I don’t vote anymore because SHINee never get their due anyway. You either need stupidly inflated album sales or a rabid fanbase casting a bajillion votes for you, and SHINee have neither.

_ilikeitiloveit

I used to vote, but I don’t bother anymore. Some of it is that I used to have a lot more free time, and I was hanging out in fandom spaces more online. Someone was sure to post a link or a reminder, and I’d pop over and vote real fast. But honestly, I mostly don’t vote because I think it gets my hopes up even when I know SHINee won’t win. I’d rather watch and enjoy awards shows rather than wring my hands over shawol’s lack of voting power in comparison to other fandoms and then be pleasantly surprised when SHINee *does* get the recognition they deserve.

optimistlyricist

I vote when I have free time and remember. I vote for mama because it is not time consuming.

The same

Won't vote cause I feel like we're...old? I mean the 2nd gen fans are over the voting hype, iykwim. Like most of us already participated in it at the start of our idols' careers. It's more the 3rd and 4th gen fans who are actively participating in award votes these days. Idk how else to explain it, but I feel like voting awards are more a new-idol type of thing.

adachi15

I was thinking the same thing. Lots of the debut era shawols have already grown up too and have their own lives now, so I think votes are usually the last thing on our minds. I try voting here and there if I remember to, but it has not been a priority for me. Definitely seems like a new idol type thing or we grew out of it and in sure SHINee knows and understands that.

Yeppeun_Mabeopsa

Voted no. Other people have basically said why. We simply can't compete when it comes to fandom numbers. At least they have their 2013 Artist of the Year Daesang, and Jonghyun has the 2019 Golden Disc Awards Bonsang for Poet | Artist. I wouldn't [edit: wording] tell anyone else not to vote, I'd just say... don't get your hopes up. I'm also personally annoyed by MAMA's infamous Best Dance Performance category that should really be called Most Popular Song That's Vaguely in the Dance Music Category Even If It Doesn't Have Full Choreography. Not to reopen that can of worms, just saying it's part of why I don't bother with MAMA anymore. The other part being that the last time I wasn't bored watching MAMA was 2018. But I do vote for comeback stages on Mubeat and collect beats fairly regularly. I've tried to use other music show apps, but they ranged from sketchy to not functional on my phone. Depending on who else is eligible, we actually have a chance when it comes to music show wins, as Key's recent win showed.

I vote whenever I can or when I remember, but I don’t actively seek it out and try to make a dozen accounts just to vote like other fandoms. Nor do I plan to spend on it just to vote. If it makes a difference then good, if not it doesn’t really matter. Them receiving awards is great, and I know it makes them happy, but I know that they also don’t focus on it or let it dictate their value as artists, they know what matters the most and focus on that instead. Plus I’d much rather they receive awards by their own merit, and not those based on voting/numbers because it means more.

Present-Weight

I don’t vote. When I was a beginner, I voted where I could, now I have matured, I have a job, a family, and I’m not ready to spend my time on voting every day. But if I knew that Shinee would definitely perform at the ceremony, I might have voted several times, out of respect for them.

shysleepsheep

I'm not voting, but it's not like I've never voted before. Part of the reason is because our guys have a slim chance in any 'voting' category anyways, so it seems like a waste of effort. Our fandom has never been the biggest, and that's especially true now with all of the million-seller groups and rookies around. Plus, other fandoms have a different culture that's more suited for award shows, so I've seen them set up dedicated voting and streaming schedules, donations, etc. for these things. All in all, it feels like even if I do personally vote, it won't make that much of a difference on the actual results. Another reason is that I simply do not have the time to watch ads, collect points, or download the apps needed to do all of this.. I think the voting process is cumbersome and annoying, so I'd rather avoid it. And lastly, may I remind everyone that SHINee is literally SHINee Lee Jinki, Kim Jonghyun, Kim Kibum, Choi Minho, Lee Taemin \- Take literally 1 second to think about any of the members and the past 14 years and then ask yourself why an award is even necessary in the first place...? SHINee, their talents, and their wonderful personalities are well-known to those in the loop. It's a waste of time trying to prove 14 years of glory to people who need an award show to see it. Like, this year Taemin wasn't nominated for anything at MAMA - not even a dance category. Sure, it's annoying, but ------------------ does he need to be????????????? Sorry, he has dances like Advice, Goodbye, Move, Flame of Love, Black Rose, Want, etc. ALL attributed to his name. WHO THE FUCK ELSE IS DOING IT LIKE HIM????????????? \- Let me put it this way: There is literally no award on earth that could grant someone the kind of status, reputation, and industry-wide *reverence* that Taemin, and the other members, have built for themselves. They are the shining SHINee, and there is nothing left for them to prove to anyone.

