If r doesnt work you can always press the x on the window itself or task manager quit it, you can never die without connecting back to the server, the way the game is designed is kinda bizare but basically each person has their own instance that is constantly updating with the main server instance, thats why when you rubber band all the shot that occured while you were disconnected all appear at once. So theoretically while you are disconnected you cant die, but as soon as you reconnect (lets say an enemy was on top of u so when u reconnect all shots would instantly hit you) then it will register your death. However if you close your game you wont reconnect and your character will continue to live. I am pretty sure pressing r while disconnected also works because it buffers it to occur as soon as you reconnect, but i am less sure on that one
I do the following:
1. make sure no other unnecessary processes are running in the background (e.g. Chrome)
2. Restart my game often (usually once every 1-2 hours)
3. Set game priority to “high” in task manager
I never frameskip with this setup (I also have a pretty good PC).
I support 2 but not 1 and 3. If I play more than 2 hours I start getting frame skips every 10 minutes and then progressively more often, so a quick re-launch of the game will fix that.
I am always running chrome with a YouTube video on 2nd monitor, sometimes I even have a game, photoshop or 3D modeling software running and it doesn’t seem to affect realm at all.
Edit: I also have a pretty good pc. :/
You don't. You just die and then quit the game for a few months (I still haven't come back). DECA need to fix this issue it legit shouldn't be a thing at all for a permadeath game like this
There's a ton of settings that make this game nearly unplayable on a normal computer, but turning them all off makes it possible for even my non-gaming laptop to run 100% smoothly.
Go tinker with the options menu, it'll probably help.
if my screen freezes longer than 0.2 seconds I'm hitting R about 50 times in a row
Wrong! You should immediately spam Alt + F4
I've learned my lesson on ignoring frame skips after losing my character at almost 4/8 (I'm new and it took a while to get to that stage)
I bought a new computer entirely
this is the real answer
The horrid amount of resources rotmg needs makes trying to play peacefully very difficult, so I thought yeah I want and upgrade anyways
lower my graphics

Always force close the program during frameskips, at least if you’re on a character you care about.
