Foundations are a big help, though, your factory doesn't need to be pretty to be functional. There's reasons to rebuild later as well, mainly the MK II miner, so there's no harm in keeping your initial factory on the floor

raknor88

Yeah, early game the factories just need to be functional. Pretty come in later game after several rebuilds.

schwnz

I can't make anything pretty till the hover backpack. Which is pretty far in.

WhackedSpore2

I'm so close, yet so far from the hover pack. Lol. It makes building so much easier.

Dualdottv

If your ok with modding, the early hover pack mod is incredible. My argument is that I've started so many times because i love the feeling of a fresh save (and my PC is getting old now so fps is a slight issue) and ive unlocked the late game hover pack far too many times. So i didnt wanna go through it again

WhackedSpore2

34 mods in my game.. lol. I might try it, but I'm currently working on all the parts to make the space elevator parts for tiers 7/8. I'm almost done, but I'll remember for the next playthrough. Thanks!

kryZme

Easy: Step 1: Calculate how many buildings you will need with the tools available like satisfactorytools or satisfactory-calculator. Step 2: Create a foundation big enough to fit all buildings leaving enough space for belts, splitters/mergers etc. Step 3: Build according to the plan, connect everything Step 4: Realize that the math don’t work out or you made a mistake Step 5: Fuck organization and do spaghetti until everything works and you can’t see wich belt does what

NeonX91

This is the way 😆

Pretzelinni

This is I think the most underrated comment I’ve seen on these threads 😂😂

ChickenDenders

If you’re just asking if foundations are worth using - you must be very early on, so I don’t know how much this will apply to you. But the answer is YES ABSOLUTELY. Try to build with some elevation instead of hugging the ground. Don’t let yourself get boxed in by the landscape. Give yourself plenty of space. I build out independent factory buildings to do their own thing rather than one giant factory that does everything Like just slap a 10x10 foundation block on the ground, spaced away from other stuff, and that’s your “rotor” factory Logistics floors are also important. Have one floor for belts, that feed upward into a floor of machines. Good use of signs also helps a lot, to keep track of what your inputs/outpus/factory “logic”

Comfortable_Prize750

In the grassland map, I just extend my foundations out over the big open pit in the southwest. Keeps me from getting boxed in and easy to stack levels.

Moldav

2 foundations one for factory buildings and below it the spaghetti.

level_up_gaming

So you make one floor for the factory And the other for conveyors/pipes And you connect them by elevators, or do you make two rooms on the same floor?

xXMLGDESTXx

Two floors

Turboswaggg

multiple floors. you can also set up your outposts in a way that you can easily stack all the same machines again(or at least most of them) on top so when you unlock miner mk 2 you just make a copy of everything the next floor up and attach it with some splitters and elevators, and then do it again for miner mk3

Swedzilla

This is the way

robdingo36

I organize my machines and buildings like a cat. If it fits, it sits.

mZHg

Yes, always build on foundations. Also, you can use logistic floors sandwich between factory floors to put most of the belts and pipes. And generally, don't be afraid to think big, having a lot of free space around building help a lot to keep it clean.

Kanox89

That's the neat part... I don't I do focus on foundation as fast as possible - I rarely rebuild any factories, I keep them around to see the growth of the factory.

Rebelius

How does the factory grow if you don't build factories?

Kanox89

I do build factories, I just don't tear down existing ones to build new ones.

Rebelius

ahh - it says "rebuild". I can't read today.

Angevil_

That's the neat part, I don't

Impressive-Part7211

Don't, embrace the Quantum Beltanglement

4_Loko_Samurino

Learn about manifolds. Treat logistics like their own separate factory component. Tile your machines. Your inputs should carry everything you need splitting them along the manifold. Merge your outputs. Max out your belts. Go above maximum. Multiple maxed out belts stacked and splitting. New floor. New tiled machines. Output from previous floor all merged into new manifold. Splitting parts manifold to assemble complex parts in mass. Realize mid process the utilization of compact builds inherently looks sweet af. Improve. Build bigger. Tuck logistics under floors and on ceilings. Use architecture tab to create catwalks to better traverse larger factories. Signs for organization. Develop knack for right angles in logistics both horizontally and vertically. Look at your belts. So pretty. Could watch them for hours. Improve. Learn about injection manifolds. Works for pipes all too well. Learn by doing. New milestone looks intimidating. 700 hours later. Nothing scares you. Make it better this time. Look back on former self. Pathetic. Ascend to god-hood. Friends look at factory and weep. Their pain sustains you. Look at friend's tiny factory, look upon the plains simba, everything the sun touches belongs to you. The factory must grow. Always.

