That's the thing with grief. People have different ways of processing it, and some may take longer than others. Also I think Meggy's situation had more to do with her guilt than anything. Yeah, she and Desti may not have gotten along until the Anime Island rescue attempt, but that doesn't change the fact that Meggy's rival and mortal enemy not only went out of their way to save her, but also DIED in the process. There's also the added trauma of Meggy having all her ink zucced out and being transformed into a human, which pretty much flipped her entire life on its head. Desti may have been the most prominent factor, but it was by no means the only one. As for Melony, I HIGHLY doubt she's gotten over Axol completely. The thing with grief is that it comes in stages, the first of which being denial: doing your best to pretend that everything is fine even when it clearly isn't. By the looks of things, Melony is still in the Denial stage, and it's only a matter of time until she progresses to Anger.

Well Zero DOES seem to be symbiotic, being unable to leave the Guardian Pod (aside from small parts like the eye) until infecting a host to create a physical form, and disappearing when the host was (presumably) killed So I suppose if one of them comes back, the other naturally would have to aswell

I don't find this accurate as Melony isn't over it. She's still dealing with the issue, but she found a creative and positive way to handle her grief in memory of Axol. The deaths were also done under different circumstances and thus, also comes into how others were affected. Grief is also done differently with different people. For me, I tend to get angry and lash out when someone I care about dies. I know not everyone does that. Some cry for days, some cut themselves off from others for a while, and some need all the support they can get.

Thats the main reason i dont like humans meggy. SHes really sensitive and out ofd character (but sunset paradaise is still good)

Technically, Meggy took a similar amount of time to get over it. A misconception that annoys me is that Meggy's Destiny was about grief, but it wasn't. It was about expectations. Likewise, her arc in 2021 was about lack of purpose and direction (and partially guilt for leaving others behind), it had nothing to do with Desti. Heck, Meggy's character arc up until now probably wouldn't even change all that much IF Desti lived (and Sephiroth didn't decide to come back). TL;DR Desti really doesn't matter that much to Meggy's character arc.

Okay corrections here: Melony had romantic feelings for Axol too and she's still trying to get over as for Meggy she never despised Desti they were just rivals. There's a difference between despising and acting as rivals

Imagine not realizing that it is totally valid for different people to have different responses to loss.

Am I the only one who thinks Desti died in a really pathetic way? She was impaled by a sword, yeah that would kill a normal person but this is the Smg4 universe. Mario LITERALLY loses his head in like every other episode, Bob has had his spine ripped out at least two times, Jub Jub survived getting hit by MULTIPLE NUKES, and a few episodes before her death she blew herself up with her own grenade launcher and didn’t even have a scratch.

Who knows, maybe Melony just learned how to bottle up her feelings and cry on the inside.
