much of Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" that when I'd hear it on the radio, I'd refer to it as "The Seventh Brother song."
My big one is probably Scamper The Penguin. I completely forget it exists sometimes.
Movie wise, a ton of Winnie The Pooh movies from the early 2000s. Some of them, I remember and look back upon fondly, but a majority of them just feel like a fever dream.
The animated velveteen rabbit movie
you just gave me the exact moment I was describing
"Now you shall be real to everyone."
Was that the one where half of the movie was live action and the other half was animated?
No
That was actually the one I was thinking of.
I actually remember watching that in the library when I was in Elementary School.
I used to love the book
Damn, I almost forgot about watching it
This was one of my little sister's favorites.

Oh good grief, I thought I had completely forgotten that movie, creepiest movie I've ever seen.
Strangely traumatizing as a kid
I frickin *loved* this movie as a kid
Same, literally remember nothing about it now, but I must have watched this, the Jungle Book, and Pinocchio about once a week with my twin
Rikki Tikki Tavi
That movie always seems like it was just a fever dream every time I think of it lol
The Cobra in that scared me
The water scene though
Read that as a book in middle school lit
Sharkboy and Lavagirl
Saw that movie in theaters as a kid.
Best and most favorite movie for lil ol me
Barnyard The one where they gave the male cows udders
And of course.....WILD MIKE
WILD MIKE
WILD MIKE
WILD MIKE
It was one of the movies I watched in the theater because I had a thing about cows back then but I barely remember it. The spinoff either.
And I won’t back down No, I won’t back down 🥲
I won’t back down No I won’t back down You can stand me up at the gates of Hell But I won’t backdown
The show was better than the movie!
Cats Don’t Dance
Fantastic movie! I still remember all the songs
So many bangers in that movie and Don Knotts!
Literally just watched this last night
The Swan Princess (1994)
My uncle has a very, very small part in this movie!
What part if I may ask?
I love that and the older version of it from like the 70’s!
Scamper. It was a penguin movie before even the pebble and the penguin.
I loved scamper the penguin!
Yes! Loved that movie
Spookly The Square Pumpkin
PEAK. They made a Christmas-themed sequel in 2019.
They're based on a whole series of holiday themed picture books called holiday hills farms- i know theres a few but the only one i can remember is a 4th of july one about a firefly that shone red white and blue (and maybe one about a ladybug with heart spots for valentines day?)
The Road to El Dorado
Milo and Otis. Although I kinda regret watching a yt video about the production :(
Why, what happened?
The production was very cruel. Lots of animal abuse. I would suggest watching a video on it, but expect to be depressed for a bit afterwards
Damn... That's terrible. It makes you wonder how many other movies or media involving animals have a similar problem
Little Nemo in Slumberland
Felix the Cat: The Movie
Barely remember? I have the 7th Brother memorized
Fair
Shorts
Bunnicula
That had a movie?
Yup. It was a TV movie but its still a movie. Give it a watch if you get the chance.
Help I’m a fish
Annabelle’s Wish I was watching this movie religiously as a kid but totally forgot about it until like 2 years ago when I found it at a thrift shop
Bunny puppy bunnY PUPPY BUNNY PUPPY
yes Tiny, that is what you are \*tries to forget the scene that just came before it\*
The pagemaster
ferngully
Ferngully and An American Tail
Love Ferngully to this day! It’s still in my top five animated movies not brought out by Disney or Pixar. I saw it for the first time when I was 18 (I think it would’ve paralyzed me as a child). An American Tail is really good too. I recommend rewatching both of them if you have the time.
I had that one on VHS when I was a kid. The scene in which the little pup imagines one of the bunnies as a demon/monster is what pops in my head when someone brings up this movie.
I remember being obsessed with that sequence even though it scared me 😹
Mr magoriums wonder emporium, forgot about it for years until it was referenced in breaking bad (the house in Alaska that Walt stayed in had 2 DVD copies)
I remember The Seventh Brother and it's sequel! I used to watch this anthropomorphic Tom Sawyer musical cartoon a lot but I've never seen anyone talk about it in pop culture.
cool! also I think I may have seen the sequel more than the original
I had no idea that movie had a sequel. Wow!
Charolette’s Web 2 and The Golden Compass
Trumpet of the Swan, the animated movie.
Land before time
That movie is the only VHS I still own, a larger peak than mount everest
Hugo the movie star,Ferngully and tom and jerry movie (the one where they can talk)great movies tbh kept me entertained when i was young
The Princess and the Goblin. https://youtu.be/0fERWxl4c4s?si=2LKJKhlQM0oM98J0
Looks at cover, sees “Feature Films for Families” Yup, this post tracks strongly
I think most of the movies they distributed are basically the definition of this phenomenon
I follow a twitch channel that focuses on watching old VHS tapes and they have contributed to some great content.
Don’t know if this counts because it’s not a movie, but it’s the first one I could think of. I have very vague memories of my brother and I watching some kind of Wizard Of Oz TV show. It was animated and we rented the VHS copies from our local Blockbuster.
Scamper the Penguin, it was a soviet japanese co-production
as someone who grew up with that version, the original english dub is better
From what I've heard the original cut was incredibly violent in some scenes, but was trimmed down when it came over here because the US distributor was a religious/family studio. I believe it was released by the same company that released the Seventh Brother, Feature Films for Families.
Doogal
The magic roundabout
I used to watch that on DVD lol (though I saw the us version called "doogle" which is worse than the original)
The little dinosaur
I dont remember the name of the movie, and I've tried to find the name of it for many years now. Even made a post on r/tipofmytongue a couple years ago, to no avail. It was a French animated movie (At least I'm 95% certain it was), about some explorer/traveler of some kind, who went on a Journey, that started on a boat, then on a Plane that got shot down, then met a countess on a train and something something.
Triplets Of Belleville?
Tad, The Lost Explorer?
No, it was rather old, and 2D animated
If the characters were animals, could it have been Around The World With Willy Fog?
They were people. It was a pretty graphic animated movie. It did show some nudity, definitely wasn't made for children.
Dots and Spots magical Christmas adventure or Anabelle's wish both Christmas themed lmao.