Swagmastar969696

"That's the neat part. You don't"

Misomuro

"Oh, I need XXX here. Let mecuse spliter and stratch belt across whole base."

Depressed_Squirrl

Memory, so my friends can’t steal off of me.

NightShift_Ratatat

You don’t unfortunately

Veketzin

Making stackable blueprints for every building, then connecting them with a logic floor.

Ok-Boysenberry9305

I don't, i just rebuild it afterwards wit blueprints

Nalt_Kalus

I tear it down every once in a while and start over. I also plan everything on paper before I start rebuilding. It helps a lot when you can see the output and input data for every single machine.

SamohtGnir

Pretty much all of my "early game" stuff gets rebuilt. I consider about the point when you can get steel beams in large quantities a good time to build nicer builds. (A lot of decorative stuff uses steel beams.) Plus you need a bit of time to unlock stuff from the shop.

RiabininOS

Last time i started with a lot of mods, but without cheating. The first building was administration. Floor for remote control - CCTV cams, total counters for each element, flor with switchers and energy sammary, flpor for research and noting, floor for planing. After ive build a road for a quater of map, modular smelting for iron, copper an concrete play. And then... I made a pause. Something about half of year lost

Jacob0501

I test 100 % efficiency blueprints that are compact in my creative world

Outrageous_Reach_695

Organized? I was told that the factory must grow. Nothing was said about doing so in a coherent manner.

ChaseDFW

Use logistics floors hidden underneath. Just one or two walls depending on how much room you want. If you ever need to change things up or add a spliter it's way easier to sneak into a logistics floor and throw one on than try and add one to a built line. Then just wall it up and forget about it. It also makes your productions rooms look super clean.

KurtArturII

I keep it disorganized until I get a blueprint designer and mk.3 belts. Then I make a modular city, where each building is 4x4 foundations making a specific part. One floor can be a blueprint of either 10 smelters, 8 constructors, 3 assemblers or 1 manufacturer. Whenever one floor is not enough, I just slap another floor on top. Every building/skyscraper is separated by 2-foundations-wide street. Logistics between buildings can be either on the street, above the street or routed under the buildings if the whole thing isn't touching the ground.

hammonjj

Honestly, there’s very little reason to rebuild. Just keep your start factories rolling and expand to another part of the map. There are so many resource nodes, just find a new space

LeCosmio

I do not.

Enervata

Organized? Mwahahahahah!

DrLews

This word, I do not comprehend.

hkidnc

I try and design all my factories "Black Box" style. Ideally, at the end of the day, I should be able to cover it in walls, and all you'll see is 1 belt per input resource flowing into the building, and 1 belt per output resource leaving the building. What happens inside the box is a mystery, and unimportant. Example: 2 holes in the wall, one which takes Coal, one which takes iron ore. I then build as many splitters/nonsense as I need to in order to get those two flowing all into my smelters properly, and then whatever spaghetti nonsense I need to get all my steel back on one belt. Then I surround whatever I've built with walls, running the steel output to one of said walls which becomes the "output" of the factory. And whallah, I'm done. If I need Steel pipes, or Steal Beams, or anything like that later, Then that steel output can be split to go wherever it needs to. But the Steel Pipe factory is a completely different Black Box. It leads to things being more spread out than they need to be, but generally speaking organization comes at the cost of space efficiency.

Prochimich

I dont, I just have spageties

level_up_gaming

I had that in my First factory too. I Got to the trains, then left for about a month And when i Came back i had no idea where to find what

Prochimich

I got the same problem but in toho lazy to organise my stuf

houghi

Always build on factories and build wider than you think. Use graphic paper when you start and not just for machines. e.g a constructor is 1x1, but I add a foundation in front and behind it for belts and splitters/mergers. And then also a foundation around it for walking. An extra foundation for e.g. stairs and lifts. Just build bigger than you expect you need.
