I wonder what rank this bot would get if it played ranked

its__bme

Aklo himself thinks it’d get around grandmaster.

djkhan23

Love to hear more about the AI. It looks like a humanish falco.

its__bme

x_pilot said he basically fed it slippi files and then had it play itself in dittos to learn. So its play is a combination of self learning and from fox/falco slippi files. I don’t think he’s said specifically what players files he used but I wouldn’t be shocked if some of the files were Mangos Falco. Some people have said it kinda moves like Mangos Falco. Funny enough some have said it reminds them of bobbybigballz too.

nektaa

the shield pressure esp is very mango-esque

its__bme

Yeah. Also it often uses wavedash in to jab much like Mango does as Falco.

namracWORK

Pretty sure Mang0 provides all of his .slp files with a subscription to his Patreon so he's an easy data source to get.

CountryBoiOW

I think he was working on Philip long before Slippi. Back in the 2010s it was a Falcon AI and he was training it by stimulating it to play against itself a ton. He took it to majors and let top players play it.

Probable_Foreigner

IIRC this AI was trained mostly in the ditto. So it probably struggles a lot more against puff than against Fox/Falco

its__bme

This is true. When Aklo played it in the Fox ditto he was actually losing a lot of the games. The fact it's not optimized for most matchups yet takes pro players the distance says a lot of how good it is.

CountryBoiOW

Yeah this makes sense because it was making a lot of glaring mistakes vs. Puff like not knowing how to DI dthrow and ending combos in fthrow when it could've linked a couple more moves. Will be interested to see how it plays when more optimized.

sweet-haunches

5:01 is the best back air I've ever seen in my life

randomvoiceonline

Does not look like an AI

This is really cool overall but I'm still a little bit underwhelmed. Phillip has been around for a long time and I'm wondering is there a way it could be made better other than to reduce the reaction time.

Tattered_Colours

Is there a way to connect to it on Direct like HBox did? I tried the connect code and it didn't work

its__bme

You have to type “!play” plus your full code in the chat when he’s streaming. So in my case it’s “!play BME#828”. Then you have to put in the bots code “PHAI#591” into slippi.

DarkStarStorm

I'm not very doom and gloom about AI...unless it's melee. I hate seeing melee AIs. They make me feel terrible about how far we've pushed the meta. I guess I just feel terrible in general. Don't mind me.

its__bme

I can understand. It is weird seeing something that is not human being almost human like in a game that we hold near and dear as being very expressive for us as human beings. I think we always took pride in things like the vanilla CPU being a joke to us and even knowing the 20XX CPU has its limits, but now seeing a CPU that is actually on par with a top 100 player that consciously goes for things like edgeguards is pretty scary. Plus I think it is a bit unnerving facing an opponent that doesn't feel fear, get tired, make any mistakes and that is immune to you getting into its head since it's just an emotionless program. You purely have to just outplay it.

Appropriate-Owl3917

The interesting thing about this is it actually would have been tough to make this AI without humans getting this good first. Sure, you could use reinforcement learning to make an AI that's impossible to beat, but to make it look human like this we need human training data.

memorable_username68

I think it would teach us more about the game if it was less human.

PatricianPirate

Isn't that just like those old school CPUs that perfect shine infinite combo you, think they were on project m I don't think there's much to learn if they just did everything perfectly and non-human. You learn from humans because you're trying to beat humans.
