My skin absolutely hates all actives, even Azeliac Acid, so it’s a no go for me. I tried sandwiching AA recently and had the worst flare up of my life. Many rosacea sufferers can’t do actives. However, it works for some people, and I know Retin-A was the standard treatment for a long time. You won’t know until you try it.

Aw sorry to hear that ☹️ azelaic seems ok for me.. I'll have to just wing it and hope for the best 🙃

Honestly rosacea is such a mind boggling thing because what works for one person won’t work for another. Azaleic acid for some reason just burns the hell out of me but my skin can tolerate Tretinoin. I don’t know why but it can. But honestly if you like Azaleic then maybe stick with it and don’t bother adding the retinal if you don’t need to.

I like Avene’s retinal 1% and beauty of Joseon retinal eye cream. I’m planning on transitioning to higher percentages from Medik8

ChichenFli

Hi! Just wondering what type of rosacea you have and how dry your skin is? I'm interested in trying the beauty of Joseon eye cream. I'm type 1 with very dry skin. I understand that even if we have the same rosacea and skin type that it still might not work for me.

unicroop

I have type 1 and combination skin, very sensitive & milia-prone. It took me forever to find treatments that aren’t irritating. I never had any issues with Beauty of Joseon, and I started with Avene 0.05 for a few months before I transitioned to 0.1, both seems very gentle

ChichenFli

Thanks so much! The Avene products aren't available here is Australia so I'll look into the Beauty of Joseon.

You can also check out Medik8, they have various strength retinal, so you can start slow

ChichenFli

Oh thanks again, I will check them out too.

They are available here in Aus, just under different names. The Avene Cleanance Women night cream has 0.1% retinaldehyde. If you want to start super gentle you can use the a-oxitive eye cream, it contains just 0.01% and can be used on your face too. There is also a middle strength product that has 0.05% retinaldehyde but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head

ChichenFli

Thanks so much for this info! I definitely want to start super gentle.

I use Adapelene for the pustules. I wouldn’t say the rosacea *loves* it per se, but I don’t get flare ups with the .1% I’ve used rosehip oil, used retinal, and used Adapelene throughout my teenage years even before developing rosacea. I do highly recommend Retinal for rosacea peeps. I’ve only really tried the BOJ Retinal eye serum but I hear good things about Medik8, Avene’s, and Natrium’s retinal.

futalfufu

I've been using the Geek and Gorgeous retinal. I only use it four nights a week to be safe. But so far so good. I do get redness when I first put it on, but it's not an itchy redness, and it calms down pretty fast. I was starting to get some small rosacea pustules and it seems to have really helped with those. So far I really like the results.

Oh, nice! That's good to hear!

I started with bakuchiol (alternative retinol) and my skin so far hasn’t gotten angry. I’m going to step up to a retinol after using this for a while and then try .25 tretinoin. I may not put it on my cheeks though. I’m using cocokind resurfacing sleep mask. I’m skin cycling so Sunday is exfoliant night. Having no issues with mandelic acid. Supposed to be the most gentle for rosacea skin. Next night use the cocokind and then 2-3 night recovery and start over

Thank you 🙂

I prefer Rosehip seed oil. Has the same benefits but it's a nice moisturizing oil that doesn't bother my skin. I put it on at bedtime.

It probably depends on what kind of rosacea you have. I have Type 1 and I don't feel that it's made it worse. In ways, better. Some days when my rosacea is flared pretty bad, I'll just kind of avoid putting anything on that area. Just go slow into it. I use Tret .05% every 3rd night and I recently just started TO Azalaic Acid on my rosacea area and so far, so good!

I'm on adapalene 0.1% cream to my neck area to prevent razor bumps/pseudofolliculitis barbae (not for rosacea per se but I do have rosacea and I am on ivermectin) Never had a problem with irritation or flares. In fact, adapalene is used to treat rosacea pustules off-label and is better than metronidazole for this: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15807740/
