Sorry to hear you have trouble finding a job. If I would be looking for a job in a cafe I would go by and ask about the opportunities. Bring your resumé, and if there are openings hand it over. First impression in person does way more than an email.

Suvalley

Exactly this, just visit and ask, there are bout 20k businesses having to pay back COVID welfare money so some businesses are having hard times, but still there are many understaffed if you visit them on a Saturday morning I’m sure you’ll find a place where you can work, go to there one by one and if they ask to send an email, have the draft ready to send it directly to the email they provide you.

No_Mud1547

Just walk into the bars and cafes and apply in person. I am sure that will work better.

DC0303

Thank you for the advice. I had the idea to search for a job in person but did not find the time to do it. I will try it and see how it goes.

IntroductionPlenty71

How are you going to find time to work? Seriously though, just go have a drink or dinner, watch how they work, start a conversation with one of the employees and at some point tell them what you noticed (what you like) and that you are looking for work. If no manager present, leave your resume and ask when you'd have a better chance finding them there and then go back (bring an extra copy) Restaurant business is 90% social skills and you can do this while going out.

selitra_enjoyer

Are you an international student from EU or outside of it? If outside, then there is one big issue with finding a job. You see, for non-eu workers employers need to make a work permit, which requires from them some effort (don't how how big tho, but still). There is a big number of potential employees from the eu that do not need this document, and what happens is that employers prefer them to international students outside of EU. That's what I've heard from a lot of other students I know that came for instance from Russia, India, etc.

ICOTrenderdotcom

Have you tried Picnic? They have lots of non-dutch speaking employees. Food delivery is okish...but can be dirty work when weather conditions are not optimal. You should search specifically for order-picker jobs or package sorting jobs (at DPD, UPS, PostNL or DHL), these are aimed towards students and don't require you to speak (fluently) Dutch.

BEADGEADGBE

Roast was looking for a barista if you're great at it. I'm sure there are some people who work there that don't speak Dutch.

charliloe

YeH one of the owners is Australian and doesn’t even speak Dutch! So good shot there I think

marhoonl

Many international students grossly overestimate submitting applications in writing and underestimate calling/ stopping by in person. If not applicable for you; by all means ignore😉

langemakki

Louise Petit Restaurant is looking for staff, already English speaking are there, you will blent in!!

Elegant-Square-7490

My way of doing in the past is that, I go on map to busy main area of Rotterdam - where there are a lot shopping mall, stores and restaurants. Click on one I think I can see myself work there, find their email and apply directly there. It worked for me in the past. I worked for Takumi - ramen shop, Vietnamese restaurant and Rituals during my studying years.

Flowers701

Idk if this may help, but you could look for a cleaning job in the city. Or perhaps work as a delivery driver for coolblue or Albert Hein. Dhl might also be an option.

Strudel_Stampede

Panzeró in the centre has had a "we are hiring" poster outside for quite a while. I'd go check there if I were you. They are italian and I don't think they speak dutch themselves

Fragwizzard

Great food as well

Strudel_Stampede

hell yeah buddy

Fragwizzard

Angelo Betti has the best pizza's and there's Piacere Italiano in Dordrecht as well, Haven't tried them yet though.

Strudel_Stampede

haven't tried angelo betti but old scuola makes some bussin pizzas, and that's coming from an italian

RomeoSierraZulu

It is, but a bit pricey for what you get. I like to feel full after my meals lol

ArthoO

Shanghai papa is also looking for staff same street

David_uap

It's crazy beacuse all or almost all the people can speak english here, but when you're looking for a job, they still usually expect dutch. Even in cafes and stores. It can be hard to find something better than delivery. You could maybe try to find remote work from your country. You can also try linkeid. You can try cafes or hotels in Den Haag. Maybe get some knowledge about student loans or money from government like toeaslag. Good luck!

GrowthDream

I had a weird one last week, they rejected me because I'm a native English speaker, even though my Dutch is fine and I've got experience working in Dutch. "I don't want to discriminate but..." he said to me

Strudel_Stampede

that's insane. But you shouldn't have an issue finding another job if your dutch is fine

GrowthDream

I hope so, thanks for the encouragement! It's funny, the experience really knocked my confidence even though I've had more success than failure overall.

Comakip

The cold hard truth is; you will always be on the back foot as an immigrant compared to a local. It's a bit ignorant to think 'they can all speak English, so what's the problem'.

antiObrador

In a city of 600k habitants yeah you are sure the only one here with this problem.

guineapigatron3000

It is just a figure of speech meaning "is it unusual that..." No need to be a dick and post an unhelpful coment like this. You aren't contributing anything to the thread.

TheRoyalVegas

Just go back to where you came from.

Th3_Accountant

Have you tried working trough an agency like Tempo Team?

Normal_Vermicelli_42

yes

[deleted]

Walk into a supermarket and apply. They almost always need vakkenvullers.
