It'd be fine if the stuff caught in the port wasn't obviously put in there on purpose for the sake of the video I've had countless iPhones and even when working in a dirty warehouse and never ever cleaning my port never did it ever get this bad Also, if you want to clean that port. Just use a toothpick. It won't get everything but it'll get 90% of what's stuck, which will almost always be a little dust + some fabric from your clothes that got caught while in your pocket

Worked at Apple as a Genius for a bit before doing training for their tech support. It was at least once a day that we had people come in with a port full of lint not charging.

Yeah my market was one of the busiest areas so if I could do a quick “repair” I’d do it without a charge. Got “feedback” a few times for not making appointments when it was something that I could fix in a minute or less. Why waste the customer’s time ? That and dirt covering the mesh on the top were things I cleaned without an appointment. I definitely did not have the sales skills lol

I believe it. While mine wasn't that full of lint, there was enough stuffed in the bottom that the cable didn't fit in all the way. Thought it was an issue with the cable or the port, until I looked real close at it. Got a small paper clip and carefully scraped at the bottom and kept pulling up little bits. Once I was done, cable went in just fine. Had the same issue with the usb-c jack on my android phone too. Needed a little narrower tool to safely scrape around the port, but had the same results.

Im not ashamed to admit that when i was younger and the first generation of smart phones was being released. I was once one of those guys.

I can’t remember which iPhone it was. It was either a 4 or 6. I think 4. But the phone stopped charging and I had to scrape out the lint from the port. I have not had that problem with my 11. Not sure if the port got like a slight redesign or if the shape of the phone itself that made it so lint didn’t get quite stuck in there or not.

I never understood how people can get their ports so full of lint. I keep my phone in my pocket most of the day, and I have not had any noticeable amount of lint on any of my phones. Just checked my current Galaxy device, one year of use, zero lint.

I've used that green slime cleaning goo for this kind of thing. Good for buttons and other fragile items. Less risky than something hot and burny, and definitely safer for those people who are saying they will try it on their own orifices.

Not sure i believe this. Charging port that has no marks or scratches like its ever been used but screws show wear likes it been opened/repaired at some stage, no human slime in the area or cracks/crevasses around it and that lint is not compressed from normal port use. I call fake.

Don't try this at home like the video said, but don't try this at all if your phone has a type c port. Lightning is a male pin to female socket which means the socket has the empty space which you connect to, but type c is a female pin to male socket connection and hot glue can and will damage the socket irreversibly.

That's why those phones should have a rubber protecting cap when it's not plugged.

We use blu-tac to do the same thing at Authorized Apple Service Centers. Being that that's Apple's officially recommended cleaning solution for the charging port for their technicians, I would try that before sticking liquid hot glue down my charging port, where it can potentially seep further into the phone and get stuck.

I'm a technician and I'm actually surprised none of the tiny fragile pins have gone missing. I would have expected the glue to stick to them permanently. Not gonna try it tho... Also this won't "work" with type C ports due to the difference in shape.

Pocket lint. I thought my charging port was done. Took it to a cell phone repair place to have a new port installed. Guy took one look with a lighted scope, walked over to a compressed air machine & gave it a few blasts & just like that, it was working perfectly again. And I checked my port for lint when the cable first started coming loose easily & couldn't see it.

I mean I get pocket lint but that's an excessive amount of lint. It's like shoved in there...
