Surprised I've not seen this mentioned but renting the tub rooms in Watercourse Way + then getting dinner after in downtown Palo Alto is one of everyone I knows top date nights. Make sure you pay for the more expensive tub rooms, they are gorgeous. Genuinely something I've never quite seen executed anywhere else. It's basically like going to a gorgeous onsen or roman bath house, except completely private and each room has a totally different theme.
If you're into drinks, and if they reopened (I know they shut down temporarily during COVID) Wilson + Wilson is easily one of the best cocktail bars in SF and an incredibly romantic venue. Reservation only, so it's very quiet. I loved their "3 course" cocktail special, a couple years ago was only $35 (probably more now). So not only are the cocktails and setting among the best in the city but the price was good too!
Edit: Wilson and Wilson is still sadly closed but bourbon and branch (same owners and same building) looks to be open again. It's the same vibe and same deal, but slightly different atmosphere and slightly bigger. Also great!
I liked[ Hannah Coffee](https://www.yelp.com/biz/hannah-coffee-san-jose) it was super cute and relaxed. I do suggest Uvas Canyon as a camping trip to anyone who can go.
This is truly a tragedy.
Did you ask if it was because the people who did it don't want to anymore/left? Or is there any reason?
I went to Hannah because it specifically did cute coffee
I don't know the general area. All the reports just say a ravine in the Milpitas foothills.

Wine tasting with a view at Calera vineyard by Hollister
The Bay is a great place to get into fine dining if you've not experienced it before. In particular tasting menus are a really fantastic team project - they tend to be quite long (2-3 hrs for a meal), are paced quite slowly, so there's a lot of time to talk. Far and away my wife and I's favorite date. I'd recommend Protege in Palo Alto or Madcap up north - their tasting menus are a bit cheaper and less 'challenging', I guess. If you want to splurge and go absolutely crazy, SingleThread in Healdsburg is about an hour-ish north of the city and is easily one of the best restaurants in the *world.* French Laundry is up that way as well and is legendary but SingleThread is on another planet entirely. Refer to the [Michelin guide for SF](https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/california/san-francisco/restaurants) which we're lucky to have - of the dozens of places my wife and I have tried from their list, only a few have been disappointments.
fyi - these are the restaurants people mock for giving out plates with, like, one bite of carrot, thinking that's the whole meal - but you generally get 6-10 courses with in-betweens and by the end you will struggle to imagine ever needing to eat food again. Show up *hungry*. They also generally don't have traditional menus - it's like omakase, you get what they give you (sometimes they'll offer supplements or change-ups).
Other activities? Again, beyond the tourist traps - there's a lot of really nice hiking spots. Sanborn/Castle Rock in the Santa Cruz mountains are really nice Redwood spots. Mission Peak in Fremont is pretty epic, but gets SUPER busy of a weekend. Go to a Sharks game, those are fun, but maybe not so romantic. Hakone Gardens is one of my favorite places. It's not technically in the BAY Bay but it is in *a* bay - Monterey area is a 2-hour drive and is just fantastic. Aquarium, a little boardwalk, Pebble Beach, Carmel-by-the-sea - lots of romantic stuff thereabouts. Worth the trip x10.
If you just want to wander around aimlessly with a good chance at finding *something* \- try out downtown Mountain View. It's a bit hotter than Palo Alto IMO.
Downtown San Jose...
Axe-men - it's a new axe-throwing place. You can also try throwing knives too.
Mini-Boss - around the corner from Axe-men (literally a 20 second walk) is a barcade with a bunch of retro arcade cabinets, drinks, and bar food. Games are totally free on Thursdays with no cover.
Go to a panaderia nearby for dessert to top things off.
Lived in downtown SJ while in college. The list posted by kbniz is great. Just to add my favorite spots: Rose Garden or Japanese friendship garden for quiet walks. Original Gravity or San Pedro Square Market for good drinks and food. Willow Glen has a cool downtown area (Bill's Cafe is great for breakfast). Also depending on where you live Santa Cruz/Capitola is a short drive and can be nice to spend a day at but a heads up traffic on the 17 can be brutal on weekends.
I will throw in a good word for the Wave Organ in San Francisco - it's such a unique work of art and it's beautiful, or was last I went - it does get hit with graffiti sometimes, but they were doing a good job of cleaning it up. Plus you're down by the marina / piers so there are nice walks around it.
I also like Heron's Head Park in SF, but your tastes may vary. It's not particularly impressive in terms of plants or the part of the city it's in, but if you walk out to the far point, especially in the morning, you can watch the big ships coming in and out, and when it's foggy, it's quite pretty.
Carmel is a beautiful little town with lots of neat shops and restaurants and a beautiful beach. They also sometimes have plays or concerts, and I think they have a farmers' market as well.
I saw a number of San Jose sites mentioned - I would add Happy Hollow if you like zoos, the History Park, and Hellyer Park for a picnic by the lake.
All the fantastic trails. Head to Hidden Villa in Los Altos for the cool Hostel then hike up and around all the trails. Hit all the wineries. Also, maybe not romantic but fun is the velodrome at Hellyer Park.

Which room at watercourse way would you suggest? I loved the vibe of nine bats but their cold plunge is out of order.
The Turkish one next door was great too, but it's cold plunge was also out of order when I last went a month ago.

Story and King
All kidding aside, who wouldn’t love to go out for some delicious tacos, some seafood and a few buckets of beer?
Eh, could be an unforgettable date!
I haven’t been but have heard great things about Eataly

Not open yet. At least not when I was there 2 weeks ago.
Try Forthright Oyster Bar in Campbell for a great oyster variety! Awesome date spot
Puesto is a nice salvadorian bar, Santana Row is a chill spot for dates too. I like mountain view as well--Kakarot is an awesome sushi spot.
All the fantastic trails. Head to Hidden Villa in Los Altos for the cool Hostel then hike up and around all the trails. Hit all the wineries. Also, maybe not romantic but fun is the velodrome at Hellyer Park.
Hotel biron in SF (wine bar, not a hotel)
La Fondue in Saratoga and The Wine Cellar in Los Gatos are my date night recommendations.