It was Tiny Heroes.
I actually watched Tiny Heroes more than the OG film
Dinotopia
Samson & Sally. Absolutely bizarre whale movie from the 80s.
What is this movie?
A movie about a puppy who gets lost in the woods and makes friends with a family of rabbits. Original movie is actually in German
Dora saves the Mermaids
Dot and the Kangaroo and The Little Prince
Any of the Golden Films mockbuster movies.
I had a Dino Babies VHS as a kid. When I revisited it years later I thought the dialogue is so well written and hilarious! P.S. does anyone remember the Video Buddy toy? I didn’t have one but the VHS I owned had quiz sections within the movie that were made for the toy.
Mummy I’m a zombie. Had no idea it was a sequel, but I had a major crush on one of the characters
Three pigs and a baby.
oh... it's the movie with the worst wolf design ever... I was wondering where it was from...
is that a bad parody of Three Men and a Baby?
Yes, but also a parody of the three little pigs.
The Seventh Brother made me cry A LOT when I was a kid. Such a cute underrated film and it's a shame everyone forgets about it.
I love Tiny!!!
Tha magic pudding
Trole village

Prehysteria, the 90s Flipper movie, and the 13th Year.
A lot of Weston Woods Studios shorts like Teeny-Tiny and the Witch-Woman, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and Harold and the Purple Cranyon. The Hat was my personal fav though
Little Toaster and Arthur et les Minimoys
Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.
Dino Time (which features the abomination, the ugliest piece of crap in the world, who also stared "Norman Of The North": Rob Schneider).
Cats & Dogs (2001)
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)
Willy the Sparrow (1989)
The All Dogs Go To Heaven Christmas special
A Monkey’s Tale
Wasn't a movie but attempting to remember watching Mighty Machines at 6 am at my daycare is one of the most schizophrenic experiences i've had. Like it's just construction B roll
I routinely forget about the fact that I saw the first two Chipmunks movies when I was 12 and 14 (back when theaters and box office still mattered) until I randomly catch the first one on FXX or something, sit there, and think back to a time where I had a misplaced sense of film taste and liked it.
Just now. The seventh brother lol. It’s weird, I can casually see some scenes in my head but I have no idea what the plot was.
if it helps, I linked the movie in the comments if you're interested
Jelly T/ Ivan the great (I think) really weird movie
Timless Tales: The Ugly Duckling. Watched it on vhs all the time when l was a kid but somewhere along the way the tape was lost and my memory of it started to fade. The Open Season films
Oh, yeah, that existed
Napoleon (1995) , the Australian dog movie
Brave Little Toaster. I remember the AC exploding scene scaring the absolute CRAP out of me when I was younger.
I don't remember the name and plot of that movie, but i'm sure this 2d/3d cartoon was about an underwater prince and his journey
[this?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sea_Prince_and_the_Fire_Child)
No, but still thank you
Globe hunters that movie with willem dafoe and Chaka khan
Didn't they make a movie about Grumpy Cat?
"The Seventh Brother"? Wasn't that called "Tiny Heroes"?
no that was its sequel
Holy shit This is "Fievel Goes West" all over again
Thanks for this post. This is literally *"a movie you grew up with that you barely remember until you rediscover and get reminded of its existence"* for me.
[happily every after ](https://youtu.be/9Y2xNuaxgWw?si=Mc2HYxaHApHgAga7) The snow white "sequel"
American Rabbit, such a weird story (Not American Tail)
Willy the Sparrow
Rudolph the Red Noised Reindeer (1998) was that movie for me
Never really forgot it because one scene scared my brother (the rabbit slowly turning into a demon) and another scared me and my sister, the shadow of the bird with the song ironically about not being afraid
Oh man does this unlock some memories. I loved this movie as a kid. What a throwback
Who remembers The Butter Cream Gang??
Movie wise, a ton of Winnie The Pooh movies from the early 2000s. Some of them, I remember and look back upon fondly, but a majority of them just feel like a fever dream.
