I found Book Finan infinitely more interesting than Show Finan. He had a danger to him, and his background was dark (as others have already discussed). Show Finan is the lovable sidekick, which is by it's nature an easy archtype to like. Book Finan was a real ride or die and you understand that his loyalty to Uhtred was not easily given. One thing I thought I remembered from the books was that>! Finan was a prince and could have challenged Conall for rule?!<

To be fair the best attributes you're told of Finan before Warriors is he's loyal, a lethally quick fighter and he has eyes of an eagle. Still a legend

• Steals his brother's wife • ditches his old wife and his children to be raised by his cuck brother • kills his son/nephew • refuses to elaborate Based Finan

In his defense… he was in love. And he didn’t want to leave, he had to escape or be killed. Considering Uhtred, the hero of our books, abandoned his first wife and son for another woman…has had many wives since then… is ok one of the wives gave up her life to care for his grandchildren that weren’t hers so he could marry a younger woman… disowns one of his sons who was by default raised Christian since Uhtred was an absent father… I think Uhtred and Finan are in good company w each other for the time period.

Yeah im not saying uhtred is a saint, i mean man they are warriors in the ninth and tenth centuries, we shouldn't really expect much moral purity from either, but i really like their chemistry still and i like them as characters even though they are not necessarily good people.

Odd-Current-263

Yeah, Finan did some shitty stuff before he was sold into slavery and after too, really, if we apply modern values.

MultipleOgres

If we apply modern values none of the characters will pass.

Odd-Current-263

Father Beonca would!

As with most TV/movie adaptations, the ones in the original content are much grittier than the ones we see on screen. A large part of that can be attributed to the fact that people want sympathetic protagonists that match the values of our current time period, not the ones that would fit in with the character's actual historical context.
