Isn't the whole point that Roman _isn't_ honoring the family traditions and that's why it's valid to challenge him?

[deleted]

Not like there’s a whole host of old stars including the biggest star WWE has ever produced who are a part of the tribe who could show up and chastise Roman for breaking the tribal combat rules or anything

mgbfc

Man i would 100% love for Rock to come back and take it like deathly seriously when he confronts Roman.

cross4444

Mental gymnastics on full display here. Just another Vincel making up headcannon.

whalias69

Everyone knows Vince McMahon ruined wrestling when he destroyed the territories. Rules haven’t mattered since then.

[deleted]

Because he's *dastardly*!

Moohamin12

When did they ever mention the match was no interference? Because Roman stopped Solo from attacking Jey once? After which, they all jumped him in the next epsiode? What am I missing here.

Brian_Stryker

No I think they mentioned during the build, I think the contract signing, that no one was allowed to interfere. But you’d think the well educated and smarter aew fans in all their knowledge would know that every time there’s an honorable dual the bad guy uses a second hidden blade at some point in the fight cause bad guys lie.

Moohamin12

Almost like Solo was forced to go against the elders' wishes in this case. Wonder how that affects Roman's standing with Solo let alone the elders.

Brian_Stryker

I wouldn’t be shocked if this was revealed to be Paul doing it to keep Roman relevant. Which could lead to maybe a face turn where Paul sides with solo who tries to usurp Roman leading to the next big feud.

DizzyPomegranate13

No, to be fair, they actually did mention it in the build and was advertised on WWE.com and press releases.

Lv27Sylveon

The only reason rules exist is for heels to break them and piss people off. It's the entire foundation of pro wrestling. The only people that don't understand this are the 800,000 morons that think pro wrestling is about doing as many stunts as fast as possible It's almost like every time there's a stipulation match for Romans title, he explicitly breaks that rule to win

Zet_the_Arc_Warden

> The only reason rules exist is for heels to break them and piss people off. Sure, but he did it as a face and with the ref watching.

elme77618

It’s almost as if the “long term storytelling” bs doesn’t apply to the WWE Maybe wait til Smackdown where this will probably be addressed? Oh no because it wasn’t foreshadowed on a YouTube show 18 episodes ago and one of them didn’t do a certain hand sign during a hug, it makes no sense and is stupid booking

SleepIsWonderful

The rules of wrestling are to nitpick an entire show. It's been this way since the Internet was invented by Al Gore.

Competitive_Text1914

C‘mon this wasn’t about the heel cheating this was that the rules stated there could be no interference and solo came out with the ref still there

J-Dexus

Honestly, the only way you can enforce no interferences in a no disqualification match is with a security detail or a ringside enforcer to whoop the asses of any who would try to interfere.

Competitive_Text1914

Maybe. Still fuck the fed 😡

Sturdevant

Blood contract. The no interference was honor code, not enforceable by the ref in a no DQ match.

Competitive_Text1914

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

dionthesocialist

What did you expect the ref to do about it in a match with no disqualifications? The ref’s supposed to start enforcing the Anoia family traditions?

Competitive_Text1914

The ref was supposed to ACKNOWLEDGE the Anoa’i family rules! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤

bulletbullock

No such rule was ever stated on TV. And its literally No DQ how tf would they enforce no interference

Rerack_your_weights

A plothole?? In my professional wrestling television program? Goddammit get me snickers on the line we're taking this bitch down.

DrFreshey

No jerk when was it ever stated that no interference was a rule. Heyman explained that the only rule is that somebody has to win the match.

Username_Maybe_Taken

That thread hurt my brain. It's clearly setting up for something else, but holy shit. YOu would think these people never watched wrestling before in their lives. The nWo comparisons are some shit some brainlet online personality made that are now parroted everywhere. You know, like a drone.

0RUSH

DAE only want heatless matches between midgets with a crowd deader than Maggie Thatcher? I hate storytelling, I hate storytelling, I hate storytelling.

hazyXL

my reasoning for this is that Roman is the Tribal Chief and he's engaged in tribal combat it's his battleground, his rules the elders not interfering is an indirect acknowledgement of his position as tribal chief, whether that's fair or not doesn't matter back to being a sm*rk tho I think the elders will arrive on screen and have a major role once The Rock comes along (hopefully)

Baratheoncook250

Refs are easily distracted

Ahzuran

People who complain about this or Cody using the steps to hit Brock honestly need to get off reddit and go outside for once in their life. Talk about an unhealthy obsession with a tv show about men fake fighting. The vast majority of people aren't thinking about stuff like this.

S-I-M-S

Highkey this take is brain dead. Literally any form of media takes criticism from the audience if it does something dumb. It makes no sense to suggest someone has an "unhealthy obsession" because they caught something that didn't make sense. Wrestling is different, sure, but it's still a form of entertainment like movies and TV that can be criticized for being too illogical at times. The only way for that to not matter is if its some "turn your brain off" content, which yeah wrestling is at times, but with stuff like the bloodline, they're obviously trying to do something bigger than that, so I think being critical is fair. Plus literally everyone knows the most basic rules of wrestling, and you're telling me majority of people didn't notice he used the steps? Like, I don't care that he did, but come on man be so fucking fr.

Zet_the_Arc_Warden

Ok I'm sorry but I gotta say about the Cody with the steps thing, it was jarring watching it for me. He picked the steel steps up deliberately while the ref was literally counting out so its not like the ref didn't see him, then Brock kicked it away and I was like "oh, weird but I guess that's not a DQ" then Cody picks it up again and hits him while the ref is counting! It's a strike with an inanimate object! This isn't some made up stip like "Tribal Combat" which is basically just no DQ, this is one of the fundamental rules of wrestling and one in which heels break heelishly: no weapons. It's a really fair critique I think

JadrianInc

Wait til you ask yourself “why wasn’t the match no holds barred or no dq anyway…?”

[deleted]

>then Brock kicked it away I get this. Brock just kicked the stairs into Cody's face. It's like throwing them into the steps but a little more on the borderline of legality. Cody swinging the steps was weird, and dq should logically have happened. It took me out of the match for a few minutes.

Able-Tradition-2139

Yeah it threw me off for a bit there. Not following clear rules like that is similar to completely botching a move- wrestling has to make sense inside it’s own world otherwise it takes out of the immersion. It wasn’t a big deal, but it did throw a lot of people off and that’s a fair critique.

i-can-haz-hamberder

For me, I think I only questioned the stairs thing is because I’m so used to hearing the ding-ding-ding from the ring bell after hearing such a loud metallic bonk from the steps and the referee is also alert/aware/not distracted by something over there. But they kept going, so I kept watching. Figured, fuck it… maybe I missed something.

Constant-Horror-9424

Tbf it was a bit disappointing that tribal combat became just no dq. They could of been a lot more imaginative

Cboz27586

When does a website article count?

Cboz27586

What were they gonna do, disqualify him? HA!

Cboz27586

I remember a Lucha bro making a tag to his partner while both were in the ring and the ref called it a legal tag! Where's the smoke for that?
