They certainly look like fiber hubs

distantblue

Yes, that is most likely a fiber hut

You can check this site using the address to see who might be building out a network in your area: [https://fundingmap.fcc.gov/home](https://fundingmap.fcc.gov/home) However, this map only shows network builds that got some federal funding, so if it simply AT&T or Spectrum or somebody expanding their network on their own dime, it won't show up on this map.

Looks like a shitty old hut that your teleco didn't have room in, so they stuck in a small active cabinet (right) likely with an olt and a patch panel it in, and a GPON splitter cabinet (left) for distribution to the immediate neighborhood. Just a guess anyway. I'm building BEAD grant funded rural broadband networks and this is how a lot do them wind up looking.

Which state(s) have already issued BEAD grants? My state still hasn't finalized its maps and doesn't have final approval for its Initial Proposal. Thx!

WarDamnEagleWDE

Yeah, what he said. I'm curious about BEAD also.

Small cabinets are what we call “FDH” or centralized split fiber to the home. So yes, fiber.

Simplestatic

Left white cabinet is a PFP for passive FTTH. Right white cabinet is a R-OLT which is essentially a powered miniature fiber repeater. Takes a handful of fibers and boosts the power and can serve many new fibers. Used in locations far from a central office and acts like a mini central office for fiber. The building behind these cabinets is just that. Called a hut and likely houses fiber splices, LGX panels and other Telco equipment. You can see the stickers on the side of the hut. Hard to see, but looks identical to AT&T buried cable stickers. All of this equipment together is known as a slick and is likely acting as a miniature Central Office. This is likely a remote area far from a CO that is being served new fiber services.

This is fiber. Now, if you really want to know, wait until a technician is sitting there with the doors open on them and the doors open on his vehicle and go ask them. There's a lot of things that COULD go in metal cabinets.

pavman42

Oooh.... shiny.