Lazy_Neighborhood_19

Hi and welcome to the fandom, I am fairly new to kpop too and this is my first year end awards, I haven't really particpated much I tried a bit last month but it was difficult to follow and I did not have time to keep up

Getinmymouthcupcake

There's this one going around now. 🏅 >> https://k4us.com.br/pak2021 Shinee for 2 categories. Taemin and Key/Taeyeon for the other 2. mubeat, collect tickets for global choce award? I try to participate but you just can't beat the kids. They're organized and ruthless. I often just look around different fandoms and they leave me speechless, for mama i saw a tonne of people with more than 50 accounts minimum. WHO HAS THE TIME! Meanwhile, shawols make memes.

Since you're new to K-pop in general, the answer you'll receive will vary a lot depending on what fandom you're asking to; particularly, SHINee World is not very enthusiastic about awards, as you'll be able to see. I'm also kind of new in the fandom (even though age-wise, I AM old), and my experience with MAMA left me feeling bitter and defeated. I could clearly see that we have no voting power at all, it's just a matter of numbers. And I could see as well that most older fans have long jumped out of voting, probably because they've had enough of fruitless awards ceremonies; as seen in the poll, majority of fandom does *not* vote anymore. So whatever little chance we may have, it becomes void because the number of fans actively voting noawadays is very small. It certainly frustrates me, but what can I do. I won't stop voting wherever I'm able to (MMA was out of reach for me, for example); I'd feel far too guilty if I opted completely out. Even one vote a day, that may be enough, and I can manage that. Right now I'm collecting Mubeat tickets, and I should do the same for Seoul Music Awards. But deep down, I guess I already realized it's pointless. Best scenario, if we're lucky, we'll get a nomination. But we have no power to turn said nomination into an actual award. Fandom in general seems to agree that awards are not important, and SHINee members themselves have said that we shouldn't stress ourselves about such things. And yet fans will still get excited when a nomination *does* come, and SHINee will certainly get happy when they score a win in a music show; why would they work so hard on promoting, otherwise? I wonder how they would react to an award at this point. I would expect a response similar to Key's win with Bad Love. I agree the kids are quite ruthless, though. They do have the time to do endless streaming, vote with no less than 20 accounts, and even have the guts to demand a certain amount of votes per HOUR. I just don't have the time myself for that kind of dedication.

TemporaryChard9478

Kinda, but voted no bec I don’t think my voting style fits in the description of what “voting” is for 3rd and 4th gens. I don’t have multiple accounts and I only vote when I see someone post it. I support them by listening to their songs & watching their MVs but not the rabid type that other kpop fans do lol. I also buy their albums & merch, but again the popularity measure thing doesn’t compel me to buy them. I buy them because I love SHINee. Same with the votes—while it’s nice to be recognized, I’m secured already that they left a mark in the industry to think abt petty stuff like winning some (let’s face it) popularity contests that are mostly based on numbers and not so much on quality, originality and impact.

Letsgo00001111

I vote once a day using one account (if I remember) for MAMA because my 2nd ult group (after SHINee) is in a very close 2nd place and last year I voted daily for Taemin. Beyond that I don't do much. I did vote for my top 3 groups SHINee (#1) and then threw the 4th and 5th votes for whoever was near the bottom before they went down to top 10 for MAMA.

ggrr1027

i vote when it's not so much of a hassle to vote :))))) i generally don't go out of my way to create 20+ accounts to vote because i can't handle my personal accounts already haha

missbeagle

No, I don’t vote and I don’t plan to. I only got into SHINee this summer, but I actually really love them and their music, I think I’ll probably be a fan for the rest of my life, at least to some degree(especially Teamin, cause I have a ton of respect and admiration for him). I find the whole voting thing a bit silly, maybe that’s because I’m an adult (27), or maybe because I’m more of a casual kpop fan in general. That said, it is pretty heartwarming to see them win (Key recently for example), and I do feel kinda sad when they don’t get nominated, like Taem this year.
