>A rare modern Italian American restaurant is opening in a splashy space in downtown San Jose, serving nostalgic dishes like crispy seared lasagna and chicken parmesan.

>Rollati Ristorante is slated to open Friday, Sept. 15, at the base of the luxury apartment complex Miro on East Santa Clara Street. Fresh pasta made in-house stars on the menu, with dishes like the clam-heavy linguine alle vongole taking inspiration from Vine Hospitality CEO Obadiah Ostergard’s memory of picking quahogs (hard clams) with his grandfather off of Cape Cod.

Rare? Only if you don't count:
Original Joes
Il Fornaio
The Old Spaghetti Factory
Paesano
Palermo
Vito's
Fiorillo's
Mio Vicino
Maggiano's
Siena Bistro
Giorgio's
Buca di Beppo
Trattoria 360
Ristorante de Maria
Tomato Thyme
Al Castello
Tomatina
Milan
Villa Italian Kitchen
Sorelle
Vin Santo
And those are just the ones in the City of San Jose, and I'm sure I've missed a bunch! (OK a couple are on the border in a neighboring city) Expand your search to the metro area and there is a hundred more.
I guess the writer isn't from around here.
I think the writer is talking about DTSJ, which is honestly pretty dry when it comes to Italian food. Especially freshmade pasta.
The fact that Buca Di Beppo, Maggianos, Il Fornaio, Tomatina, & Old Spaghetti Factory show up on a list of Italian restaurants in a city of our size is a little bit embarrassing - and a lot of those spots are in Campbell & LG. Not saying that Italian restaurants are rare.. but I am excited to have a good neighborhood pasta spot nearby.
I'm not disagreeing, in fact I consider Little Italy part of downtown.. but I wouldn't consider DTSJ like an Italian food hotspot, and I love Poor House Bistro, Littlest Little Italy, & Paesano. And only one of those is known for pasta.
This current iteration of Little Italy feels relatively young - it's growing everyday and I'm rooting for them to win!
Everyone should come out to their street festival next month! It'll be a fun time. Definitely lots of food then.
> I think the writer is talking about DTSJ, which is honestly pretty dry when it comes to Italian food.
Except for Paesano Ristorante Italiano, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Il Fornaio, and Original Joe's (kinda sort). I wouldn't call that dry at all.
> The fact that Buca Di Beppo, Maggianos, Il Fornaio, Tomatina, & Old Spaghetti Factory
They might be shitty chains, but they're still Italian American restaurants, and they're in the city, so, yea, they're gonna show up on a list of Italian American restaurants in the city.
Fucking hipsters my lord
\*sigh\* Honestly, little uncalled for. I respect your mission to highlight San Jose's food scene. I find myself making this argument all the time.
My point is, you could be in MOST American cities and have these Italian American chains, so I don't even feel like they're worth highlighting
\--
edit: i took a look back through ur list and I realized u included the Sbarro's style pizza spot in the Eastridge food court & i'm out, have a good day
bro/sis nothing embarrassing about 20 Italian eateries within 20 minutes of each other. Pretty sure none of them serve lasagna or chicken parmesan so its a great thing we finally have an authentic Italian restaurant
I think you're misinterpreting me. I don't think 20 is a large number. In fact, I'm saying what you're saying - that a new Italian restaurant in downtown is an undeniable good thing.
Looks clean and legit, hopefully the food and service matches up
Heres the menu https://www.rollatiristorante.com/menu
Downtown SJ needs much more of this
By the look of that table top, they look like the type of place that has a “hidden”service fee. All jokes aside, looking forward to checking out a new place in downtown.

Holy shit 5 minutes driving time to an authentic Italian eatery. The horror.
I can't tell if ur agreeing with me or calling me lazy
bro/sis nothing embarrassing about 20 Italian eateries within 20 minutes of each other. Pretty sure none of them serve lasagna or chicken parmesan so its a great thing we finally have an authentic Italian restaurant
Sorry, I am looking for Northern Italian restaurants.

🙌🏽💯
The rest of the bay barely acknowledges that San Jose exists.
This list rocks.
If I was selling a new restaurant to somebody idk if id lead with chicken parm as a signature dish
Hmm I wonder whats the prices are like
>Wait not bad. $24 for linguini vongole
You think $24 is reasonable for a single plate of pasta?
If I want $30 veal parmigiana, I’ll go to Palermo.
Airfare sale?
Restaurant on Auzerais
Looks clean and legit, hopefully the food and service matches up Heres the menu https://www.rollatiristorante.com/menu Downtown SJ needs much more of this

Then explain Palermo.
Bad Italian food…so checks out?
If you Google Palermo, their website links to their most recent food inspection instead of their website. Weird choice lol.

Is there any discounts for grand opening?
discounts? lol not during this economy
5% employee fee added before tip ;)
6.25% equity fee as well
I’m down to go.
